Simon: There is no steak... only stakes...
Flea man 1: Miiiiiister Belmont.
Simon: Agent Flea.
Flea man 2: In the flesh.
Simon cracks whip and prepares for battle.
No but seriously.
I wish to enlist the help of a skilled Programmer regarding a remix of Simon's Quest.
Upon play through of the game I've found that there are a number of errors and problems with the game, and honestly, I feel that the official release does not do the storyline justice. Its my opinion that a remake is in order and its my opinion that the game deserves it.
The remake would feature the following.
-Towns-person dialog that is meaningful to the game.
-Correct spelling.
-An enlargement of the cast of enemies.
-More gear
-All mansions have bosses and some would have sub bosses as well.
-Selectable difficulty: Normal, Hard, Expert
-Side quests that produce optional rewards and/or gear.
-2 status ailments, Poison, and Petrify.
-Clues that are meaningful.
-The inclusion of at least one more castle other than the final approach to dracula's keep.
-Armor other than Dracula's Rib.
While I cannot do the actual programming, I would be able to handle the sprites, music, level backgrounds, general storyline (which does not deviate heavily from the official storyline), all dialog of town people and storyline, all clue text, all side quests, and etc.
If I'm already working on something with you this does not constitute an abandoning, repeat does NOT constitute an abandoning of that project.
Its a plus if you speak an East European / Russo-Slavic language.
This is intended to be a fan game and no actual money will change hands. However, anyone working on this with me will have a creative voice as well and I would value their opinion and take it seriously. Anyone who works on this with me is intended to have their name (real or forum) in the credits so that its known who did what.
Finally, while its in my mind at least initially as an 8 bit game, I'm fine with making it any other number of bits if whomever should be working with me wishes or needs it to be some other number of bits.
While it naturally could not be a Castlevania remake, if we work well enough there is a chance I may call upon you to help with a game at a later time, this other game may well be intended for actual sale as well.

Well... it seemed like a good idea at the time. This doesn't mean I don't plan to still do it. It just means such a game already exists.
I'll take a look at it.
But this only proves my point. Simon's Quest had a good storyline and idea that could have gone a lot further than the original 8 bit game did.
Having looked at the videos I was sent to through the link, I do not view it as competition. I view it as a model to learn from and as work data that reflects the skill of the programmer.
Its my goal to make the absolute best possible remake I can and its my goal for it to be truly epic in scope of play.
The one major stumbling block I have is that I cannot program. I had already started working on this idea before I ever posted the ad, and I still hope to make the game if I can.
Not at all disregarding the fact that there is already a remake in existence, is there any chance of anyone helping me make this?

aside from the fan game mentioned above, there is also someone one this forum who wanted to do a CV2 remake as well. He pretty-much listed all the things you had mentioned in your post and we were throwing ideas his way too. I don't know if he's still here. It's been a while and I really want to see how his project is coming along. If you want to do your own CV2 remake then please, I'd be glad to play it.

As yet I hope for the graphics to be fairly close to what the 8 bit game's graphics were like. My plan is to use the Sprites from Simon's Quest, but I could make it work with stuff from Super Castlevania 4 too. I'm already working on something at the moment however and so this is just in the idea stages at the moment.

I remember there was a time when Castlevania fan games and hacks were all the rage. The ideas always sound cool on paper, and if you're lucky, you'll get the occasional Youtube video that resembles a coherent game, but from my experience, people rarely finish projects like this, because they're pretty daunting to do well. They often take years, and during that time, many of the people doing them move on to other things. If you can find someone willing to program, that would be really cool and surprising. Most people that can do that and who are doing non-profit games are likely off doing their own things and being their own bosses. That said, if you can pull something like this off, that would be awesome.
-
I wish you the best of luck with your project, and I hope you find a programmer who will help you out with your ideas.
EDIT: The entire thread has been cleaned up. Please respond only with constructive criticism.

I've figured out what music I'm going to use.
-
Can you give us some samples or the names of the tunes?

