From the description it sounds like they abandoned Anderson's ideas. Instead it looks to be an adaptation of the original Castlevania.
-
Looks like they'll be including Castlevania 2's storyline as well. I'm starting to look foreward to this movie now. Good post.

Looks really good a vast improvement over anderson's idea. :)

Hmm...i like it! Im not going to even question Christopher's name right now. I cant wait to see a nice trailer.
-
Thank GOD someone got it right...this has to be the first time in gaming history when an American movie company got the storyline of a game down to a T.
...I'm still keeping my sig, though.
-
It's still very vague & generic.. there's still a possibility that the plot could stray, but I think it'll turn out to be pretty good.
-
Seems like all of Anderson's schlock, like the Turks, a helpful (BUT IS HE?!)Dracula, and making Christopher Simon's brother and putting in some random guy named Bjork or something has been gratefully chucked away. There may be a speckle of hope.
Maybe.

If your sig were in the Castlevania movie, I'd pay $10 bucks to see it, over and over again. If they're going to make it awful, they might as well go the extra mile.
-
This idea is more true to original game than Anderson's story. I just hope they can pull it off. Don't want to hear anything like My Chemical Romance playing in the intro.
-
As far as the story goes, they will have to introduce some extra characters unless they decide the entire movie will be fighting. Or 20 minutes long...
Now one has to wonder. Will they follow the buff vampire hunters of yesteryears, or the new fancy suits of recent times? Either way it'll be interesting to see how these characters transfer to the big screen.
-
Nice.....now, it's time to wait...

Yeah, and thank god this movie is not likely to have the insides of a werewolf resemble cherry pie. lol

Actually, it seems to me like they are suggesting a sequel, that is the storyline of Simon's quest. If were lucky maybe they'll make a Drac's Curse movie to complete th NES trilogy. But, that is just what I hope for.
-
Oh thank the Gods... It sounds like they finally got it right!
-
Amen to that!, btw I love the shaft sig xD
-
If they make the movie like Beowulf, it'll kick ass.
BEOWULF! :O
-
I'm kinda afraid to see Beowulf...did they translate the epic poem well?
-
:3 I am appeased with this new development in the Castlevania movie. Now if they'd actually begin production....
-

My dad saw it and said it was good and that it was very close to the poem. :)

I'm going to risk being severely flamed here and say that I thought Anderson did a reasonably good job with the first two Resident Evil movies (I have not seen the third). Some things were changed, but let's keep in mind the video game movies we USED to have to endure like Super Mario Brothers. Anderson paid appropriate tribute, even lifting certain entire scenes from the game.
And then there's Uwe Boll, who the last I heard got a few laughs out of Hideo Kojima (and not in a positive way).

The new story sounds very nice.
Also i would like to ask you what you think about the spot where it say's about Dracula is putting a curse at simon. Does this mean that they are going to leave suspitions about a second castlevania movie who it will telling the story of Simon's quest?
-
I was so happy, then i read this "he price? The evil master places a curse of death upon Simon, which will lead him into a long and dangerous journey in the very near future."
What a shitty plot. There'll be a 20minutes prologue , then Simons gets teleported in 2007 and find chris tucker a NY nigga policeman who will help him to defeat dracula, what a shit.
I actually liked much the idea of the belmont clan leading the romanian army against turks and ending up in Castlevania, and then the horror begins.

That was my theory. But that would be cool, and only logical.

Beowulf was great. Please see it in Digital DLP 3D (at AMC Theatres in the USA) or in iMax 3D.
You will love it.

That just means that Simon is going to fight Drac again a couple years after 1691. You know like in Cv2? Where on earth did you get the 2007 garbage?

