http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Demon_Castle_War (http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Demon_Castle_War)
The infamous 1999 game where Julius Belmont finally destroys Dracula once and for all and ends the long 25 year continuity for this series.
Do you want this game? Do you think IGA should finally make it, or would you rather not see it happen?
I am all for this game to become a reality, it would be the perfect Castlevania launch title for the 3DS. If not a launch title, it should definitely happen sometime during the 3DS's lifespan.
The question though for those who do want to see it happen, would you rather it be a ClassicVania, or a MetroidVania?
-
LOL this is a real no-brainer question (http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/rolleye/rolleye0004.gif) wouldn't matter if it's classic or metroid, or blend or both
But the real question should be, what if it sucks? THEN WHAT WILL EVERYBODY HAVE TO SAY
-
Of course we want to see it be it Metroidvania or Classicvania, but WILL we see it?
Hell no is the answer. But the real question should be, what if it sucks? THEN WHAT WILL EVERYBODY HAVE TO SAY
The climactic battle between Dracula and the Belmont clan sucking? No way, it's gonna have helicopters, gunfight's John Woo slo mo, explosions everywhere, strip club's with succubus strippers in it, vampire booty shaking, Nolan North and Johnny Young Bosh and John Cena doing voice acting, and the soundtrack will be provided by Yamane and The Neptunes! With a special performance at the end of the game by Lil B the Based God!
This will be the greatest most swagged out Castlevania game ever. Ever. EVERRRRRRR!!!!
-
But the real question should be, what if it sucks? THEN WHAT WILL EVERYBODY HAVE TO SAY
Complete and utter disappointment, and then we all move on and wait for the next best or worst thing.
-
Never gonna happen, and you all know it deep down inside.
-
Never gonna happen, and you all know it deep down inside.
Because..?
-
They should make it for Tiger Handhelds. :)
-
Because..?
I think for one, IGA had nearly a decade to make the 1999 game and had many many opprotunities to do so. Instead he's done nothing but make filler side stories that people, for the most part, couldn't care less about.
-
If it's being made by IGA, there's no way it could live up to our expectations. I mean, yeah you know the man.
-
First of all, as others have already stated, Iga has already had many chances to tell his story, buy opted to create stupid ass story lines instead. He's a horrible story teller and I hope he never returns to the series. Any story he comes up with will pale in comparison to our imaginations.
-
Oh, u so mad...
My asnwer is yes, I want to see it. I was thinking if they can make it Classicvania + Metroidvania at same time...
-
Yes, I want such a game. It should be sort of like a combination between metroidvania and classicvania. No leveling up, stage by stage, but hidden power ups like life max ups and equipment. Sort of like LoS, but with no shimmying. We should also be able to play as everyone involved (Alucard, Julius, etc.) but everyone with their own stories that fit together to create one big cohesive one.
-
I would like the Demon Castle Wars comes to the 3DS, because it s a handheld, and IGAs handhelds are better than consoles ones. The main reason that I consider IGA must make 1999 game is that he state first the idea. We already know some of the plot, but not the Julius-Dracula final fight. Arikaido (Alucard) and Yoko (Shypha s descendant) appereance must be explain too. For that reason I think IGA should make the Demon Castle Wars game...
...But, with the new Lords of Shadow, new CV gamers and maybe the old ones, will probably get confused with the Demon Castle War plot. We will need to play again Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow to understand, maybe, better. In the worst of the case, IGA will launch a 3DS version of both Aria and Dawn, before Demon Castle Wars (for merchadise purpouse, I believe).
But, if tradition is correct, we will have a portable Castlevania in 3DS. Will be the 1999 one? I dont care that much. I only want a new 2D (or 2.5D Castlevania game!!!!).
-
A 1999 game? Staring Julius, Alucard (certainely), maybe an old Jonathan/Charlotte, a time traveler like St Germain? With the most climatic story of all CV's? HELL YES.
-
I would love to see it.
By IGA ofcourse not by Cox who I'm sure would try to pull some sort of lame story twist at the end lol.
I honestly would not mind it being a 2.5d metroidvania game for the 3DS which I think would be a great fit for such a game.
Also as far as story goes I would like for it to include many characters especially Alucard ofcourse. I still want Julius to be the lead hero and character (obviously) but fitting Alucard somewhere into the story where you get a chance to play with him through parts of the castle would be pretty nice.
-

