Title: Cox has officially lost a sale....(my theory about this DLC BS)
Post by: Vampire Killer on April 06, 2011, 08:00:44 PM
Just checked for Reverie on XBL again (for probably the 100th time) after not having checked for a few days, and of course, nothing.

There's been ample time for Cox to deliver on his promises. As a former QA for Sony, I can assure you that a "problem with XBL" as Cox has put it, would NOT cause this much of a delay.  I've seen lone programmers fix multiple online problems like the one that Cox and team is supposedly having, within hours. Not a team of programmers, just one. And not days or weeks, but HOURS.  So what's the real issue here? It's possible that Cox and team are simply just inept, but I highly doubt it.

I'm pretty much convinced at this point that the real reason we lowly 360 owners have not yet received Reverie is because Konami/MS has some sort of exclusivity agreement with Sony, made under the table which is being kept hush hush. Probably having to do with both DLC's, we 360 owners won't be able to play this either until the next DLC gets released, or perhaps even later (my guess is about 2 weeks or so after). Why keep it quiet? Perhaps Cox feels that less feathers will get ruffled that way, or maybe it's parts of the agreement.

Point being, I'd rather Cox be honest. Just tell us that we aren't getting a damn thing until Sony gets it first (and has it for a set period of time).

But since Cox refuses to be honest, I say F-U!!!!!

I WILL NOT PAY for either Reverie, or Resurrection.  If you're gonna refuse to be honest with your fans, I refuse to give you my money.  I'm going to youtube right after posting this, and just watching it on there, and I plan on doing the same for Resurrection. Problem with XBL my ass!!

F-U, be honest!!

Yep. Looking forward to playing the sequel, provided they fix some of the problems of the first one, but LoS was bloated enough as it is and I'm not really keen on adding more hours to it. Quantity != quality.

Well if by some chance that is true I think it's fair, Ps3 owners still have yet to get Harmony of Despair. Maybe it's an issue with Microsoft, not Mercury Steam. Anyways, Reverie is pretty great, so I hope you'll give it a chance regardless.

Spoilers maybe, except not really;

I have both a ps3 and a 360 but I still decided to check out a youtube vid instead. It was really nothing special to be honest. Mostly puzzles and no bosses. I mean, WTF? I do however have HIGH hopes for Resurrection. It should be kinda different from the rest of the game. Hopefully.

I bet that it isn't going to be different of the rest of the game, the DLC are part of the same game , it's just a new chapter, I don't think its smart to expect changes in the gameplay.

I only expecting Resurrecttion for the story.

I've been checking the Playstation store and I can't find it either. I think it's just a localization thing (you live in Europe as well, right?).

No, good ol' the U-S of A. Although the wifey and I have been seriously considering moving to Europe, for lifestyle reasons.

Really disappointed that it's taken so long for this to get up on Xbox Live, but at least it's given me time to go back and work on my 100% completion playthrough.

I wish they would stop adding onto an existing game and just make a brand new one.

DLC is now out on both formats in Europe... but I will wait for a discount like most other downloads I try out.

Just finished up Reverie last night.  I actually enjoyed it more than I expected to.  There was some missed opportunities in there though.  They're still pushing too many contrived puzzles into the mix.  I didn't mind the final 3 puzzles involving the blood of the 3 Lords of Shadow, but all the rest (including that infernal gear wall) should have been nixed in favor of more combat......or even a sub-boss fight of some sort.  Other than this, I loved playing as Laura (could have maybe a bit more time with her) and I liked the setup for the showdown with
(click to show/hide)
I even saw a glimpse of some more appropriate platforming in the Leviathon chamber.  Hope they continue that trend going forward.

I probably would have been a bit more put-off with the cliffhanger ending, but my previous exposure to info regarding this DLC on the internet softened the blow.  All in all I find this little episode added something to the LoS experience.  It probably could have been held over and added to Resurrection as a single episode, but I guess there were file size issues to address.

