Hey guys, Jorge from www.relyonhorror.com (http://www.relyonhorror.com). Here's an article I just finished writing and I want to spread it to the castlevania community. Tell me what you guys think!

Yes, I agree with you. They should make a remake of this awesome game, like DXC. Dracula's Curse has a great storyline, great replay value, fantastic music...only problem is it's too difficult to clear.
-
No please. No remakes please. Remakes are something we already have. We already have a great game. I prefer DIFFERENT great game not the same with improved graphics.
-
Yeah, what we really want is CV V, like Donkey kong Country Returns or NSMB, in HD with awesome graphics and improved gameplay ;D
I prefer a whole new game, remakes are unnecessary
-
^ great idea, by the way. If developers really don't have some new story...Castlevania V would be just epic.) Belmont goes to castle and kills Dracula.))
-
I think after playing Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth, I'm all for remakes in the sense that they're full reworkings of the weaker titles in the franchise. So for me, that means Simon's Quest, Harmony of Dissonance, and Portrait of Ruin would be perfect contenders.
And out of all of them, SQ has age as a major factor for it's lackluster quality, so I'm all for a fully unique countryside to visit with a more fleshed out game world.
-
Total remake, yes. Totally.
Simple port w/ cool graphics, no.
-
Yes because then we'll get more topics like "which do u like better CVIII or the remake" and "which had better music"
most of which will prefer the original regardless
-
Wii, Virtual Console
OK!
-
Interesting idea, but i'd prefer a completely new CV. I rather leave that beautiful game alone without remakes or modifications, the game is a flawless classic, and I wouldn't like to see it reformed.
-
Thanks for the responses guys. I agree with remaking the more obscure titles in the franchise. But I just feel like Iga's love for Dracula's Curse will eventually spawn a remake of the game. I also wrote an article talking about a potential Castlevania V since you guys brought that up, it's a form of petition and I'll be sending it to Konami with, hopefully, a good amount of responses from fans.

It's funny, because there people who bitches about PSP being a console full of remakes and ports and now, with everything that was announced for 3DS (most of them are remakes or ports) people want even more remakes and ports. It's Nintendo so, no problem at all... /rant
Anyway, I'm all for it, just make it on the same level as the original game and that's it. But make it a downloadable title on 3DSware, not a full-fledged game.
-
Castlevania 5 please, sprites would be nice but I'm not against 3D on a side scrolling plane either. I also fully approve seeing Super Castlevania IV controls as well.
-
Had Adventure ReBirth came out under the title "Castlevania V," would it have made any a difference?

It would be a huge disappointment in my opinion. I'm not saying that the game is bad, I really like it, but I want something more "ambitious" I think.
-
I'm all for a remake. I also like the idea of character specific levels. I once had an idea for games that tell the origin of characters like Sypha. For example, you would play as Sypha through her own story which would end with her being petrified by the cyclops. If a remake of CV3 comes out for the 3DS, such a game about Sypha could be DLC. The same could go for Grant and possibly Alucard.
-
If I wanted to see a remake of CV3 then it should be in the epicness of SCV4. And If Konami decides to do CV5 it should have all the epicness that made SCV4 so...Epic!

One thing is a certain: They need to do something on Castlevania's 25th anniversary.
-
This should've been a poll, methinks.
Also, yes it should be made. Lord knows I tried to do it. xD

What ever happened to that? From the videos of gameplay called walkabouts posted on youtube, it seemed to be coming along quite nicely and then nothing. It was looking like it would be a decent homebrew game too.

I can't find a programmer willing to continue with the current code. EVEN WITH THE OLD PROGRAMMER AS AN ADVISOR!
People look at the code and immediately want to make the damn thing from scratch all over (which I don't want to do), and don't even bother sending the original programmer an E-mail or anything.
-
There's somebody else on the net who's making their own CV3 remake and it looks well done too.. I don't know how far it's come, but it does look promising.

HELL YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
no but seriously YES they should....or why not do it as a a whole NES trilogy remake......... the storage of the cards should have heaps of room to compensate.

Hehe. This brings back memories.

I never did get around to playing CV3. A remake would be certainly nice, but it's not like an absolutely needed thing.

Same with me. I never had an NES and I refuse to play any games on computer emulators. I also think most of us who never had an NES as well as newbies to the franchise need to experience CV3. That is why I champion a remake of CV3.
-
True that. I don't want to play on an emulator, since it wouldn't feel the same as on the NES, you know? There's also no way that I'll going to shell out for a USB controller.
Vets of the series talk about CV3 being great, but I really haven't experienced it.
Something like Dracula X Cronicals would be nice.
-
Play it on Virtual Console on the Wii.

