Dracula X
Bloodlines
Symphony of the Night
Circle of the Moon

Didn't beat the ps2 titles, vampire killer for msx, the psp title and all the shitty cv1 nes clones like dos, amiga etc.

All the rest yeah, as all characters.

Castlevania 2(i think, I can't actually remember this one)
Castlevania 4
Dracula XX
Rondo Remake
SotN
CotM
AoS
LoI
CoD

I could have beaten Dracula's Curse, but my nintendo cartridge kept frezing up after I beat the Gargoyle boss. Or rather, the Orb didn't load, so my time ran out and I die >.>

I'm on my way to beat the original Rondo of Blood. So I'm missing quite a bit here.

Chronicles, I didn't like so I never finished however.

That might be a little hard for me because I don't have a PSP.  I've only been a CV fan for about three years now.  It started with DoS, and then I went back trying to get my hands on the others.  By the time I started playing Castlevania, SotN was a bitch to find.  At the very soonest, I'll finally get a copy this summer, since I'll have my first job.

Castlevania 1, 2, 3, 4, LoI, CoD, SOTN, SNES Dracula X, RoB and remake, Chronicles

I don't have a DS (yet), so I'm really missing out some of the other great Castlevania titles.

I didn't play the N64 ones because I was too loyal to Sony only, now I'm wishing to play them all.

Then emulate it. :o

>_> <_<

I don't know much about things like that. I'm not even sure I know what emulating is.  I just play the games I can get my hands on.  Really, the only way I can think of to get SotN right now would be to get Xbox live, and like I've said, I don't have a job.  There's hardly any jobs around where I live for fifteen-year-olds unless I want to work as a clean up guy in a butcher shop.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
Title: Re: Castlevania's You've Beat
Post by: Long John Silver on November 10, 2007, 08:09:58 PM
Emulation's basically playing a game designed for one system on another one, usually one that was never intended for it. The PC is the best platform for emulating, seeing as it can emulate almost all systems, even ps2 and ds to an extent.

I doubt I can really show you how to do that here, since it involves downloading a cd image of the game as well as a psx bios and this forum disallows that.

...or just get a PsP and Dracula X Chronicles for Chrismahanukwanzika.

I would ask for DXC and a PSP for Christmas, but I'm already getting Guitar Hero III and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.  My birthday is in February though.  I'll try then.

I've beat them all w/out cheats well all except the turbo duo dracula x which I'll be picking up for the PSP tomorrow. :) I'm a castlevania nut, I can't put one down till I finish it, I've been known to not eat, sleep, and I've even called in sick at work before cuz I was so enthralled with the game. Everytime a new one comes out I always run to pick it up cuz I know it's gonna be good, well all except the n64 ones, but those were still sort of fun, even if the controls for the characters weren't so good and they were crazy easy.

Rondo I've gotten quite far into, but not beaten yet.

Is Rondo tough bro? I always heard it was one of the easier ones. :)

If he has an xbox or a 360 with live he can also purchase it from there, I think it's crazy cheap on live too.

As for the ones I haven't beaten, but own, they are:
Dracula's Curse(PC, that's why I can't beat it)

what's dif. about drac. 3 on the PC? I've only beat the nes and famicom versions, the doppleganger really gave me some trouble till I started using the switch trick, it takes awhile to pinpoint his weaknesses, I had to go in with a game genie (cheating device) and figure out the correct strategy without constantly switching out characters. I thought drac was tough but doable. You should be at an advantage with the pc version actually, you can save the state of the game where your stuck and keep reloading from that point until you do it. :)

Quote
Have beaten with savestates but will probably never do so without them because the game is so atrociously difficult:

2. Vampire Killer

Yeah it's pretty tough, I thought it was boring personally finding all the keys was retarded, I don't have the patience to finish that one, you have to memorize where all the keys are or you'll run out of time searching which is something I don't have the patience to do. I don't even count the MSX2 atrocity as a castlevania game. I consider the nes castlevania as the true castlevania 1 out of the tons of incarnations for the first one (haunted castle, nes castlevania, MSX vampire killer, etc.).

Well, my CD is scratched, so the music is screwed up, and that game had such awesome music, I can't even bear to play through it listen to such a disgrace towards Castlevania music. lol. Aside from that, I thought it was a really hard game, so the controls are awkward with PC and I can't stop dying!!! I would be SO musch easier for me if I would just buy the NES version, that way, I could use a controller which is a lot less awkward.

I've beaten...

Castlevania
Super Castlevania IV
Castlevania 64 and/or Legacy of Darkness
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Castlevania: Dracula X
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Yeah, I know... Never beaten Castlevania 2 or 3... I can't say I played much of either one, though. I really ought to, someday.

awwww man that sucks your disc is scratched I always loved the music in that one too, does the game allow you to use a joystick/pc controller? I know you can pick up ones that just plug into a usb port at like target for 10 bucks. :)

I see alot of people have put down that they beat dracula x, personally I always thought the last fight was insanely hard, I never passed it without infinite hearts, as it's so cheap. The pits in the dracula battle were the worst idea ever.