Indeed, I just saw Beowulf this afternoon in 3D at an AMC theatre. It's not a cinematic masterpiece, but it's quite an entertaining spectacle.
On the subject of the Castlevania movie, my bet is on the plots of Castlevania and Simon's Quest being merged together into one movie. That solves the problem of there being no real plot of any substance in the first Castlevania game on which to produce a two hour movie.
-
Interesting. It seems that every new bit of info raises the bar of hope just a little bit. However, one thing still worries me: the anime-feel garbage that was mentioned. I realize there is good anime out there, but coming from someone who's only major movie was one made solely for the idiot masses, I can't help but wonder what "anime-feel" means to him.
Otherwise, it is looking pretty good. Here's hoping they watch some Hammer films for reference, in terms of atmosphere and artistic direction. But that's just me.
-
Speaking of all this, I'm really excited to see how close it is to the actual game. For instance, what will they do about the part after Simon defeats the mummies and falls down that loooooooooooooooooooooong hole? Logically, in a real, non-animated movie, a person who did that would be a giant pile of mush resembling a smashed watermelon. How will they get around this (without skipping the scene altogether, cause I really want to see that) without making it seem easy?
-
If it's any where near as good as Beowulf turned out to be, I will be one incredibly happy man.
-

there's water at the bottom of that hole...

No, there was a hard, rock ground. Besides, it ould hurt to fall that long into water as well.
-
If it were like, a chute or something he'd probably wind up sliding.
It's Dracula's castle. He's bound to have traps like those.
-

It would make more sense if Dracula's castle had traps that made intruders go splat instead of "wheeeeeeee!"

Very near future o.O It scares me , this may either mean "a coulpe years after 1691" or actualy near future, 21st century, is not specified.I hope the first one.

Yeah, but I think of it like the second Harry Poter movie, when they slid down that chute to get to the Chamber of Secrets and landed in that pile of bones. I bet it will be something like that.
-

It OBVIOUSLY means after 1691 because they are talking about that period when they mention the very near future. They were not talking about 2007.

Good idea. Very good idea. Me want.
But generally, the original idea (the knights and the castle) would have been alright, but this is far, far better.
-
i really really want this movie to be good. castlevania is my favorite franchise of all time.. and if they can make a halfway decent transformers movie... even though micheal bay is the antichrist... they better be able to make a good castlevania movie! plus there was been no good vampires movies in the last 10 years in my opinion

That synopsis is apparently bs. Trevor will be the main character.
-
In Reply To #39
Trevor works too, so long as they make a good movie. Castlevania III has a lot more characters to work with from the game to create a movie that can round out a two hour runtime with dialogue and character development. Also, if the movie becomes a franchise success and merits sequels, it makes sense to start with the first battle against Dracula in the Castlevania chornology and let the sequels keep progressing the story forward in time instead of jumping back and forth.

Then why not start with LoI?
Or is this film (they keep talking about "the origins of Dracula") going to provide a new origin story that might clear up the whole Mathias argument (although I quite like the LoI story)?

Well Loi is really like an interactive movie in and of itself. I think they may be starting with Legend of Demon Castle because it is one of the most popular games as well as being the belmonts first battle with drac.
-
All this is a plot outline for the game. Who can really say if this is made for the film or not.
However, it wouldnt suprise me if it WERE the actualy plot of the film, due to the fact that P.W.S.A. said he wanted to crank out the script a week before the writers strike happened, and he's not very creative or original, so what better way to go then copying the formula?
Heres hoping.
-
This news is pretty strange, considering the fact that we are also getting a Dracula Curse animated movie. It's like, wow, two movies depicted the same game. Dracula's Curse was an awesome game, but I'm not sure dedicating two mediums to tell it's story would be such a smart move. Warren Ellis's project, I'm fine with. The Sylvain White movie(if in fact they ARE doing a Trevor film, since White and IGA have yet to state anything regarding the plot), could've benefitted from being based on a different game.

They said the Live action movie will be based on Simon. Not Trevor. I've never even heard any mention of Trevor being in a live action film

LOI presents the origins of Dracula, but Dracula's Curse presents the Belmonts' first actual battle against Dracula.