Maybe I'm just weird but I did get the chance to play it on my NES (before it broke :( ), and maybe I'm just weird but I thought it was easier with a keyboard... Also, the convenience of just using save states to save your place rather than writing done those passwords is nice. So it doesn't really matter if you emulate. And while its a good game, I don't think its great, I still feel that CV1 is the best the NES games :P
A remake would definitely be nice. It would be nice if it was actually just a new game focusing on using 4 different characters rather than just a graphically enhanced identical game like DXC. I think there are definitely some interesting things to be explored with this mechanic, and since most of us have all played CV3 anyway, it would be nice to have something new. Also newer fans who don't like Classicvanias will buy it. I fear that without something like SotN that DXC had, a lot of the newer "fans" wont bother buying it because of the difficulty. Its pathetic that there is still discussion at Gamefaqs about whether or not its worth buying the game for SotN (Its worth buying the damn game for Rondo!), and without something to bring casuals in it might bomb financially.
-
That's a good idea there Harrycombs. In the original game, once you met your ally you have a brief description, nothing more. If they made a remake then they could put more resources into the story and have special in-game cut-scenes for the characters in order to progress the story. Like the did in Rondo but maybe a little more so.

CV III has the possibility of having an awesome scenario. More dialogues, great story, and more than two character in your team.
-
I definitely want this remake, on NGP (PSP2) or 3DS. Just bring Ayami Kojima to do the art!!!
-
I'm fond of the OoE and the CotM artists, as well.
-
Artwork for Ecclesia was nice, but Ayami is exceptional and would love to see here do some new artwork for Dracula's Curse. I see her artwork as an essential part of the CV series. She pushes it to a higher level of quality.
-

Yea those 2 did a awesome job but in my honest opinion they simply can not compare to the artwork of Ayami.
-
I would prefer a remake of a game that kinda needs it (like the Gameboy ones, Simon's Quest, or Vampire Killer).
Alternatively, I'd double dip for a port of DXC on the 3DS, since I sold my PSP and don't plan on getting another one.

Her art for HD and DXC were pretty poor though...

hmm i disagree

I'd have Ayami do the art so long as her guys look like guys and not androgynous women-like people (unrealistic for that time period in Romania). The only person who can safely get away with that is Alucard since he was the first and we had no expectations back then. But I think that OoE's and CotM's art-styles were pretty good too. I liked the way Laura looked from OoE looked :o

Me, too. I loved the DXC artwork.

Like a hooker? :D
-
Im all for a graphical change. I'd love to see a 2.5D remake as long as the style veered more toward the original art style and was altered as little as possible.
-

The hookers you're into are incredibly overdressed and very well-decorated and ornate.
Either that, or you have no idea what actual hookers look like.
Just because a good-looking woman is showing a little cleavage it doesn't make her a hooker.
-
Like a hooker?
Her cleavage was an eye-drawer, but I was mainly talking about how her face looked. Very, very sensual. Almost as if she could see what you're thinking. I do find such qualities quite attractive in a woman.

And what about a more ARPG-oriented game (like LoS, CoD or LoI) with four characters fighting at the same time (look at the Kingdom Hearts series!), with equipments, level up, a better scenario leading to CoD, characters with special abilities (Grant clibing, Alucard bat flying, etc.)?
It could work.

yes, it could work, but who would we control (trevor, alucard, grant, or sypha)? or, they could go the same route as Secret of Mana in that while all the characters are present you only control one at a time while the others are controlled by AI, but you can cycle through the characters and control who you want.

That was the idea. You push one button, and you switch Trevor > Sypha > Grant > Alucard. Or you could change the order as you want in a menu.
-
Now, this may sound like a side note but it's important. I know because recently I showed the original Rondo to someone who knows only the newest CV, plus the very first.
You need the unity of the metroidvania formula nowadays, or it will look like a little gimmick game: think megaman and its separate stages. They can be the funniest, greatest stages full of secrets and interactivity... but will never compete with the awesome wholeness of being playing in the one big world of CV.
CV3 was incredible, I still remember buying it at the shop: having seen OOE (long plain stages like CV2), even the level design would be ok but the world must be one. And more than OOE's: imho we need a different engine which can handle everything without you ever crossing a screen border.

Theres a CV3 remake fan game out there floating around the net called 'Super Castlevania 3'. I've never played it, (I don't think its finished), but from the demo videos and playtests I've seen it appears to be a well made game.
I don't know the people who are making it and know nothing about it beyond that it exists and that videos of its mechanics in action are viewable on youtube.
-
With the 3DS you could use the D-Pad or Circle Pad as a 'quick change' button.
That would be cool. :D

It's probably Obreck's version. There is demo somewhere, i checked it, and it plays and looks very good, really.
-
Thats the one I'm meaning to say, Viper.
-
Where's the demo? I want to give it a try!

I wouldn't be upset if that happened, but I think the resources would be better spent on new and original projects.

Agreed entirely.
Though I do think that the 3DS would be a good platform to bring back CV3 if that's what they wanted to do.

Oh man, I am entirely with you there. Laura was hands-down one of the hottest women in recent Castlevania games. Those eyes just draw you in. I also think it was really sexy that, yeah she showed cleavage, but otherwise she was modestly -- even ornately -- dressed. When you have characters like the Succubus and Angela, it seems that they're trying too hard. I think the pinnacle of being attractive is knowing how much is too much, and how little is too little and being able to find the balance.
I think Shanoa could fit into this category too, but Laura struck me way more.

I'm wondering when we'll finally hear anything on Castlevania 3DS in general, I hope something happens at E3 this year. Still crossing my fingers for a traditional Castlevania instead of a Metroidvania.