Yeah I would say that it's probably one of the harder games in the series to beat. And the pits do suck, but it makes it more of a challenge but I kind of like it that way

I agree, I like my games hard too, I just like straight up fights better than the enemy being able to use the environment to his advantage. :)

ahh I just figured out how to do it without infinite hearts, there's a secret passage you can go through an unlimited number of times in the final level I didn't know about where you can fight a bone snake thing and keep killing him over and over for lots of hearts and there's also a cross hidden in the candle next to him. I just beat it using item crushes on drac's final form to avoid getting thrown in the giant pit. :)

I object to CV64 being called "crazy easy." Duel Tower?

All you have to do though is go to that demon guy and buy a bunch of food and you'll never die though, letting you carry nine large meats made it too easy. And the bosses all have like no health especially dracula, and his first and second forms drop large meats too if you hit the fireballs he shoots out. I don't think I've ever seen the game over screen for that game. I don't know I guess if your new to castlevania games it might be pretty tough but compared to ones like the first one and three, I thought it was pretty much a walk in the park. :)

Just beat 3 again for the famicom, I prefer that version over the american one, it's more fun, there's no bats in the pendulum segment of the last level and dracula's third form shoots out almost like pellets instead of a big long continous laser beam. I like the music better too and how in the intro the church gets all involved and when it's armies fail, the pope finds trevor and asks him to kill dracula. The endings also make more sense and each different ending kind of fits together to form one.

Just beat Order of Shadows. It wasn't too bad for a cell phone game. Also in the process of playing 64 and I'm very surprised I like it as much as I do. Once I got used to the headache inducing graphics I really started to enjoy it.

So, this is the games I've beaten now:
Castlevania
Simon's Quest
Dracula's Curse
Adventure
Belmont's Revenge
Super Castlevania IV
Dracula XX
Bloodlines
Rondo of Blood
Symphony of the Night
Circle of the Moon
Harmony of Dissonance
Aria of Sorrow
Dawn of Sorrow
Portrait of Ruin
Lament of Innocence
Curse of Darkness
Castlevania X6800
Chronicles
Dracula X Chronicles
Order of Shadows

I'll go ahead and list mine too as I didn't know about the cell phone game, is it tough professorbeanburrito?

I've beat

1)Castlevania / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula(all incarnations beat the MSX one with a save state that started me at drac as I hate the whole key thing and have zero patience for that sort of thing)
2)Simon's Quest/Dracula II: The Accursed Seal
3)Legend of Demon/Evil Castle / Castlevania 3
4)Dracula XX
5)Dracula X: Nocturne in The Moonlight/Symphony of The Night
6)Legend of Dracula/Castlevania Adventure
7)Legend of Dracula II/Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
8)Castlevania Legends / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Dark Night Prelude
9)Vampire Killer/Castlevania Bloodlines
10)Castlevania N64/ Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Apocalypse
11)Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness/ Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Apocalypse The Legend of Cornell
12)Castlevania Chronicles / Castlevania Chronicle Demon/Evil Castle Dracula.
13)Super Castlevania 4/ Demon/Evil Castle Dracula
14)Castlevania: Circle of The Moon / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Circle of The Moon
15)Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance/Castlevania: Concerto of the Midnight Sun
16)Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow/Castlevania:Minuet of Dawn
17)Castlevania: Lament of Innocence/Castlevania
18)Castlevania: Curse of Darkness / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula:Curse of Darkness
19)Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Crucifix of The Blue Moon
20) Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Gallery of Labyrinth
21) Demon/Evil Castle Dracula X68000

And I'm currently working on Rondo in the dracula X chronicles.

No Order of Shadows isn't really tough. Every time you die they start you right back where you were and every time I did die I found it easier to kill whatever it was that killed me first. The first time I fought a minotaur I found it more difficult than Dracula

It's also not incredibly long, but a good length for a cell phone game.
If you have the time and a few extra bucks to blow you should play it. It's got a neat little story

^ Cool I'll give it a shot. :)

I just started playing POR on the hard level as Jonathan, I've never attempted hard with him and charlotte before jus Richter and the sisters, it's damn hard, way harder than with the other guys, the bosses ain't too bad once you get their patterns down they just take a few more hits but the levels are insane especially the parts where the medusa heads and bats infinitely come at you. Has anybody beat it on hard with level 1 set as the max level? I normally set it to 50 as it takes too much time to kill anything if you can't level up.