Yes, that would be great. I want a CVIII (my favorite) gameplay, with switch characters, like Trevor-Alucard-Sypha-Grant. Maybe a Grant descendant. But NOT the Grant-mummy from Judgment (sorry for mention that game).
-

I forgot about Saint Germain. :o
I to would also love to see him return for the 1999 game.
His character really caught my attention in COD and I'd love to see more on his relationship/rivalry with Death.
-
I want to see the 1999 game come out for the 3DS, but leave it to another team and not IGA. A team who're classic CV fans like us who know what the rest of us want.
It should be sort of like a combination between metroidvania and classicvania. No leveling up, stage by stage, but hidden power ups like life max ups and equipment.
I was thinking of this too :) I was also thinking it should have a dynamite opening stage kinda like Contra 3 or Contra hardcore because it is THE Demon Castle Wars.
-X
-
A little torn... I don't want to see another half-baked cookie-cutter like the last 3 DS games. Konami better be ready to give IGA a proper budget and schedule to give this one the treatment it deserves. I thought Dracula X Chronoicles was very well done, but they kinda cheated because they simply polished up an existing game --we won't get anything close, much less surpassing this without some serious effort.
-
We need something with a strong story.
Not only 'Hey lol, it's Demon Castle Wars and Dracula will die for realz lolol'. We need something about Mathias' early life, how Dracula tried to destroy God and humans, why Death choosed to obay him, why and how he fell in love with Lisa, what did Alucard with humans, why Belmonts disappeared during years (cf. OoE), why the Morris and Lecarde families were chosen to help them, etc.
Also, truths about other characters: Galamoth, Aeon, Death, etc.
If many characters are involved, the story MUST be incredible. We deserve it!
It NEEDS final revelations, we need to know everything. We need to know. (dramatic music ends)
-
The thing about fleshing out the story points you mentioned, that's a very slippery slope. Cuz once they start explaining why Death obeys Dracula, Mathias' early life, etc. many people especially here will get pissed cuz it won't fit with THEIR vision on how things are. I mean look at the heated debates we have now with the little story tidbits they do give us. But sometimes less is more.
Really the 1999 game doesn't need that much story-telling anymore than how AoS was. However if the 1999 game was on consoles (unlikely) then I could definitely see the story being fleshed out the way you described in several cutscenes.

I agree with this, its just not really necessary to have an story-oriented game
-
Could care less about story, just make the damn game! Why does anyone even care about the story? We all know what happens anyway.
-

because we want to know how it happened.

because we want to know how it happened.
Fair enough. I'm just saying, based on all other Castlevanias and their stories, would anything like how they are presented satisfy you?
-
Things I would like to see in the 1999 Demon Castle Wars game -
* Julius, and how hyped he's already become because of the "prophecy" of the fated 1999 battle with Dracula, which may play a part in his characterization
* Direct involvement by the Vatican
* Alucard and his roles as both the son of Dracula and the only living accountant of the past battles against Dracula
* A Belnades (Yoko's dad or aunt perhaps)
* The passing of the whip from the Morris clan to Julius (either Jonathan or his children/grandchildren)
* St. Germaine and how he ties into things. (an affiliate of those who keep the Time Stream and how important the 1999 Battle is, perhaps?)
* How the Hakuba's are involved in the Eclipse seal (coming together of Christian and Shinto religions for a common good? Awesome potential)
* Dracula at full power - would involve epic battling of massive proportions (none of this get to the end, fight a few forms, then game over crap - I'm talking segmented battles-within-battles)
In fact, hand over the story to me. I'll make it awesome. Guaranteed.
-
Drac at full power would be awesome...especially if he dropped in on you a few times to hinder your progress (concealing his identity, maybe?)
I'm wondering if we'll ever see this game since it would be such a loaded project at this point, but it would be nice just to see how the game would turn out. Probably better left as lore (so as not to spoil the mystique), but what the hell.

Also, why do I want story? Because I do want.

