I've seen this idea expressed by several members across various threads. Figured I might try and give a home to this discussion, and see how many other people here would be interested...
For the unfamiliar, uninitiated or non-believers, they've made:
Contra 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei2RZ_UVkxA#)
^I thought this was great and the challenge was well designed. Being made by a western developer did not make it feel any less like a proper Contra title. It was absolutely the fourth Contra of the original series and was worthy of the name. :)
Shantae: Risky's Revenge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyJlQp-BjYk#)
^I haven't played this one, but it looks awesome and is one of the better DSiWare games apparently. It is the sequel to the GBC color Shantae, which is also met with lots of glowing reviews. It's a collector's item now, traditionally going for over $100 on ebay. :o
Bloodrayne: Betrayal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKAtcnDy0NY#ws)
^Soon to be out, and it shows off the potential for higher quality graphics.
Who else thinks Castlevania should be next on their list?
-
When you first said it, I was skeptical.
Now I think it should be.
-
I think it's kind of retarded that Konami has them working on a multiplayer Silent Hill, something the few fans left will never accept, instead of Castlevania, which would be awesome because that Bloodrayne trailer alone screams all sorts of love for it. They friggin love old school; all of their games practically bleed it.
Petition time? Might work.
-
Fun fact: Shantae was inspired by Castlevania 2 and Zelda 2.
-
As much as I love Wayforward the background art in that Bloodrayne game isn't exactly impressive
If Wayforward could create a Castlevania game with background art to rival Vanillaware I'd be pretty interested though, their character animation is already superb
-
I don't know. The BG art looks pretty good to me, and that's only one stage. Maybe reserve judgement until you see more? Just sayin'.
I think it fit the game's are style perfectly. Sometimes less is more.
And, anyway, I think they could make an epic 2d CV.
Konami is retarded to have them working on a 2d Silent Hill. That doesn't even make sense.
-
2d Silent Hill.

I actually sent an e-mail to John Beck at Wayforward today, asking him if they'd ever wanted to make a Castlevania game! He answered almost immediately, very briefly, but still:
"The thought has crossed our minds :-)"
Yes. A SMILEY. :D
I'm not surprised. Konami NEEDS to make this happen. Wayforward would definitely do it if asked to!
-
YES. PLEASE.
-
as long as ayami kojima makes the art, and hopefully perhaps yamane compose I could feel safe..
-
Count me in!! I loved contra 4! I want to see them produce a CV game worth relishing time and again :)
-
Absolutely! Konami NEEDS to have them do a a new 2D CV.
-
I agree
-
This is one of those instances where to not this would be just plain stupid on Konami's part.
Give WayForward the reins to make a classic 2D Castlevania (perhaps in a RoB stage progression, so that there are multiple paths), and sell it on XBLA and PSN for $15 (hell, I'd even pay $20), and it would print money.
-
WiiWare too, please. No. I don't care about the resolution loss. Just do it! >=P
I'd actually pay for a game for once under these circumstances..
-
seriously though, i've been eyeing these guys for a while. Other than vanillaware, i think they are one of the only companies who are still giving 2d action a good name. How do we make this happen
-
I don't see why not, Contra 4 kicked ass and Bloodrayne Betrayal is looking sweet. Im sure they would make a excellent Castlevania.

Wish upon a star.

Wish upon a star
Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight

Do you wish for a WayForward 2D Castlevania to be in sight?
-
I fully endorse this idea. Shantae and Shantae DS are extraordinarily exceptional games.
-
I think you miss the recent DS game Thor, God of Thunder (a cool-looking game), from WayForward, too.
Also, if I remember, for the Contra 4 game, they made a 20th anniversary game, isn´t? I like it a lot, with a museum: screenshots of ALL Contra games and commentaries from them, an interview, extra characters, a Contra III comic and the thing that I like it the most: Contra and Super C!!!!!!!!! Emulated from the NES, of course, but a really nice addition to the 20th anniversary game. Now that´s a real anniversary game, not like the Portrait of Ruin one (although, that box doesn´t come with a 20th anniversary tag). Imagine a new Castlevania for DS (or 3DS), with a museum, emulated games (maybe CVI, CVII, CVIII, SCVIV, Bloodlines and CDX), a music box, an interview with IGA (and maybe with Dave Cox :P), and maybe a 2 screen gameplay...
C´mon, if Konami´s president takes a few seconds to mention the 25th anniversary of Castlevania in the E3 pre-conference, there were a reason to do that. I really hope that Castlevania will have a worthy celebration this year :). Maybe we will have to wait until TGS...

I'd love to see Wayforward take a stab at a Castlevania game. I already said in another thread that Contra 4 was one of the best games I've ever played, and that's not an exaggeration. Played that one for a while, until I could finally beat it on Hard...probably one of the most rewarding feelings I've had playing a game in recent memory. You could tell the game was a labor of love, and the difficulty, controls, weapons, etc. were absolutely perfect.
If Wayforward could do that with Contra, I think they could make an excellent Castlevania game, without question.
-
Yeah, I said they should be handed the CV series back when Contra 4 came out. There were a lot of people saying that, IIRC. It would be phenomenal. I could be wrong on this, but I think the developers back then said that making a CV would be their dream job.
