I was getting some poronkäristys today when I served by a relatively young woman with a surprisingly present mustache. Do mustachioed women realize what they have? I wondered if it was a hip thing among today's European youth, or perhaps a sign of rebellion against gender conformity. I certainly felt bad for her.
A good friend of mine, Peklo, usually says "Tämä on niitä harvinaisia hetkiä, jolloin ei tiedä pitäisikö itkeä vai nauraa." So I guess we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but still. I don't get how they don't notice they have a 'stache.

This is a phenomenon that happens when a woman's estrogen level drops and the testosterone rises causing facial hair to grow. This was commonplace with the infamous bearded ladies.

Think of it this way: Women produce Estrogen. Men produce Testosterone. Both sexes can and have produced both, but one is naturally stronger in one member of the opposite sex then the other.

All I can say is: "Come again?"
But yes, it's all in the hormones, dude, hormones.
I do have to say is some people have to take care of their appearance if they are in the service industry where they have to see people.
-
It's usually commonplace among older, ugly women of non-European origin.
I've never seen a good-looking woman with a mustache. But then again, maybe it's because ugly women know they're ugly anyway, so they don't mind the mustache.
-
Or they just don't care enough to shave. :rolleyes:
-
Some women have horrible fashion sense, and/or are just lazy about their appearance.

poronkäristys = ? ? ? ?
"Tämä on niitä harvinaisia hetkiä, jolloin ei tiedä pitäisikö itkeä vai nauraa." = ? ? ? ? ? ? O_o;

It's Finnish.
He's basically saying he doesn't know whether to laugh or cry.
-
Are you finnish, Uzo? :o
-
No, he probably used a search/translator.
I was just hoping the OP would tell me what he said, actually. I didn't want to go looking for a (possibly inaccurate) translation.
-
That translation sounds about right.
If I saw a lady with a stache, I would say the same thing.
-
It's not nice to make fun of a lady with a mustache, go for the ones with a beard instead.

The bearded ladies tend to be burly though. Might get your ass kicked.
-
Not if you are fast on your feet.
-
They can't help having beardz ;_; Don't make fun of them for that ;_;
-
Speaking of women with beards, I actually served one at my old workplace, she had obvious stubs on her chin AND her upper lip.
She's a nice lady to me, but I really wished she could look after her appearance.
-
I know Peklo. Rumor has it he's a bearded lady himself.
-
A pointed out a girl's mustache to her in high school. ... I'll never do that again. So glad she didn't tell her b/f cuz he was bigger than me.