How about... A Tactical RPG?
WAIT WAIT!! :o
Before you impeach me for blasphemy, think about it. I think it could be quite a cool idea. I mean, it was an all-out WAR, wasn't it? Therefore, the tactical combat. You would have heroes like Julius and Alucard, and regular soldiers who would assist you against onslaughts of Dracula's minions. And you would have spells and special abilities and shit like that, and so would Dracula's demons. You could fight in various areas in cities and villages infected, and at the end you'd reach Castlevania, there having to clear out area after area until you reach Dracula who would be strong as heck.

I believe any of us could do this non-existent game justice. I certainly would like a go at it, but I know nothing of programming... :P

Same goes for me. Hell, just let me write the story and then hand it over to the programers who I think will do the best job.

You have no idea how much thought I've put into the ideas that would tie the games together. I have had a webcomic plot in the works which half the purpose existing is to tie as many plot holes in the series together as logically possible. People think the games are haphazard in there plot, and they are - however a good chunk can be explained and tie the games and history together.
But that's because we CARE. We care enough to want to make the games as fun and complex as possible, both in gameplay and plot. We want the directors and developers to realize we give such a damn and actually sit down and give the series the attention it deserves, and not just a game for the sake of another game or something to show off pretty graphics.

Well, as the saying goes, sometimes if you want something done right, you just have to do it yourself.
Though I can't really talk because I also have no programming skill.

I for one approve of the fanmade Demon Castle War's.
I say if the 1999 game isn't made by the 10 year anniversary of AoS, which is 2 years from now I might add, then we at the dungeon shall forge our own vision of the final battle.

Just two years? I feel so... old.
-

Oh shit, same here.
-
Wow, really? 2 years will be AoS's anniversary?
Shit IGA, what the fuck have you been doing this whole time? He's had plenty of chances to make this game.
-
I think Konami has some sort of gag order on him, that prohibits him of doing any interviews, etc. Which is why almost 3 years later we're still in the dark about what happened to the Akumajo Dracula "Alucardvania" project.
-
Maybe they're not letting him do the 1999 game because of the LoS reboot. With a whole new storyline that doesnt seem to involve Nostradamus' prophecy and all that, maybe they've forgotten about it. :/
-
From a bussiness standpoint of view, the old saga is a danger for the new one if we are talking about the newcomers, and the most dangerous game they could make is the 1999 one, if they make it "big" (for a HD console) i will seem too similar to the epilogue of LoS and many people will buy it thinking it is the continuation and then... all is screwed up because they will face the old complicated lore, and that's just from a story point of view, if it's 2D people will ask why is it different from the 3D LoS, if it's 3D, IGA will screw it up and it will be the end of the LoS saga and the old too (If this one is bad, why will they buy another 3D CV game? People won't differentiate who made it).
I don't know, but I petty much think the old saga is done if Konami wants to keep the LoS the "main one".
And consider Hideo Kojima is now Konami's vicepresident, and he has his money involved in the new saga, every game must be greenlighted by him and he probably won't like to risk his money... these are dark times indeed
-
Castlevania 25th anniversary is coming... I'm expecting at least TWO Castlevania titles announced on E3: LoS 2 and next portable installment for 3DS/NGP (don't care which one, just make it happen, please).
-
**roots for the 3DS version**
I'm lovin' that little system so far, even without any games in it. I went to "Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy" last night and all the StreetPass Miis were lining up and helping me defeat ghosts. :P
But back on topic, I think a lot of cool stuff can be done with Castlevania and the 3DS, especially with respect to foreground/background objects, etc. Gh-gh-gh-ghosts! :P

