Both and I'm poor. I'll just wait and buy only the games I want. First I'll get the 3DS with Mario Kart and Zelda. Next year, the NGP with wathever they have in mind.

The rich comment was just a bit whimsy, but let's face it --this IS an expensive hobby.
-
I'm going to get a PSP1.
-
I'll just wait for the emulators. ;D
-
That'll take a while, plus you'll need SupahComputah to emulate properly.
And if you got a computer like that, well then you're rich already. :P
-
Isn't the PSP2 the hand-held console that only allows you to download games rather then use the UMD? Or Am I thinking of a different PSP system?
-X
-
That's the PSP Go.
But the new PSP (NGP) is rumored to do that as well. Either that, or some kinda crazy format that works on a MemoryStick.
-
None of the above, I'm a classic gamer who already has a PSP Phat, a GBA and a DS Lite, I have my handheld needs satisfied.
-
3DS for me, and perhaps the NGP sometime later. I only bought a PSP for DXC. The same thing will probably happen if they release a CV game for the NGP.

The NGP will use cartridges, just like DS and 3DS. But it'll have online distribuition too.
So you can buy games on stores or online if you want.
-
Neither, I just hope the new monster hunter game comes out for the first PSP and not the NGP
-
If I get one, it will probably be the 3DS, but I'll wait for a year or two until Nintendo releases the improved, better designed, version of it, like they do with ALL their handhelds.
-
I'm really surprised by this poll. This is a hardcore forum and not even half of us are really interested in buying next gen portables right now --how odd... I wonder why.
-
I never liked portables, I have been hoping for a console based game, with lots of work into it.
-
Only interested in the 3DS, but I'll wait for a price drop and when I have more money, and hopefully there will be a second model with improvements by then.
I have my DSi XL to keep me occupied. Playing through Last Window (sequel to Hotel Dusk) right now. Loads of fun. Oh, Kyle Hyde... I've missed you. (Played through the first game all those years back with the worst sunburn I've ever gotten. Didn't do anything but sit around in my house shirtless for a whole week, slathering aloe on my torso and face every couple hours. Played the game non-stop till I beatered it.)
Pretty anxious to play the Ocarina of Time remake, though. Just gotta wait...
-
I got to take a good look at the 3DS during PAXEast.
The 3D effect, when on, is done pretty darn well, but you must remember to be looking at the 3DS correctly (no funky viewing angles).
But it's very well done! I'll most likely be getting this at launch. Kid Icarus & Resident Evil look mighty smexy.
-
Hmm...Ipad 2 seems convincing to get and its not on here.
Oh well atleast 3DS will be getting castlevania hopefully
-
HOLY CRAP!!! PSP2 (options 2/3) is so unpopular, that twice as many people have been violated by a Dark Priest!!!
-
I'm looking forward to both but I probably won't get one until something comes out that I want to play. But if I do get one early it's probably going to be the 3ds
-
Shame we didn't have a who cares, give me the retro consoles and games option. :(

To me, it sounds like a good thing.
-
I'll be getting both, because 1. i gots money, 2. i gots money, and 3. we all die someday, might as well enjoy this shit while i'm still young

But..when you're old and retired, isn't that the optimal time to play games? That's when you'll likely have more time to do that sort of stuff and less energy to experience new things.
I mean, when you're young aren't you supposed to, like, I don't know..snort coke and bury your head between a couple of fat titties or something? :-X
-
I don't like to think that far ahead, cuz we could all be dead next month or next year. So my motto is live it up while we're still here!
-
I'd like to get a PSP2 but I don't know enough about it just yet. I have an iPhone and I still use my PSP Phat as well, so I'm not in a hurry to get anything new just yet.
-
I went to the midnight launch in New York for the 3DS.
I've got one now, with Steel Diver, Super SFIV, and Pilotwings Resort. :3

So how is Steel Diver? It looks pretty interesting, but I've heard mixed opinions on it.

I got to demo the game. I like the sidescrolling missions but, like a real submarine, controls are awkward. There's a dive meter and a forward/backwards. I like shooting down ships with Torpedoes. That one requires depth measuring and if you want it to be a little more realistic, you gotta spin yourself so that the periscope spins with you (you could just a slider but WHAT FUN IS THAT!?). :P
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The 3DS has a higher resolution than the DS/DSi. Because of this, there are two options when you play DS games:
1. Do nothing. Pick the game.
The game's default resolution will get stretched to fit the two new screens, vertically. That means the touch screen at the bottom and the top screen are large, but there is a small 'blur' factor because the DS resolution is being enlarged and smoothed out. You may notice some slight washout of colors, but the games are on the two screens at a large size.
2. Hold the START+SELECT button, and pick the game to play on the menu.
This plays the game at "Original DS Resolution". You will get accurate pixel-perfect playback. The problem? Because the 3DS has a higher resolution than the DS/DSi, you will have a lot of empty black real estate on BOTH SCREENS (the touch screen is also of a larger resolution on the 3DS than on the original DS). It's about 15-20% 'empty black' on the touch screen and a lot of empty space on the left and right of the upper screen (since that screen is wider).

