That damn face under the throne room. It has a platform, but it, and the platform, seem to serve no purpose at all.
So WTF?
Not to mention, its a double sided face. the inverted version has it's own look too.

I think it's just for fun
this^^^
its just there basically.

I've noticed that too, and I was even gonna make a topic about it!
It's just another one of those quirky things about the castle that was put there to make you go "hmmm..."
Lets stretch things out, thought I'd bring it up here
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv119%2Fc0mbat%2Flibrary.png&hash=d0b35e114f1155462b7d97e101ccfaa233aaa956)
notice the portrait on the top right, barely visible but i see it as a reference to Paranoia!!!

here's another looong stretch!

the 2nd icon to the left
for some reason reminds me of one of Soma's transformations

haha, I can see it, both. XD
Those masks up there also remind me of something...
-
I always thought that face in the SotN keep was just a bit of foreshadowing that things would soon get topsy-turvy.
-
I do't see any masks I see butterflies :P
-
I always use that platform as a resting spot, to restore my magic for a few seconds or do whatever I happen to want. I think it's also positioned fairly close to that ledge with things on it (mist something?), so I tend to use that for positioning, as well.
-
Interesting, but I think they're just here for nothing.
-
I just noticed that again the other night, too. But that adds to the charm of SotN...so many curiosities about that game, whether they have any reason at all or not. I love that. Kind of like the different colors of blood skeletons in the inverted castle.
-
One of my absolutely favorite aspects of SotN is how much insane detail there is in the backgrounds. Not exaggerating when I say that each and every time I play through SotN, I notice something new. For a game that I've played through quite possibly close to 100 times by this point, that's saying a lot.
I love LoS for the same reason. The environments are so incredibly detailed.

Yeah, to bad all the games don't have that level of detail.

Well, there are the masks of Drama (Comedy and Tragedy, the smiley and frowny ones) but otherwise I dunno.
-
It's like the portrait that watches you in DoS or the bloody hands in PoR.
-
Or the painting of the blond Carmilla crying blood from Haunted Castle.

What about that messed up, out of place piano floor in DoS? That was pretty strange.
-
That was an interesting room, but it fell short due to its uselessness :P

I think the general consensus on the piano floor is that it was originally planned for something, (possibly to open some door or something) But never implemented.
I mean, hey, if we have screenshots of Gergoth chasing Soma across the lost village, anything is possible.

Agreed. Thats one of the things that sets SoTN above the regular platformer, IMO. You can really tell the designers thought it was a labor of love. <3

This. Nifty find, though.

My thoughts exactly! It might not be obvious the first time you see it, so it's a nice treat when you get to the inverted castle. Just a fun detail. :)
Also, the hallway leading to Olrox's room is an upside-down, flipped version of a hallway from CV1. Sewer-y background grates and all. Of course the slimmer part of the hallway you can just walk through normally in CV1, but they scaled it so Alucard couldn't fit through (and threw in the "what?!" easter egg).

Of course they're not exactly the same, but I'm confident it was completely intentional. Given how the candle layout for drac's room was the same and all...
-
Harmony of Dissonance had some surprisingly good attention to detail in its backgrounds. My favorite is the Legion Corpse room, even though you can't really see it until you kill the boss. For those of you who don't remember, the room is centered around a set of steps and a doorway. The steps are littered with corpses and the doors are blown open, revealing a portal to an alien landscape. Something came through...
(okay, okay,it's the creature you fight in the room. But still!)

I kept jumping and pressing different key chords in that room to see if anything would happen like, maybe, some kind of secret. But nope. Nada, Zip, and Zilch. Maybe they wanted to recreate the scene from 'Big' with Soma as Tom Hanks....

Hahah.
Yeah I assumed there was going to be another part in the game where you heard like a little 3-4 note melody and would have to go back and play it to unlock something. It even seemed obvious to me. But then I was totally wrong and there was no point in the keyboard. Ack...