You mean like the beginning of stage 9 in CV4? That was cool, yet we haven't seen anything like it since and that was early to mid 1990s.
-
What's so dangerous about releasing another game for a saga that's been active for 20+ years? It's not like a new generation of newcomers just sprouted over night, they've always been around even way back when Chronicles was released and no one was complaining then. I don't think it was ever implied that the classic canon is done.. atleast not directly. Sure Cox has said LoS is a reboot of Castlevania, but he also keeps saying that it's an "Ultimate Marvel" affair, meaning that it can co-exist side-by-side with the classic canon.
There's going to be a 3DS Castlevania eventually, but I don't see any reason for the LoS story being realized on it due to console-only DLC, the fact that MercurySteam is already busy developing LoS-2, etc.
-
I don't understand how so many could want Iga, knowing what a terrible story teller he is, to make a game based on the events that took place in 1999. You KNOW he would screw it all up. Just use your imaginations. Nothing can top it.
-
For them to abandon a concept in the main timeline's canon that has been HEAVILY referenced in several games, and the opportunity to really revive the main time's game structure and tie everything together, would honestly be a stupendously idiotic move on their part. So much potential flushed down the shitter because they've put a perhaps slightly too ridiculous amount of stock in a alternate universe retelling? They'd be shooting themselves in the foot, in my opinion.
And this is with or without IGA. I honestly don't care if he doesn't do it. He took someone else's ideas and ran with them, why can't a new person?
You hear me, Konami? Get your shit together.
-

Pretty much how I feel too. It's not that I want IGA, but rather I don't want the main storyline to go unfinished. IMO, the storytelling in LoS wasn't all that great either. The story is one of the reasons I still play classic Castlevania. We get text at the beginning to set the story up and text at the end to finish it....with a few exceptions. It was so simple, but it worked. However, that type of storytelling isn't really accepted nowadays. It seems a lot of gamers and critics want much more than that. So many stories try to be too much and end up falling flat on their face.
Believe me...I LOVE a good story. I just wish developers would do it better.
-
I don't care about history. I didn't care on CV1 and neither did on CV SOTN.
At this point, I just want a refreshing Castlevania experience (no, not LOS, I don't think it's Castlevania enough for me, besides being a great action game). Metroidvania or not. Iga or someone else, I don't care.
-
I must admit I still would like to see IGA return for this game and redeem himself by shocking all the LOS fanboys and haters by making a very good CV experiance.
But more importantly as some others have said I do not want the main storyline to be killed off so if Konami feels the need to bring someone else in (Besides Cox) to make the 1999 game I may be a little disapointed but I would get over it quickly as long as the new guy/team incharge does the storyline justice and makes a great CV experiance for all of us.
-

I believe he is capable of doing so. Konami just never cared enough and when they decided to start caring, they went with the route of a reboot. I'd like to see what Iga can do with a longer timeline and bigger budget, like Mercury steam had. I still very much enjoyed his games and would not be opposed to his return.
-
I hope too, that it´s IGA who makes the 1999 game. Why? Because he makes the first statements to imagine how could the Demon Castle Wars are going to be. Well, maybe someone would make it, too (but not Kojima, PLEASE). But I think that IGA deserves that honor, to redeem himself, and to prove that he can make a good (portable) game. Hopefully, we don´t find recycled sprites (like in the DS games, or in Harmony of Despair), but new ones. I will prefer 2d art, among 3d. I mean, a 2d/2.5d game like Hardcorps Uprising, than a 2d/2.5d like Dracula X Chronicles.

How many chances do you want to give him!? It's not like he hadn't had several chances. He could have made it but he decided to make Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, Judgement, etc.
-
Friend its called money. He and Konami love it. He's going to milk it as long as he can until we lose interest. It reminds me of How I met Your Mother in terms of milking. They won't reveal the mother until we lose interest. :(
However, I will say he better do it if he's going to do it. He may not have another chance.
-
Thing is, he had several opprotunites to do it, hell he could have done the 1999 game after AoS instead of Dawn. I rather place my bet's on Shenmue 3 being released before the 1999 game at this point. :-\
-
I hope they wait even longer to release CV1999.. let the anticipation build for a few more years.. let MercurySteam release a few more CV-ish titles so by the time 2016 rolls by, the fanbase (what's left of you) will be BEGGING for IGA to return Castlevania to it's 2D glory.

But the Castlevania series will be robooted again by then. You can only have a fan waiting for so long before he say's "Fuck it" which is where im at at this point.

I don't think IGA will be around for that long in terms of developing new CV games. The fans are losing their patients with him so by 2016 we might see a different director at the helm.