I beat the sisters mode on level 1 cap and died only once when I got accidentaly hit by the creature's explosion the first time I got the hard modes. Otherwise this mode is so stupidly easy and shallow even hard mode level -100 would be like easy. :o

Wow, yeah the sisters are easier to play with than Richter or Jonathan, were you referring to playing as the sisters when you said it was easy or everybody, cuz I've died a ton of times and  I'm stuck on the part where you fight Richter to unlock the whip. He takes so many damn hits it's crazy I've hit him like 50 times with my sarissa spear dealing out 57 damage each hit and he's still coming. :o

OK, just beat Harmony, all endings, all characters. Y'know, it's kinda scary how easy that game is. I only got it on Tuesday night and I beat the main mode yesterday morning, Thursday! and I just beat Maxim mode a few minutes ago, with 198.7%! 2-3 days to beat a Castlevania game, so unbelievable. That's gotta be a new record for me.

Yeah I beat harmony quick too, I only died one time at the part where you fight the simon wraiths. I got careless and didn't know they dealt out so much damage and had such good D. I just charged at one trying to hit him to death and he killed me. It's def one of the easier castlevania titles, the item crushes made it too easy, I've beat everybody without them, but if you use them the bosses are nothin'. And drac was crazy easy, alls I had to do was just duck on his second form and just whip the crap outta him. :)

Sisters mode. They really didn't try with this one. They could have made it so much better and keep this weird experimental gameplay for enemy modes at least, but no. :/

There's an even easier way. Use one invincibility potion and run behind Dracula during his second form. He will never turn around, so you practically won the fight.

Yeah it could have been so much better, you'd think they'd give it there all and really try to make it enthralling, seeing as how we probably won't see the sisters again unless they make another game that takes place in their lifetime.

whoa, I've never tried that, but that's just bad programming man, you'd think the programmers would have considered things like that when they programmed the boss, that sucks all the fun out if you can just teleport behind him and kick his ass. :P

just beat POR on hard with Jonathan and it was hard, drac wasn't so bad but those last few levels were pretty tough. Only thing I haven't done is finished nest of evil, I'm stuck on the room where you fight the two frankensteins, those bitches is tough, that's gonna take me awhile to pass.

Yeah I really doubt it. Very few of the secondary characters, especially if they were villains return in the next games, at most few are mentioned in the prologue or as a passing memory in the dialogue. Hell, past heroes get kicked down to secondary character status in the sequels most of the time (Trevor in cod, Eric in por, Richter+Maria in sotn etc) or sometimes even die (John).

Dos was so far the only one of the newer games where most of the heroes returned, but then again the time period between those two was so short it could be even considered as second half of aos.

(then we have direct sequels like cv1-2 and cva1-2 where the main hero isn't degraded to secondary character but whatever) :o

Yeah, I got behind him in Maxim mode. Then I used his super, multi-Maxim attack thingy (as I call it). And yeah, I died on the Simon Wraiths too.

tried vs again, I just can't beat that game, I've tried everything everybodies said death is just unbeatable, I might try again someday, but I just can't pass death. Not giving you that 4th hit was the worst idea ever, especially since you whip a bit faster and death seems to be harder than the nes one. I don't know every other boss I can find some way to own them, death is just unpassable though, the psyths have no pattern in the vs one it's just all luck.

I don't know a lot about the differences between Castlevania and VS. Casltevania, but is there any reason why you can't just use the holy water strategy on Death?

That's what I would have told him to do, even though I haven't played it in the arcade.

The problem though (at least when I fight him) he rarely ever goes to the bottom of the screen so it's really hard to hit him with the holy water the only weapons that work are the dagger (which sucks), the cross and axe. But whenever I start owning him with the axe he starts jumping at me forcing me to either dodge him and get hit by a little scythe or let him hit me and dodge the scythes. The cross is alright but he I can only seem to hit him one or two times with a triple shot cuz he keeps constantly jumping out of the way. (maybe I'm just unlucky) It's crazy hard way diff than the nes fight where you can use holy water and pretty much own him if you hit him just right. :)

Does Death not float down from the top right part of the screen in VS. Castlevania?  The holy water strategy depends on having a double or triple shot and lobbing a holy water vial onto the raised platform to the right every time you jump.  If you get the timing right, and it's not that hard, Death will float down onto the holy water flames and get stunned repeatedly while taking damage.  There's no need to wait until he floats down towards the large central platform to hit him with holy water if that's what you've been trying.

Wow I didn't know about that thank you, I'll give it a shot next time.  :)

Decided to give it another shot with the holy water strategy. Wow that really made it easy, Death's cake if you can just slam him right when he comes down and keep chucking holy waters at him, I beat him in like 5 seconds! Drac's first form was a bit more difficult then the nes game and required a whole new strategy, I died probably 5 or 6 times before I figured out the correct one, but his second form was still cake with the holy water.

Okay here's an update to my original list with vs added.