But yea, going forward, Mercurysteam.............more combat, less "on rails" platforming, and SIGNIFICANTLY less puzzles.  I don't mind puzzles being included when it comes to uncovering secrets within the game, but they should not cause the game to come to a screeching halt while you try to solve what equates to a board game puzzle. If one is going to to include this many they should be a lot more organic in their usage.

I really loved the blood puzzles they were great especially Zobeks. The wall puzzle was fun too, Especially when completing the challenge for it. I thought it was interesting that there was more puzzle than fighting, but I figure something like "now that the Lords of Shadow are gone, there are less monsters" type thing, but I was really hoping for a boss at the end.

I got it, after checking XBL for the 4000th time and realizing; yes it did indeed release finally.

Not worth 10$. Especially since most of it was just puzzles and saw-wall. 5$ maybe, but definitely not 10$. Especially since you don't even get a boss, but rather are teased to an awesome sounding boss fight. There aren't even any real cutscenes. Just crappy still frame images 'animated' like a cheap flash movie.

Resurrection doesn't even look like it'll pick up where the future scene left off anyway, but rather just lead up to it. It'll probably just have the hinted boss fight from DLC1, then a little story scene that leads up to the future scene and that's it. Expect a third overpriced DLC or a full sequel.

i 'member back in the pc days, ya know, mid-90's

they made stuff called expansion packs

they included more than a couple levels & had vast improvements to the gameplay, story, etc.

they were very cool & worth the money you spent on it

wtf happened?

We still get them, only instead of driving to the store to buy one, we download them.

Except modern DLC is halfassed (most of 'em anyway), and most of the time it's already available on the disc so you're just paying more to "unlock" content you already technically payed for.

Well, I might as well be honest and eat crow......

Yes, I finally gave in and bought it. Even after my fantasic rant about how I wouldn't. DAMMIT!

BUT I did it for two good reasons.

1) Even though I wrote that I was going to just watch the youtube vid of a playthrough, I never actually did.  I was busy working on a project that day, and when the next day rolled around, I just didn't care. Had more important thing to do/play/watch.  Eventually, Reverie released, and I realized (surprisingly) that I had never actually gotten around to watching it.  So much for my brash words.

2) The wife knew that I had really wanted it when it was supposed to be released, and she really wanted me to get it (I love my wife). We actually ended up playing through it together (she helped a lot w/ the puzzles, especially the first).

My review? I almost hate to say it, but I enjoyed it.  I agree w/ Renonsgoods, in that it added nicely to the LoS experience. But, IMO it's not worth $10.  Maybe $7, more likely $5.  If it had a boss fight or two (like a mini and main boss), I would feel differently.  But as it stands, $10 for what amounts to some cutscenes and way too much of the plank walking (WFT Cox, do you have a pirate fetish or something?) is too much. But considering their very limited budget, it doesn't surprise me.  Given more time, money and resorces, I believe Reverie would have been more grand, but perhaps not.

Aesthetically is was all around quite impressive. I especially loved the little details that were added (like the origin of the Leviathan spawn, and the unlockable artwork for Chapter XIII in the menu)

Ultimately, It is what it is.  And what it is, puzzles and planks and all, was enjoyable. It's not worth $10 though, unless you really loved LoS (I did, so for me it was worth it).  Therein lies the problem. The mistake Konami is making here is that they're pricing this DLC so that only those who really did love LoS are gong to buy.  Maybe that's exactly what Konami is counting on. Perhaps they're convinced that no matter what, only the uber fans are going to grab this anyway, so they priced it at the max (seriously, $1 more and I wouldn't have got it no matter what my wife said) figuring that the uber fans would buy it no matter what.

As for the cut scenes, I actually liked them. I thought that perhaps they would bother me not being in-game, but I enjoyed and admired the artwork.

Whatever the case, here's hoping that Resurrection is meatier in the length and content department (bow-chicka-bow-wow), as well as finishing up the current story leading into the next.