This is what I am talking about. People don't want to create it because they don't love castlevania, but I does!
So, here is my topic: http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,5405.0.html (http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php/topic,5405.0.html)

Or Konami could say, "Hey, we're having issues reaching our fanbase. Nintendo, we'll let you produce a game for the Wii and 3DS if you help us out here with some storywriters and developers." I mean, they were both arcade developers and then Konami pretty much cozied up to Nintendo until the Playstation era. Some of the old guys from that era still work for Nintendo and, I dunno, maybe they'd welcome a joint venture with Konami. Nintendo loves anniversaries and nostalgia trips more than any other developer I"ve seen. Anyone that recycles the same mascot for 20 straight years sounds like a good partner for a fan-service game.
-
A part of me would like to see the 1999 game made, but there's also a part of me that thinks Konami would screw it up, whether it's the story or the gameplay. I also have this little theory that the Demon Castle War was left to be ambiguous, letting the viewer interpret how the big battle went for themselves. At least that's how I see it.
-
This is going to end up like Alien vs. Predator; by the time this game actually comes to fruition, there will be no hope for anything beyond disappointment.
-
After the idea was mentioned in previous games, it was obvious that whatever game Konami cook up, it will never be as good as whatever people had imagined. Creating such game could lead only to dissappointment in some part of the fanbase.
They should have create this game before mentioning it or give very very vague description of the events, so people wouldn't imagined it as something beyond epic. Sadly with AOS plot it was rather impossible.
-
if you guys want a 1999 game so bad then just support this
Castlevania: 1999 Demon Castle War (Teaser) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzcD83pKIuo#ws)

I forgot about this thing. I forget if that Dracula was made from scratch?
-
I don't know... I already have my own idea how this happened, and if they make a game of it my theories would be ruined forever, mainly because my idea involves characters from the Touhou series appearing.
It isn't as nonsensical as it sounds, I swear.
-
It isn't as nonsensical as it sounds, I swear.
Then care to lay out the story of said game for us?
-
Well, it isn't really a story so much as it is certain details, but...
It all hinges on Sakuya (http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Sakuya_Izayoi), who I believe to be a Belmont because of her weapons of choice (throwing knives and a stopwatch that affects time itself) and the rumors of her being a former vampire hunter. Because there's a heavily implied connection between her and several characters who live or lived on the moon, I also believe that both she and Julius went there as part of the whole "sealing the castle in a solar eclipse" dealie, where she found the luna dial, a golden stopwatch that has a wider variety of time powers, but stops her from aging. There are more details about it in my fanfiction, which I'm off to shamelessly advertise now that I have enough posts for that.
-
Before I elaborate on my criticism, I just wish to point out that even though the Sorrow serie is part of the original timeline, I somewhat see it as the extended-Castlevania series. Personally, I believe the game ended in 1999, with the final battle and there was no reincarnation of Dracula through a new being and the Castle was not trapped during the solar eclipse by the Hakubas but utterly destroy it. I personally see Sorrow series as a "What-If" scenerio in terms of it's story, don't get me wrong though. Aria of Sorrow was my first Castlevania game and is always going to be memorable for it's great story and gameplay.
Now, my only problem with the 1999 Demon Castle War's storyline is the fact unlike other Belmonts, and even though Dracula was never at his true potential is that in this final battle, Julius successfully defeats Dracula and ends up in a 36 year-old amnesia. Personally, I believe that was fake. Because after this huge battle and the exposure to the Media and the European/Japanese government trying to secretly contain this event to the world's population, Julius fakes his amnesia and probably acts as a victim for the sake of his safety and the dark information about the 1000 year old supernatural feud. Julius never hid the whip in the Castle, that's what the huge trenchcoats are for. It's an important weapon to the Belmonts that defeats the notorious of all villains and derp, imma hide mah whip to the damn castle and not use it against lesser enemies or just incase there is something much deadlier (Galamoth). No, because Soma was an important role of a perticular event, he decided to give out his limited information such as his name. Both Arikado and Julius know about these conspiracy theories.
-
That is some interesting theories Zarathustra, however the main reason I believe Julius sealed Vampire Killer within the castle was because it's the Bane of the Children of the Night, the ultimate weapon that absolutely no demon can stand against it; Dracula's castle being the ultimate symbol/conduit of evil, so by sealing the Holy Whip, the forces of Hell would forever be kept in check. Of course, he didn't anticipate the castle reemerging in 2035 when sealing it, since Dracula was forever destroyed.
and yeah DoS does say that upon Dracula's death Vampire Killer has weakened [but it's true power hasn't entirely been lost], whatever that means. DoS had a lot of wacky plot details to begin with anyway.
-
The Whip weakening was an AoS plot point, once Soma destroyed Chaos and got rid of the castle. (I still see it as having been completely destroyed and it's remaining energies sucked back into it's eclipse alternate dimension)