1)Castlevania / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula(all incarnations beat the MSX one with a save state that started me at drac as I hate the whole key thing and have zero patience for that sort of thing)
2)Simon's Quest/Dracula II: The Accursed Seal
3)Legend of Demon/Evil Castle / Castlevania 3
4)Dracula XX
5)Dracula X: Nocturne in The Moonlight/Symphony of The Night
6)Legend of Dracula/Castlevania Adventure
7)Legend of Dracula II/Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
8)Castlevania Legends / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Dark Night Prelude
9)Vampire Killer/Castlevania Bloodlines
10)Castlevania N64/ Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Apocalypse
11)Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness/ Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Apocalypse The Legend of Cornell
12)Castlevania Chronicles / Castlevania Chronicle Demon/Evil Castle Dracula.
13)Super Castlevania 4/ Demon/Evil Castle Dracula
14)Castlevania: Circle of The Moon / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Circle of The Moon
15)Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance/Castlevania: Concerto of the Midnight Sun
16)Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow/Castlevania:Minuet of Dawn
17)Castlevania: Lament of Innocence/Castlevania
18)Castlevania: Curse of Darkness / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula:Curse of Darkness
19)Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Crucifix of The Blue Moon
20) Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin / Demon/Evil Castle Dracula: Gallery of Labyrinth
21) Demon/Evil Castle Dracula X68000
22) VS Castlevania (beaten the normal and hard difficulties, hard was crazy two hits kills you and the levels are way harder too, filled with lots more medusa heads and bats, not for those who don't know the level layouts by heart and know where all the meats are)

And I'm currently working on Rondo in the dracula X chronicles.

If you have any of the classic systems (NES, SNES, Genesis), I'd suggest buying these
NES
CastleVania
CastleVania II
CastleVania III
SNES
Super CastleVania IV
Genesis
CatleVania: Bloodlines
I took the same route and have not been dissapointed.  Hell, I even bought the Genesis mainly to play Bloodlines (Came with 10 games though, heh heh).

First Castlevania I ever saw/played the Vs. Castlevania at a pizza parlor.  I was completely awestruck and barely made it to the second level.  I only had 3 quarters and had lousy eye/hand coordination.

Later I found out it was on the NES and saved every last penny I could to buy the cheap nes and then finally the Castlevania game.  I played that game to death.  I got better and better until one day I finally made it to the clock tower level after narrowly beating Death.  Then i died falling off a parapet due to one of the damn phantom bats.  I recall how thrilled I was after defeating each and every boss, inching my way further and further game after game.  Then came the day I ran into dracula.  It must have taken me dozens of tries until I decided to study his attacks and patterns and learn to strike his blasted head.  I wasn't thrilled when he burst into a demonic leviathan form and stomped me to death.  God that just sucked!  But then came the grand day when I beat that 2nd form and the credits strolled.  Hard mode had me pinned down for a while until I learned where just about every secret, treasure, and meat was.  I learned where every fishman spawned so I could plan my stance in the catacombs.  Once I learned how to use firebomb(holywater) on each of the lesser bosses I began to start to power play CVI.  I wish I could recall how many times I flipped the scoreboard and the stageboard.  I was probably never so in the zone for days at a time (I put the game on pause to sleep a lot between stints).

When I was loaned Simon's Quest most everyone I knew had finished it so they leaked info that I wish I wouldn't have heard.  Needless to say I beat it with the worst ending.

And that's it.  Only two Castlevania's ever completed.  Now that I'm older (30s) I'm finding I'm not to great at platform games.  Oh, I try and enjoy them but I just can't help but skip around the various ones.

I almost beat that Master of Darkness game on the Gamegear that starred Dr. Social.  It was an ok Castlevania clone.

Yeah it's def. crazy hard. I had to memorize where all the keys where first with the infinite lives cheat in order to finish it. Once you know where the keys are it's doable though. It's just a matter of memorizing the enemy patterns and knowing what weapon to use against each boss. For the dracula form 2 fight I just malled him with the dagger and he couldn't do anything. ;D

That game is probably one of the easiest Castlevania's I have ever played.  I blew through it in less than 5 hours with full map completion and earning the best ending.  Whats worse I rented it at Blockbuster years ago and beat it in 2 days.  It was one of the better GBA iterations but Aria was better

Just beat Haunted Castle today! Wooo!

So that leaves just Vampire Killer, which is a pain in the ass. Everything else has been beaten!

hey, i just "beat" Simon's Quest for the first time today if you only consider getting the "best" ending "beating" it.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.

I'm up to Dracula in the original game, and I simply can NOT beat that bastard. I always seem to die in his first form. I'm going to have to practice it a lot.

I'm kind of stuck in the catacombs of Castlevania 4. (The stage with all the spikes and spiders) It's kind of the first truly challenging stage in that game.

I am working my way through Harmony of Dissonance and Castlevania 2 as well.
