Agreed.  It's unique and mystical.  Soundtrack is in Top 5 series for me, up with the likes of Castlevania IV, Lament and Symphony.

Always try and play Belmont's Revenge once or twice a year, so easy to get into and an utterly captivating experience.

You posted music from Belmonts Revenge and you left out the best track in the game!?

Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge Music (Game Boy) - New Messiah (Crystal Castle) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHLsolltIJ8#)

Belmont's Revenge is my favorite of the GB soundtracks.

I like this track a lot:

Yeah, Ripe Seeds (Plant Castle) is my favourite track in the game.
Overall, Belmont's Revenge has the best soundtrack on the original Game Boy, IMO... I honestly can't think of any game with better music. Maybe Seiken Densetsu, or Link's Awakening. Or Castlevania Adventure, obviously. But no - Belmont's Revenge it is, at least for me.

EDIT: Well, there's always a possibility that Sunsoft did some spectacular soundtracks for the GB, but I can honestly only remember the music in the first two Batman games, which were very good, but not as good as in Belmont's Revenge.

I love this game also because of its good use of public domain music.

If there's ever a remake of this game, it would be a crime against humanity not to include the whole thing.

I'm glad you decided to choose the Rock Castle theme in your post.  That's one of my favorites.  I also have a strong fondness for Road of Enemy 2.  That's the theme that plays right before the battle with Dracula.

Another really cool Sunsoft soundtrack is Trip World. It has some really catchy and sometimes bizarre music.

Most of my favorite GB soundtracks come from Alberto Gonzalez. It's not exactly fair to put them up for comparison (it's not like you can't appreciate this stuff side-by-side, and it risks dis-appreciation coming from that angle) but I think it does blow a lot of other GB music out of the water, certainly at least with the overall quality of sound. (blasphemy, I know! ;) )

Turok 2, Scroll Stage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st4aSeFzEBA#)
Smurfs' Nightmare, Another World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnzHTkRLcE4#)
Metal Masters, Metal Beat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5NZXMEtUoY#)

And some of my other favorite stuff is from Stello Doussis, although he only did two soundtracks:
Ottifanten: Kommando Störtebeker, Underground Theme (sampled from emulation, so quality is a bit off) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-r-x8qRe0E#)
Das Geheimnis der Happy Hippo-Insel Music, Area 3 (back to proper hardware) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSPyqsgC8Iw#)

I think these sound a lot thicker and prettier than most other classic game boy stuff... even companies that usually made games with great music like Konami and Sunsoft have GB soundtracks that often leave something to be desired, imo. The compositions may be solid, but with chip music sculpting a good sound is very important too, and lots of GB music is guilty of using very very basic, undynamic-sounding voices. If you pick Dwelling of Doom from CV2 or Beginning from CV3, I think they sound MUCH more animated and lively than anything from Castlevania: The Adventure, for example. And it's not like it had to be that way just because of the different hardware. Thankfully, they rocked the wave channel bass the hardest for Belmont's Revenge and it gives it the beefiest sound of the three. They also used it for some nice melodic sounds as well.

Lol, sorry for the nerdy mini-rant! Slow morning... Anyways, even with my criticism, there's a special place in my heart for all of the Game Boy CV soundtracks. <3

I've always related that grinding groove in Cloud, Crystal, and the Bone Dragon's stage to an electric guitar.

I'm going to say what appealed to me the most about BR's soundtrack was actual classical arrangements thrown in with New CV tunes at the time. The best part is that Paspied and Chromatic Phantasie were enough to show off the composers inspiration and they didn't decide to throw in Toccata Fugue in D minor for good measure, not that I would mind hearing Toccata Fugue in another Castlevania at some point.  :)