I've isolated what sprites I'm going to use.
-
Will it be a 16 bit remake like Castlevania Chronicles, or an 8 bit enhanced game?
Just curious.
-
Did you isolate a programmer?
-
I've sent some messages out to various people with a job request, yes, I'm waiting on them to answer me. If none of them answer me in time I'm going to get a game maker program and do it myself. And then redo it till Its to my satisfaction.
It could still go either way and could be 8 or 16 bit.

Don't say such overconfident things before you get into it though. Coding is a lot of hard work. (I'd know.)
You may think you'll keep trying until you get it right until you're stuck on the same piece of code for 2 weeks, then fold and settle for whatever you can get working. You could continue to redo and redo it until it's perfect though. In which case you are me, and it's been 2 years since your last public update.
A lot of people just dont have the mental capability for thinking in terms of code, sad but very true. Beware the world you're about to step into. Don't treat it like it'll go all according to plan if you're determined. You need the mentality to back it up. Prepare for months or years of research alone before you can do anything at all.
Oh and, don't think 1 programmer is all you'll need to make the game unless it's extremely simplistic or you are expecting to release 5 years from now.

I think you are thinking of AAA blockbuster games.
We are talking about an independent fan game here, which is relatively easier to create than say, Crysis 2.
Speaking from experience, it is damn hard to program a video game. It really is.
And truthfully, the reason why it takes forever for amateur developers like me to release a game is because we have other important things to do, like school or jobs.
What I am making right now could probably get finished within a month if I wasn't so busy with assignments and lectures. ;_;
I can't wait to go professional.

Whatever your intention was, your text here reads, to me at least, as something along the lines of 'You are a moron for even trying. Vote of zero confidence'.
I am aware of how hard coding is. You are talking to someone that stayed awake for three days continuously working on the same problem, neglecting to leave that room or bathe. Eventually the problem got fixed, but because of the circumstances I've mentioned, I don't remember how I fixed it. Note however that this was not a Video-game coding problem, though it was a coding problem.
I've set a goal, and whether it takes me five weeks or five years is all largely dependent upon how my life throws things at me. Regardless, I plan to work on it at least a little every day after I get my programing equipment set up inside my computer.
I might become enraged and have spontaneous combustion of OCD, but it is my plan to eventually make this game. And it is a plan I plan to stick to, unless the worst happens and both my hands get cut off, my computer dies, My bank gets struck by lightning and loses all my financial data, a plague sweeps through the area and all avaliable game testers come down with bloody pus-filled boils, and I'm hit by a truck and thrown 55 feet while on the way to the unemployment office after losing my job due to my hands being cut off.

Man, you always take everything so negatively.
I'm just telling you what to expect. Thoughts and words are one thing, but doing it is a completely other story.
-
Okay let me ask you something here.
You have a deadline, and there is absolutely no way you can finish it on time. Do you...
...Smoke some meth so you can stay awake for days and finish it...
...Call off all your plans with friends until further notice so you can finish it...
...Shut your whole house down and pretend like your not there, not checking mail, not answering any phones, and not leaving the house, till your done...
OR
...Shut your whole life down period and work on it till your finished...
OR...
...All of the above?
ALL of these are serious options to my mind when it comes to finishing what I start. I am OCD regarding goals and have a clinically discernable Obsessive-Compulsive complex with regards to setting goals and finishing them.
THAT is how serious I am about my goals.
-
Well, like I said; Thoughts and words are one thing, but doing it is a completely other story.
-
My point was not to down you or be annoying.
My point was simply to say that I'm willing to put my whole life and everything in it on a completely stop holding pattern if I have to to finish this game.
Understand me. I am not an incessantly negative person. However, I've spent much of my life surrounded by people who are desperate to keep me at their level and who have done 1 of 2 things, either...
...Thrown it in my face repeatedly when what I tried failed...
Or
...Gone out of their way to make -certain- I failed.

I expected a preview of the game by the time you posted this thread.
Also, understand your concerns for making this game but talking about doesn't mean you are making it.
