Nocturne of Recollection is a Japan-only radio drama taking place shortly after the events of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It was released on CD in March 2010. Chapter 1 has been translated by Krizy and can be found in the Castlevania Wikia.

Dialogue between Alexis and Cyril (2 vampire hunters)
Cyril, I’m sure it’s in this town.
Cyril: You’re right. Look! The colour of the potion has changed.
Alexis: The red colour looks ominous… looks like the vampire is indeed in this town. Is it really just the two of us in doing this?
Cyril: If you’re scared, let’s go back.
Alexis: Hmmph, I’m not scared. In fact it’s scary if I let you go alone.
Cyril: Alexis, I’m not the one who has a problem with this.
Alexis: Alright! I heard that your father has entrusted the Belmont clan to attack the vampires.
Cyril: haha, hmmph, those folks don’t know the details, my father must be out of his mind.
Alexis: That’s right, and I also heard rumours that the vampire hunter Richter is thinking of joining Dracula!

Maria: Really? OK, I’ll get some! Haha, won’t Alucard be pleased? (Imagines Alucard saying: ‘this isn’t necessary’.) Sigh, we’ve been living together for a year, I wish Alucard would confide in me….forget it, no use getting upset over this. The sun is setting, I have to go to the post office, better be going soon.
Maria to postman: Hi! Do I have mail?
Postman: Yes, don’t know when it was delivered. Here it is!
Maria: Hmm? It’s from Richter. I’ve received an emergency call from him earlier on, I wonder what’s happened?
Postman: Is that from your boyfriend? Haha, the mails are always from that same person.
The letter from Richter says:
“I hope all is well, Maria. I don’t have time to explain in detail about the emergency situation over here. I have been hired to hunt down a vampire.
Maria (reading the letter): A vampire?!
“(continued) It is still too early to say much, but ever since that incident about the teenage girl being killed by a vampire, similar events have been occurring in your town. My client’s daughter has also met the same fate. It’s not that I’m suspecting Alucard, it’s just that such incidents have been happening so frequently…we can’t rule out the possibility that he is unable to curb his instincts. Please contact me if anything strange happens near Alucard.” (end of letter)”
Maria: Alucard…no, that’s not possible! Why would he attack the humans…. But, if it’s not him, it means that there is another vampire prowling the town. I have to let Alucard know about this!
Maria: I sense something evil!
Alexis: Hey! Cyril!
Cyril: I’m very sure that it’s nearby. Alexis!
Maria: Who are you?
Cyril: I should ask you that. What are you doing in this deserted place?
Alexis: Better get away from here as soon as you can. It seems like the creature of the night has appeared.
Cyril: Argh! Damn! The demon-killing potion (?) has stopped reacting.
Alexis: It must have sensed our presence, and escaped.

Cyril: We’re vampire hunters.

Maria: So you’re the one who has been attacking the humans in this town.
Magnus: Hmmph! Why would Magnus the incubus suck blood..what rubbish!
Maria: Incubus?
Magnus: Humans are foolish and ugly. You humans merely exist for us to kill for amusement. It isn’t really necessary to drink your blood.
Maria: Enough talk.
Magnus: So this is the one who can control the four celestial beasts?
Maria: Pretty smart observation, but I have no time for that.
Magnus: Oh? Hahaha, don’t tell me Adrian has been subdued by this woman?
Maria: Adrian?
Magnus: Adrian Fahrenheit Tepes. I know you’d rather call him Alucard.
Maria: You know Alucard?
Magnus: Know? He betrayed his own father Dracula, if only I could use these claws to rend him limb from limb and rip out his innards…hahaha…wouldn’t that be fun.
Maria: !
Magnus: Haha, would you fight me to protect Alucard? How pathetic is this thing called human love.
Maria: How dare you!

I've only seen a summary of the whole drama and the first chapter fully translated, so as far as I know no one has translated the radio drama fully.
Thanks for taking the time to translate chapter 2! I've been dying to see a fully translated copy of the radio drama, so if you have the time, I'd like to read more. :)

Scene 1

Chapter 3, Scene 2
Alexis: Is it here, Cyril?
Cyril: look, the potion is reacting again!
Alexis: It’s red…it seems…
Cyril: Looks like this is the vampire’s lair.
Alexis: I say, Cyril, it’s late now, let’s wait till dawn when the vampires are weak.
Cyril: You worry too much! This potion will protect us against any demon. Let’s go! Hey wait for me!
Werewolf: !!
Cyril: It’s fast…Alexis.
Alexis: It’s a werewolf. Be careful, Cyril.
Cyril: Rest assured, this werewolf is too easy for us vampire hunters. Come on! 3, 2…be destroyed by the absolute zero!
Werewolf: !!

(Enter Richter)

Richter: Vampire hunters? How amusing.

Yeah I know. Apparently she says she's from the Belmont lineage or something... I'm a bit puzzled by this too.

both DXC and Judgment state that Maria is related to the Belmont clan by blood. a distant cousin of sorts. Judgment's manual says "She is a distant relative of the Belmonts."

Yeah I don't think Maria's related to Annette. Richter hadn't met Maria before Rondo so if she was Annette's sister that'd be a bit uh.

Scene 1
Cyril: Richter Belmont!
Richter: Cyril, are you surprised to see me? Is there something going on?
Cyril: Alexis has disappeared!
Richter: Disappeared?
Cyril: Last night, a black winged demon invaded my dream and told me if I want to save Alexis, I have to go to the chapel outside town. When I awoke, Alexis was gone.
Richter: What did you say?! Black wings? Magnus, the incubus!
Cyril: Wait! Bring me along!
Richter: You’ll only get in the way. Go wait at home. I’ll think of something.
Cyril: I can’t! Alexis is an important friend to me! I can't abandon my friend!

