The first thing I thought after watching the pic was "trve kvlt black metal"

Take note IGA. THAT is the true Simon Belmont!

Like it.... but to me, it's a lot more Conan The Barbarian than Simon Belmont.

well, considering the cv1 cover
he pretty much is

The Conan movie came out before the original Vampire Killer so it doesn't surprise me if the artists felt inspired to use Conan as the basis for Simon. I personally like it better this way.

I really doubt people dressed like barbarians in the 1690's.
He would have looked more like this.

people usually hate the Kojima Simon.
How about thee simon's?

Dude, thsoe 2 last ones look BAD ASS!
-
I like the close-up line art one. his outfit in that pic reminds me of SCV4.
-X
-
Those are definitely more Belmont... less fur, more leather. ;)
-
The last two are made of win and gold.
-
I'd like to see you travel through the Carpathians with simple leather armor and no sleeves.
-
the first 1 and the last 2... That first one is fuckin epic. The last 2 are a great redesign of chronicles simon. Atleast he doesnt look like a bondage homo in those
-

For real right?
-
Great work all around, but initial pic no show for me :-[
-
Agree, the last two..genius!
-

You know it's a game, right? Action Video Game Heroes don't catch cold, get hypothermia, athlete's foot, or muscle atrophy. They also don't suffer from broken bones when falling from great heights. I think a little Conan-ish armor is the least of his worries.
-
Great arts.
But the last two...well at least the last picture is a BIT of improvement over his "Kojima design". But only a bit. The first picture in this thread is superrior and I wholeheartedly agree - this is Simon Belmont, not some leather clad redhead, IMHO.
-
yeah I like the last two, but the first one remians genuinly Simon...just as nes and snes intended it.
-
The two lasts were amazing.

I think ayami Kojima can illustrate Simon more classically "barbarian" alpha. I think this piece illustrated by her would have suited Simon perfectly if he wore the whip and fur clothing

awesome for A Belmont maybe, but definitely not Simon. It's too modern looking. Simon is from the 1600's remember that.

As if anyone cares about designs being apprpriate to the era in Castlevania series...

I do...
if you are going to go for certain eras, ( and I mean, NAMING them, ) then you want to try and keep close to how people dress in that time.
-

I don't think he would look modern if he was wearing the barbarian outfit instead.
-
These redesigns are all amazing. I do prefer the first picture in this thread though. It pretty much sums up the image of toughness and endurance expected from the finest line of vampire hunters. Definitely better than the red-haired Kojima designs.
I think there most definitely is a Conan influence in Simon's design. This is Ahnold's portrayal...There are definitely some remarkable similarities, and the NECA figure is especially similar...especially the headband. (No, the NECA figures are not perfect by any means, but the figure really does resemble Conan, probably a bit more than the in-game version...?)
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcdn.pastemagazine.com%2Fwww%2Farticles%2Farnold-schwarzenegger-conan-the-barbarian-c10102051.jpeg.jpg%253F1267100443&hash=574cf0887bcb1ce29080c7ca010d7a3221a31f9e)
What do you think of Kojima's concept art from Chronicles? I think it looks a little better than the red-haired version, but something about it just strikes me as un-Simon.

-
Probably the fact that it still looks way too tranny/s&m. And wearing half a coat is ridiculous.
-
Yeah Kojima's style, while amazing in most areas, is just not very suitable for a male Belmont.

-
I think she has done a great job with all the Belmonts..Simon was not bad, but she could have done him much better!
-
Let me ask you all.
If Kojima's Simon Belmont looked like this...
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimageshack.us%2Fm%2F580%2F4497%2Fkevinbolkcaptainnsimonb.jpg&hash=0cca8d0f62ae20e12156fed09a930fa287d00ad8)
Would you regard him any better? same design, only more muscles and a square jaw.

You do have a point...I guess I'm just more used to the Conan-esque barbarian-style Simon (being a Conan fan myself). Kojima's style is delicate and beautiful, and this definitely works for the delicate characters like Alucard. I'm just more used to seeing Simon and Trevor in muscular forms, but I like both versions of Richter, Juste really does carry the air of a magic user as well as a vampire hunter, and I positively love Leon. I guess it has to do with the release timeframe.
Well, it's still ∞ times better than Judgment Simon. *shudder*
-
Judgement's designs are garbage.
The above is an improvement, but he's still wearing half a bloody coat. So no dice for me.
-
Maybe only his left side is cold.
Not ALL of Judgement's designs were bad. A few were neat.
Carmilla,
Dracula, (I thought it looked neat anyways)
Cornell...
and thats about it.
And I have to say Eric Lecarde, if ONLY because he has the most TAME design in the whole game.
-
I agree about Eric because of the age difference between that design and his other two.
I'll definitely give you Cornell, but not changing between human & wolf forms was a cop out, but that's besides the point.
Golem wasn't bad despite not technically being a golem.
-
Even then, funnily enough, neither of his outfits are like what people wore in the 1900's. Morris is ok, but his first outfit looks almost roman, (or at least something somewhat pretty old) and his second from Judgement looks more like 1800's or earlier.

I dunno guys, I am not hatin on his design. Remember Rondo had kinda of a cartoon/anime feel to it with it's character design. This design reminds me alot of Simon from CV Chronicles just drawn in that same style.
-
Actually it's supposed to be the chronicles design in an upgraded "Captain N: The Game Master" style. Captain N was a cartoon in the late 80's in case you were not aware.
-
That looks NOTHING like Rondo's anime style.
-
I know Captain N.

just longer legs and more slim feet..then this would be perfect!
-
Legs look too short to me actually.
Also, it's a chain whip, not a flail...

I still question why they had to make Eric a little boy. (Yes, I know, the whole time rift thing or whatever, but they're from all different time periods, so why couldn't he just get sucked in from the Bloodlines era?) Eric from Bloodlines is definitely BA.
I liked Carmilla's design as well. I thought Alucard's outfit was interesting, with the little angel on the back, but nothing beats the ornate jacket and the long blond hair.
That second piece of fanart is very nice, btw. The whip that came with the NECA figure of Simon looks more like a flail (again, I know, the figures are not perfect, but I loved the work on the Simon one) and the powerup is referred to as a "Morning Star" in the original manual IIRC.

Looks awesome but the pose seems off to me. Maybe you should put his rear leg back, and make the legs longer?

To me this pic of Simon is leaning towards the SD (Super Deformed) theme. Overall it's a good pic and not necessarily made to be exactly correct in all places. For instance Simon has a somewhat short Vampirekiller with an overly large mace-ball. This is but one of the many way you can tell if a pic is leaning towards the SD spectrum of art rather then focusing totally on the realistic spectrum.

cool pic of Trevor with similar design
