Yesterday, I decided to load up the psp version of SOTN to check the Frozen Half's description to see whether or not Konami USA removed the "new-half" reference; a part of me was afraid that Konami removed the term because of its meaning and I am the type who prefers faithful translations over censorship.
Sure enough, they did alter the description, but not for the worse. Instead of "New-Half," the description now says "transvestite".
So for those who denied or refused that "New-Half" meant shemale or those who try to play around with the term, (saying that it means that the Frozen half is a new spirit that is half human,) can now face the fact that the Forzen halfs are shemales.

Trvia: A she-male is a transgender. A transvestive still has male bits.
Still, the Frozen Half has to be the most...original enemy. Who'd expect a transvestite ice mage that serves a man-dinosaur?

Well, according to wiki, Shemale means:
Shemale (sometimes she-male) is a usually derogatory term[1] for a person who appears to be female, possessing both breasts and male genitalia.[2]
The term, along with tranny, ladyboy and others, is often used in sex industries[3][4] to refer to a pre-operative transsexual[5] who have not had sex reassignment surgery; although the industry is known to advertise catering to customer's interests. Less frequently, it is used to describe intersex people.[citation needed]
I never knew that shemales was a degatory term for men with their male parts and beast. Who knew?
*EDIT* I mean I knew the term meant that they had guy parts, but I didn't know it was an offensive word. *END EDIT*
But yeah, the frozen half is quite original.
-
"New-half" can also mean a pre-op transsexual, which is basically a transvestite, yeah.
-
A transvestite is a man or woman who gets pleasure by dressing up in clothes of the opposite sex.
-
And pre-op transsexuals tend to do just that.
-
Only in the CastleVania Dungeon will an argument arise from a video game to what constitutes as a transvestite...

You can't define a whole group of people on an action some may or may not tend to do.
-
That's true, but "new-half" carries the connotation of "ladies with junk." A regular old "woman trapped in a man's body" doesn't quite fit the bill.

whhhoooo! score another for the other team! you don't find many blatant hoomosexual references in video games. wewt for tolerance. the only other homosexual character I can think off off the top of my head is birdo...oh and thomas you were referring to a drag queen.
-
Wait, the Frozen Halves are supposed to be transvestites? O_O I guess I need to go read the bestiary!

Transvestite =/= homosexual. Not saying it never happens, but we don't really know for sure. Lots of straight men like cross-dressing and they aren't gay.

Transvestite =/= homosexual.

Well, I never masturbated to Frozen Halves anyways, so I don't really care what gender they are.
If those Salomes turn out to be men, though...heads will roll >:[

Hey, guys, is Bridget still cool? :3

That and on gamefaqs, where arguments whether or not Posion from Final Fight/Street Fighter is a transexual character despite the japanese bio havin her as a new half, how the recent american capcom arcade games for the console system, Capcom Collections, referred to her as a transvestite, and how she has a crush on Cody.
For those who do not know the character, Posion, she is this "chick":

I think some ppl defend such characters since they are in denial for they probably thought the character is hot before findin out that she was a he.

Same here. I didn't know who Frozen halves were until I read that CV girl enemies thread months ago. I played SOTN when it was new, but the Frozen Half characters never stuck in my head, while Salomes did.
-
I think transvestite is a very broad term to determine whether or not a person is gay or not. I don't know why they use the term Transvestite in Capcom Classic Collection and DXC since the term "Transexuals" is less ambigious and is a more accurate translation to the term "New-half".
-
Isn't the Frozen Half actually called Frozen Shade and not Frozen Half on both original and PSP SotN?
-
Frozen Shades are a different enemy--the blue ladies in the caverns. Frozen Halves are the edited, palette-swapped Aliorumnases that hang out in the inverted catacomb.

As far as i remember the japanese version described them as transvestites. The whole newhalf thing was usa made.

The use of "new-half" comes from the Japanese version. See for yourself (http://www2m.biglobe.ne.jp/~den/game/draculax/monstdic.html); it's number 139.
-
Just so ppl know, this is one weird topic :P , If this is still about the fact if the new-half thing was USA version or JAP version, it is/was in both versions.(last time I played it annyways)

Well, new half is a japanese term for transexuals so I don't think it was USA made, especially with the ttwo post before me, saying it was in the japanese version.
I think the original localization team just did a literal translation of the word rather than replacing it with an english term.

I suspected as much. The term was replaced with Transvestite in the PSP version. I guess they changed it since a lot of ppl do not know what new half means, considering it is a word used in japan.
-
I guess. That page's all in moonspeak, so I was just trusting the word of someone who translated it.
-
I decided to babel fish the link Steve provided to see if new half shows up once it is translated and this is what I got:
139 Frozen half 45 118 Water It is not Flame Flame Necklace Circlet of consequence boulder 600 The subordinate of evil spirit ガラモス of the new half which works the cold air
If you guys don't believe me, try babel fish and you see that the japanese version has the word "new half" in it.
here is the babel fish link:
http://world.altavista.com/
just paste the link Steve posted on the babel fish site to see for yourselves.

Still, Frozen Halfs look hot >.> andnot to mention they always seemed like one of the more powerful enemies, too bad they fall after 3 slices of a blade. (They can probably own shaft a couple times over >.>)
Anyway... Babelfish is a pretty litteral translationand not always accurate, its better if you get a translator. the term "new half" could just mean transvestite in english cuz they might not have "transvestite" in Japanese.