Dunno if you guys have watched the movie Interview with the Vampire, or read Anne Rice's novels, but the influences are obvious. Especially considering that Interview has been adapted into manga.
Magnus is one of Rice's vampire characters. He sired the infamous Lestat -a blond, curly-haired, beautifully androgynous, aristocratic vampire, who happens to be bisexual.
Anyway...if anything, I think this should be made into an Anime. It would sound horrible in English.

From what it seems to me, the target audience is girls who masturbate to Japanese game/anime/manga characters. Konami really needs to do some kind of census thing and discover who the Castlevania fanbase is, because the reality of the situation is just that there aren't enough of those types of people to make doing something like this worthwhile. Therefore, it just makes most fans go, "Uuuuuhhhhh............" and then another opportunity to do something truly interesting and worthwhile in Castlevania is foregone in favor of some kind of drivel.

Castlevania seems to make weird decisions when lending itself to derivative works. Stuff like the Belmont Legacy and that canceled Castlevania III adaption were polar opposites from what was currently the direction that the game took. I mean, just compare Warren Ellis' goat abuse and Portrait's slap slap kiss interaction between the two lead characters. Can you imagine that being part of the same series? :-X

I think the focus of this radio drama is on Alucard's inner struggle to overcome his other vampire half & his bloodlust - which is more of a spiritual/ mental battle. In terms of physical combat, Magnus probably knows he isn't a match for Alucard, but his aim was to tempt Alucard into succumbing to the dark side through his magic and his words. Moreover, SotN introduced him as an enigmatic centuries-old dhampir... don't we want to find out about his sordid past? :P

at the time Konami was trying out their new internet radio thing, so they had to take a stab of making a Castlevania story with this venue. i love audio drama and wish more US companies would dare to do something like it with our own favorite franchises. in order to hear Star Trek or DC Superhero audio theater, I have to listen to fan made stuff or "really" old stuff.

Yes you're right..it's just that they easily could have optimized it with a ayami kojima manga..or perhaps a short, but well made anime, or maybe just a few 2D scenes representing this story..voices only makes it stressful and sort of lame(don't get me wrong, I absolutely prefer japanese voice acting!), if they only could put more priority on it..

Sounds interesting. I've always wanted to see if anything happens after DoS. I do have one question though. One of the characters wields the holy whip and is Julius's apprentice, but it says nothing about whether he is a Belmont or not. If he isn't, how can he wield the whip unless we go back to the PoR shit of how a non-Belmont can wield the whip's power if they give up some of their life?
Anyway, I look forward to being able to reading an English translation of it.

According to the Castlevania wiki (http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Curtis_Lang), it's just another whip that's less powerful than the Vampire Killer. Some theories on it's origins could be that it's the same whip Soleiyu uses against his father in BR, the "Hunter's Whip" Morris passed down to Nathan (remember that Hugh seemed to respect the power of the whip rather than Nathan himself), one of the many whips Jonathan wielded, etc.

No prob :) This radio drama deserves more love (though it's quite corny at some parts)! Reading all this text really doesn't do justice to the awesome voice-acting, music and all....

I must confess I like the story better now when being able to follow the japanese voices. I'm just not sure if I prefer Alucard showing a side of "empathy"..I believe he said he didn't literally "love"human beings, but neither did he seek to revenge against them(in sotn).
Perhaps the story tells us that Maria has turned over his cold, empty mind with her compassion and love to him..wonder what will happen when/if Maria eventually dies, since she's human..will Alucard return to eternal slumber once again? will more servants of Dracula take the chance to convert him into darkness? hope that Konami will evolve this in the future games!
man I wanted to hear the original voice of the Imp..this one sounded so childish!

This whole thing is rather corny ;D And Maria's supremely annoying. Alucard doesn't do much here except angst, and struggle...also at one point I really wondered if he was gay with Lyudmil, lol.

Honestly, I'd totally prefer that. Maria's always bugged me, and the radio drama does her no favors. I know I might be in the minority by not liking that pairing, but man. I just don't get it D:

when i listen to the radio drama, i can't help but picture Rondo of Blood Maria, rather than SotN Maria or the Maria art that comes with the drama. i guess she's more true to character that way? i guess i'll need to listen to the original Japanese sotn voices for her to see if she still talks that way in the game, even though she's a few years older.

I have played sotn with japanese voices(MUCH better!).I don't see any problem with Maria's voice acting...that loud feminine voice is very common in anime media, so it's nothing notable really..

Haha, well now I feel less bad for thinking that myself! I also really appreciate a respectful difference of opinion :) It's so much more refreshing than the flaming you expect when you voice strong opinions about a well-established pairing XD

Maybe like what Reinhart77 says that's her way of flirting. What I don't get is that she begins by questioning his motives and then after barely a few minutes of interaction, she trusts him enough to follow him home. Well I guess the Castlevania team has never paid much attention to storyline, which is a pity IMO.

LOL! And then, in the radio drama, despite Alucard telling her explicitly that:
1) Her cooking sucks
2) She's going to be a burden to him (although that was for her own good)
3) He did drink the blood of humans before
...she still insists on hanging around. I understand her intentions are to help him retain his humanity, which is really noble and all, but I find it strange that she would abandon all her folks to live with a 400-year-old man she's not even engaged to. The day-to-day living I'm still finding it hard to picture.
Hmm I can't recall what Gackt's talking voice sounds like, lol.