Aria was an interesting game and it was also having an interesting scenario. I like ad support the idea for a reincarnation of Dracula, but like most people if not all, i believe that Dawn wasn't necessary to be made. It's only a waste of time, since it doesn't contribute anything to the series, other than making more plot halls.
I believe that the series should have end with Aria and instead of expanding the sorrow universe to focus on the plot halls between LoI up to the Demon Castle War. Order of Ecclesia was on the right side, but unfortunately, it came to late to save any of the mess.
I want to believe that after LoS trilogy, it will return back to 2D style or at least give the chance to fill the gaps on the series. I don't care if they are going to give them back to Iga or someone else, as long we are going to get some answers, of what happened at the missing years, like OoE did.

I can't subscribe to this point of view. Basically it sounds like "let the games be shit, but we will have answers". As much as I really want to see Old Timeline completed, low quality of the games was the reason for the current situation and the reboot. I don't want quality of the series to be sacrificed again after LOS trilogy. Castlevania was in decline long enough and its time for the series to rise again, even if old canon would be forgotten and sacrificed in the process. This is the choice between past and the future and in this case I personally like to see Castlevania moving forward.

As always, you are getting things the wrong way, first, it wasn't the directors decision for what platform the games will come out, but the companiy's. So don't complain about low quality, when it was the company's fault. Second don't forget that the series started as 2D and they began their attempt for 3D, when 3D became a trend. Third, there was the 2D Castlevania games and the 3D Castlevania games, i can't see why they can't continue to exist together?
Without past, you have no future and those who have forgotten their past, are doom to live it again. Also if you were getting the time to read the new interview with Yamane, you would have read that what Konami does now with the series is some experimenting and also learn some other interesting things.

