Title: Dragon Age 2
Post by: Kale on March 20, 2011, 08:58:34 PM
I don't know how many PC gamers are on here. But anyone pick this up?

It has quite a few flaws, but I found the over all experience pretty damn fun.

yeah I got it on pc. I dont like the controls and shit tho. I wanna get it on 360 and see if I like it better. For some reason they feel the need to totally redesign the interface and controls for each version of the game but totally remove the 360 controls from the pc version... unlike EVERY OTHER FUCKIN GAME thats on pc and 360.. which works exactly like the 360 version if you turn the controller on.

Yea that's true....

I wonder how the console version is... I hear some like it... but I prefer pc controls. Even if they didn't do a perfect job.

I played the demo and watch my friend play it, its great but whenever I see it I think of the name "Mass Effect Age 2". Now you are probably wondering why, well it seems that LIKE the Mass Effect series they toned down a lot of aspects for the sequel to make for a more "fluid" game play experience. I don't have a problem with that but I was kinda peeved that dungeons blatently repeat themselves and that you couldn't make your own persona. Sure playing as Hawke makes the story more interesting since he can actually SPEAK, but I still prefer the character customization of the first game. Like most people/critics though, I agree that the combat definitely does look VERY fluid and fun but again that just adds to my point that they went for a more streamlined experience in the game play and not so much the RPG elements as a lot of that was either cut out or extremely simplified. Its cool, but I don't know if i'll pick it up right away.

Was going to pick this up, but after playing the demo and reading reviews, I've decided to wait till it drops in price a bit.

Same here. I didn't buy Dragon Age Origins till Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition came out. I paid about $37 new for that on eBay, but you can buy it at stores for 50-60. I believe it would of been well over a $100 to buy the game and all the DLC. I'm gonna do the same thing with DA 2. I can always play through Origins with another character in the mean time, no hurry. I'm still wondering if they are going to put out Mass Effect 2 with all the DLC soon... Might be cheaper to buy that than pay for the DLC. Even though I already have ME2.

Have nearly finished it... but am stuck on the Mine Massacre quest. That damn High Dragon is still way too powerful, even for my level 20 Hawke and his crew. Anders is a must on that quest, Regroup helps a lot. Need more Health Potions.....

In any case, I'm enjoying it, but not as much as Origins. I might even go back to Origins soon enough...

I didn't do this, but, I recommend you bring res potions, and lots of range types. You can hit him when he's in the hiding spot. Though it could mess up and make you move all over the place. You can do LOTS of damage with that.

If you have mage hawke, gravatic ring would hel you kill off the draglings.

The look of the combat has improved (for mages and rogues, anyways), but everything else felt like a step backward.  Yea, I understand that they were looking to do something different than the usual epic fantasy "save the world from ultimate evil" schtick, but I just couldn't get into this one.  The story just wasn't as involving. It just felt like a giant side quest, and too much of the character management (and companion interaction) was dumbed down from Origins. A big no-no in the RPG segment these days as far as fans are concerned.......but unfortunately game devs these days are more worried about hooking in more casual gamers than keeping the hardcore fans.  See: TES5 gameplay changes going from Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim.