I went to New York City yesterday so I had to stop at the Nintendo store and check out the 3Ds. I love it and I wish I had the money right now to get one. I only tried out street fighter, which looked really great and pilot wings which was fun but the 3D wasn't quite as good. Still looked awesome though. I can't wIt to see what a Castlevania is going to look like

So how is Steel Diver? It looks pretty interesting, but I've heard mixed opinions on it.
I actually really like Steel Diver, but it can be quite challenging. Playing as the little sub is I suppose what one could call 'easy mode', since the small sub can fire torpedoes forward as well as vertically. The graphics are really really great. I kinda with there was a "The DraculaX Chronicles" for 3DS now, since Steel Diver's mission mode is a 2.5D Sidescroller (with true 3D in stunning goodness). Driving a large submarine in the small caverns is very challenging. I've only done the first three missions and the training and it's quite tough. Periscope Battle is far more fun if you stand up and spin (it's also a lot better since you're not using the stylus to maneuver yet another lever).
One of the coolest things about the 3DS is the out-of-the-box built-in game "AR Games", where you take a physical card, place it on a flat surface and the 3DS uses the camera to create stages out of it. That's one of the things that's used up a lot of my time (I need to take breaks often though, haha).
My nephew and I were so impressed with AR Games, but we were also playing Pokemon Black on the regular DS, and we thought that Nintendo could totally rake in the cash if they took the Pokemon formula and used AR cards and had you battle out your moves in front of one another in glorious 3D with household objects as a backdrop. Oh man, I would totally play that sort of thing. It'd be the closest to having your Pokemon in the 'real world'. xD
Here's a video on the "Augmented Reality" Cards (AR Cards). Once again, this features comes with the 3DS, so it's a build-in game.

@Profbeanburrito:
PilotWings is better if you bring the 3D-Slider down to about halfway. When it's in full 3D it's just too much and gives me a headache, but with just a slight 'touch' of 3D, it's quite nice. Kinda makes me wanna play StarFox64. Hahaha!
-
Is Super Street Fighter 4 any good? Every time I see that game I can't help but be impressed by the visuals, looks like the console version!
-
It's pretty much if you took the PS3 version and lowered the polygon count/texturing.
I actually got mad for a while 'cuz I accidentally put "Fight Request ON" before configuring my buttons, and entered Arcade Mode... and then promptly got challenged by random people twice.
I beat the first person (NO LAG, WHOOT), Vega VS. Ryu (I was Vega). The 2nd match, which happened immediately after, was terribly laggy, and it was Vega VS. Akuma (I still picked Vega). However, due to the lag and my buttons being incorrect, I did not do so hot.
Although the visuals are awesome, the framerate is not as silky smooth as the console versions.... but it's still damn impressive how great that game looks for it being a 3DS title (I'd say it's about 25-30fps? Not sure). The HUD is on the 3D 'foreground' so it's pretty cool. It's like you're looking at your characters fighting through a window.
I have not turned on the 'behind the shoulder' mode, and don't think I will be doing that any time soon. I'm not that great at the game and don't need another handicap tacked on top of that, haha.
It's a little of a cheap-yet-awesome copout to use the Touch Screen for Supers, however:
1. you can set your mode to 'PRO MODE' and it won't do that. It'll just have four area buttons for default moves (Focus Attack, Personal Action, LP+MP+HP, LK+MK+HK), instead of 'LITE MODE' which you can personalize per character, and it will have stuff like "ULTRA" "SUPER" "SPECIAL" (per character, so you can actually assign a HadokenLP/MP/HP to a button).
2. when you fight online you can request to fight people who only use your same method of play (PRO or LITE), that way you don't fight spammers who just use the special move buttons for everything. You know, in case you're worried about them being too good now that you don't actually have to press the buttons for the supers...
-
I'm sure I'll get both, but I'm not in much of a hurry for either one. I just hope both systems have stronger libraries this time around...at least as far as things I want to play. (And it seems like games stopped coming out for the PSP just after it started getting good). I still have yet to get as much enjoyment out of a handheld as I do a console.
Also, the only way I'll buy the first iteration of the 3DS is if they release a CV during that time period. It's exciting that all of these publishers are throwing weight behind this handheld, but the only things that have me even halfway interested are Kid Icarus and Skyward Sword. Definitely can wait a while on those.
-
I will get a 3DS when A) they release the inevitable new model with better battery life/more ergonomic design/a microwave oven, B) RE Revelations is out, as I'm always hankering for some old fashioned survival horror, and C) when it is confirmed that there is a better JRPG/Dating Sim : Every other genre ratio.
The NGP... I dunno. If it's just a handheld PS3, I guess that could be cool, but if it has the problem of very few worthwhile games that the PSP had, I'm skipping it. (also I'm fully expecting it to be 599 US Dollars)