Well, that's pretty definitive evidence that the live action movie will be based on Dracula's Curse. Assuming the other heroes will be featured in the movie along with Trevor, I wonder how they'll choose to interpret Alucard's look and personality.
-
Well, if thats true, I'm still excited. Dracula's Curse is my favorite so it's cool. But I doubt it's anything set in stone yet. So, we'll just have to wait and see
-

No "official" press release from Konami as of yet, but IGA did give a nod to it(as one of the two film features, the other being the Anderson/White movie). And yeah, Ellis met with IGA regarding some of the story info. The whole thing has been in motion for a while, now, and Ellis finished the script(and before the Writers' Strike).

Ah yes, I got confused with which information was about what. Still, that article from BloodyDisgusting.com reports that the live action movie will follow Trevor and not Simon. With the slow pace at which this project is progressing, is a 2008 release for the movie unlikely?
-
It depends. I wonder how much effort they are going to spend on it. From being an avid fan of horror movies, many movies, depending on the scale of the project and the budget, can either take up to a almost half a year to film and are released around a year later, while lower budget films can be filmed and released in around that time(half a year). IMDB has 2009 as a release date, but IMDB is as reliable as Wikipedia. But 2009 seems like a reasonable date, if they plan of filming sometimes next year with a good sized budget. Then again, if they start filming soon, it could be out by the end of next year.
It's going to be strange having two takes of CV3(well, three takes if you include the game itself). I don't think any will come close to show the "adventure" as seen in the game itself, but I'd like to see how Trevor is depicted as by two writers like Ellis and Jeffers. And since the live action movie is, well, live action, I cringe to think what Alucard will look like. Will they try to pull the silver-haired SotN version? Or maybe they'll opt for the dark haired Alucard of CV3(Young Bela Lugosi). I just hope they don't go the Buffy The Vampire Slayer approach with all the young hotties. Castlevania, IMO, is sooooo above that tripe(I never cared for Buffy, and definately don't care for the stereotypical teenage-typed prettyboy/prettygirl characters). I don't want Dawson's Creek with vampires here.
-
Wow, this sounds pretty exciting. I love the story of Drac's Curse and two (possibly) movies based on it is cool. Maybe Konami will do something right and in tune with the times, meaning a remake of CV3 at the release of the movies?
-
Director Sylvain White is temporarily hanging up the whip until all of this WGA strike business is sorted out. Rogue Pictures has delayed White's Castlevania until the strike is over so - and I don't understand how anyone can get pissed about this - the script can be re-tooled and made screen ready. Principal photography was schedule to begin in April somewhere in South Africa.

Two years ago I joked:
"The movie will be set in present times.
The main bad guy will be an evil mad scientist, who is distantly related to Dracula.
The undead will be super clone mutants.
Vampire Killer will be an anti-mutant revolver with unlimited ammunition.
The Belmont (played by Christopher Lambert) will be a sturdy middle aged police lieutenant, who has to protect A.Lucard (played by Chris Rock), a gothic rap star, who is going to witness against "Dracula" and his evil corporation.
Soundtrack by Linkin Park & Evanescence".
But seriously, this latest script sounds better than anything so far.
-
LOL. I always hoped the CV movie would NEVER feature a song of Evanescence. Linkin Park either, urgh. I'd riot if they featured a My Chemical Romance song, as well.
-
Actually, in regards to the movie's music, if it is going to be about Simon, they'd be asses to not put an insanely good remake of Vampire Killer in there. I'd really like to hear music from the actual game, if you know what I mean.
-
Just as long as it's not shitty rap or other crap with lyrics like dracula perfect selection version of vk. :\
-
I cringe, though, cause almost ever video game to movie adaptation had a vocal song(at the very least, one). That makes my lunch rising in throat. That's why I'm sooo against Evanescence. Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Muse and other bands for such a project, though I have a strong pain in my stomach telling me that one of these bands will have a song featured in the movie(likely the ending credits) just for the sake of "reaching out to the teen gen with popular music".

*imagines a bunch of Skeletons in a CV movie musical sequence dancing in the forest to the Mad Forest arrangement on the Dracula Perfect Selection album*