last i checked, IGA worked for Konami. He IS part of the company. But it WAS his decision to constantly reuse sprites and game assets wherever possible that decreased the quality of games past Symphony of the Night, with some exceptions. Especially later entries like PoR and DoS which effectively almost killed the franchise, and Castlevania Judgement, which drove the nail into the coffin.
So don't complain about low quality, when it was the company's fault.
Let's put it this way. If they gave free reign to IGa again. What do you think he would do? He would blow whatever budget they give him, and he would never be able to deliver on the same scale as LoS. So his budget would be lowered again, and his bad practices would resurface. One of the many problems was not just asset reuse, that was the least of anyone's worries- The biggest problems were gimmick driven gameplay. He always designs the gameplay gimmick first, and THEN he builds the game around that and tries to force the story to fit it. It works alright when he makes original stories, but once he starts making 'sequels' to other games in the timeline, he finds a way to screw it up bad.
DoS is just terribly written and terribly presented, and started a horrible trend where IGA tried to appeal to younger audiences.
PoR was nothing like Bloodlines, and is a disgrace of a sequel, and suffers the worse case of asset reuse in the entire series.
LoI had an interesting premise, but was plagued by dungeon crawler syndrome, with flat uninteresting maps, and somewhat stiff controls. Not to mention sub-par graphics for the time period it came out. And then the small story problems that arise, such as Mathias being totally absent from the entire game, only to show up at the end and reveal his betrayal, and somehow expect us to really feel anything other than "Oh. Ok. so that's where Dracula came from".
And CoD- Well, it took the tolerable problems that LoI had with it's level design, and multiplied it tenfold, making BIGGER, FLATTER levels. And introducing a rather stupid plot, that only furthers the "anyone can defeat Dracula" problem that has ever plagued the series. (I dont care if the game says "he was bestowed with a fraction of Dracula's power so that's why!" No. it's bullshit.)
Do I even need to start on Judgement?
IGA's judgement was failing, and by the time he made another GOOD game, OoE, and then CV the Adventure Rebirth, it was too little too late, he had already doomed himself.
Second don't forget that the series started as 2D
So did every other videogame franchise from the 80's and 90's that now enjoys frequent 3D games. (except Mega Man)
And they began their attempt for 3D, when 3D became a trend.
It was not just a "trend" it was a breakthrough in technology, that actually allowed a third dimension, WITH good quality. Look at some older 3D systems, they could not hold a candle to what the N64 and PS1 (and even the Dreamcast) All because they started 2D and went 3D when it went big, means nothing. The series evolved and grew. it's natural.
Third, there was the 2D Castlevania games and the 3D Castlevania games, i can't see why they can't continue to exist together?
They can. Just don't let IGA near them, or keep him on a very short leash. At least make sure to keep his very bad development habits in check.
Without past, you have no future and those who have forgotten their past, are doom to live it again.
We are talking about a "storyline" here. nothing else. if the classic continuity must be sacrificed for the series to be reborn again and refreshed for the modern day, then so be it. As it is there is just too much baggage. the only people who bought the games IGA released were the fans, and his attempts to bring in new ones failed. It's a similar problem with Mega Man. There are too many series and too many protagonists to be able to successfully "relaunch" it.
Also if you were getting the time to read the new interview with Yamane, you would have read that what Konami does now with the series is some experimenting and also learn some other interesting things.
And LoS is one of those experiments, and it has done tremendously well, and while Cox and MS will make no more CV games after LoS2, I do hope that the bar of quality that LoS has set, is not lowered back down to the low standards we previously had.
-
Sure Iga works for Konami, but when you have a low budget with little time, you'll get whatever you can to make the job done, like DoS, Konami and Nintendo, they were pressing him to make a Castlevania that it will utilize the DS Capabilities almost with the lunch of the console, so he came with what he came. I agree that PoR was nothing like what we have been promised and expecting to get.
Let's put it this way. If they gave free reign to IGa again. What do you think he would do? You are wrong, because the only time he had let's say a decent budget and time, was when he was making SotN and even back there he was time pressured. Never again he had a chance like that, so you can't judge him, when what he was doing was what he could do, with what he was having, so he could make it in time. On the contrary, MS, has all the time and budget in the world to do, like it pleases, something that never happen with Iga and it will never happen.
If you have read any interview back then, when Castlevania 64 was coming out, you would have know that the series they were trying to get to 3D, like many other games, not to evolve, but to strike the competition, so if some other titles didn't selling well, when they went from to 2D to 3D, i doubt that Konami would have been so eager to bring the series to 3D back then.
They can. Just don't let IGA near them, or keep him on a very short leash. At least make sure to keep his very bad development habits in check.
I have never said that Iga should get to make if there is going to be a new 2D Castlevania game, only that they should have never sacrificed the 2D, because casual players like shiny 3D graphics, i'm playing games from the 80's, along with many other friends of mine and believe me, now days, we prefer to play older games than the new repetitive ones, that they can't stand out from the mass. I've got RE6 and after i've finished Leon's campaign, i have never touch it again, because the other campaigns, they didn't resemple at anything what RE series are, they are like just playing third person shooters.
Again i have never spoken about Iga's timeline, but in general, about all the series, because if you disregard the past, you'll also disregard the 2D history the series have.
And LoS is one of those experiments, and it has done tremendously well, and while Cox and MS will make no more CV games after LoS2, I do hope that the bar of quality that LoS has set, is not lowered back down to the low standards we previously had.
So did SotN, but i don't remember after that, giving him a big budget and as much time he was needed to come with something interesting, unlike LoS. I don't see Konami rushing MS for a specific date of release, they can have released, whoever they want. Even MoF got delayed, so they can polished it, before release, something that never happened with Iga. Give him or someone else the same terms and believe me, he whoever is, would make something good in 2D. The only time Iga got a little more time, was with OoE and while not 100% perfect, it was on the right path on many things.
I don't know, maybe i'm getting old, but believe me, if a game doesn't appeal me with it's game play, no matter what story, graphics has or even sold 1.000.000.000 copies world wide, i will not get it.
