I bet every old-time Castlevania pondered about this at least once. The Japanese offical guide explains that this attack is actually supposed to be the sixth body part of Dracula that Simon's doesn't know about. Namely his fang(?).
The more you know~!

Thanks for the info. ;)

I actually never pondered it to be honest---but a fang makes more sense than a fingernail. I always thought it was strange that the nail was one of the body parts you had to find. A fang would've been much cooler.

I didn't even know Dracula could actually attack in Simon's Quest.

Neither did I. Man, its been a while since I've played u_u

@Nagumo-baby: thnx for the info nagumomo. but how can Juste locate the body parts if Simon destroyed them??

Oh yes, I see.. they ARE giant bloody fangs:

@but how can Juste locate the body parts if Simon destroyed them??
Seeing as how Dracula regenerates, it's likely that his body parts regenerate. Perhaps they arrive before he fully resurrects. Why they'd be scattered all over his castle in Harmony of Dissonance instead of in one spot is anyone's guess, though. I'm sure the reasoning behind it is that it makes for a better game : T

I guess you could say EVIL!Maxim dropped them. Also being a ninja, he put them in super secret places.
That fang thing in Simon's Quest is neat though. Pretty abstract but I guess it makes sense given the limitations, or at least probably reasoning to make for a better game.

By official Japanese guide do you mean the manual?
-
I always assumed that they were boomerang-shaped fireballs.

Cool, although I never notice what Dracula uses in Simon's quest because he just stands there getting hit.

By official Japanese guide do you mean the manual?
It's from a rare strategy guide called Friday Special - Dracula 2: Noroi no Fuuin.
Oh yes, I see.. they ARE giant bloody fangs:
I guess that would make sense for a guy who's ribs look like shields.

I paused the screen and looked at it with a magnifying glass.
It looks like a scythe but I think its a single large curved fang, probably about the size of a sword. In short, rather deadly, sharp, and fast flying. Simons final battle suddenly became a whole heck of a heap lot more epic.

Did you get a mental image of a super nerdy looking Rick Moranis type guy pausing the game's screen and looking at it with two giant coke-bottle glasses and two huge magnifying glasses attached to a helmet? Thats sorta the image I was going for.
