I happened to be searching around for a better way to play rondo of blood than using that damn cd with an emulator, and I happened to find this:
Rondo of blood for PC: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X2P2ZS50 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X2P2ZS50)
It is literally an EXACT copy of the original game. According to the thread it just takes the original source for the game, compiles it in mednafen, and voila: instant rondo of blood, PC engine perfect for the PC. Here is a link to the thread: http://snesorama.us/board/showthread.php?t=20398&page=2 (http://snesorama.us/board/showthread.php?t=20398&page=2)
I just played thru the game: it is literally EXACTLY like the PC engine, except that the non cd music has it's volume equalized with the cd music, so it doesn't sound overly loud anymore. :D

Hoh-lee shit. Nice find, Esco. O:
Now I don't need to download a PCE emulator. Last one destroyed my comp.
-
I use Ootake to emulate that pc version of RoB and it works great.
-
I knew about this. Had the pleasure of trying it out too. Now what would be great is if we could hack in a proper stage 5' and maybe upgrade the non cd music. It's untranslated too, right? Not that there's much to translate.
-
Wow. Just played it, and its a flawless port of the game. It's quite amazing. I just beat the game (going the alternate path) as Maria (course, went through stage 2 to unlock her as Richter)
-
Yeah we've been known (the older members of the forum).
We even know the guy who helped create the executable. His name is Sliver-X. :)

This is not a port at all, it's just the entire ISO of Rondo+mednafen made into an executable form so that it would play as-is on any PC. It's basically the same imbNES (NES emulator for the PlayStation) does when you have only one game in the list and it boots as if no emulator is running in the background.
-
cool, maybe now I can play it my piece of junk Pc. It's been a long time since I played with Richter in this game, Maria sucks. Low endurance.
-
Recompiling the source? What source? The game is already compiled data. You don't leave source code on a sales copy, or any copy really.
All it is, is a self contained emulator and ISO. Nothing fancy, and as Jorge said super old news.

I call anything like ISOs, ROMs, etc. etc. a port. Cuz, that's kinda what it is. ^^
-
Except it ain't that.
-
I'm aware. ^^

I don't think it's nice to misinform others who might not know the difference, though. Bad form, Peter! ;)
A port has been designed, from a programming standpoint, to use the calls and programming of a foreign hardware than the one it was designed for. Things like porting the SNES FInal Fantasy IV to PSX.
Rondo of Blood for PC is an emulator with an ISO attached to it. It's just emulation. It's using PC hardware to try and perfectly emulate the PC-Engine SuperCD-ROM2 hardware architecture, through software. The ISO has never been 'ported'. Savvy?
You can call it whatever, but you would be wrong. And someone might listen to what you say and perpetuate the wrongness. It's better to be informed. :D
-
Alright. I'll call it emulation from now on. ^^
-
Wow, some of you guys sure like to nitpick shit that doesn't matter. Lol, don't you know that you are wasting good gaming time like that? ;D
-
I am wondering if you can do this method with any other PC Engine titles?
-
Yes, you can.
I also have Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou that way.

It's important to be well-informed. I can take time out of gaming to be as such.
Seems it is not important to you as much as gaming is. And that's fine too, I suppose....

IMO RoB is the hardest game to get to work on a PCE emulator because you need the disc or an image and CD tracks. Any other PCE game would not be worth having a standalone exe. By the way, I really like it. Especially the scanlines! :)
-
Using Ootake to emulate PCE game is a better way IMO.

Apparently you haven't played Valis 3 and 4...both are very good games and recommended to any CV fan IMHO :)

I wouldn't mind playing all four of those games on the same emulator as the PC RoB we're discussing. Can someone make them please? :'(

The person who emulated Dracula X also emulated all 4 of the Valis games! Here's the link for them. http://dreamworld.arc-nova.org/ (http://dreamworld.arc-nova.org/)

Is it just me or does Valis 1 on PCE CD look better than 2, 3, and 4?

That's because Valis 1 on the PCE CD was actually made around the same time as 4, hence the newer graphics.

Neflyte you've just made my day 8) By the way, is you're forum name taken from General Neflyte of the Dark Kingdom?

Yep, it most certainly is. ;D

Awww it's not Sailor Moon? Oh well... :P :P :P

The Dark Kingdom is from Sailor Moon :P Neflyte/Nephlite/Nephrite is one of the Shitennou/4 Generals

I only watched the USA version so I don't know the specifics. :P
-
Watch the Japanese versions. The story makes way more sense, the music is better and it comes off as being catered to a more teenaged audience rather then kids. There are also some episodes that were never ported to America due to censorship issues and such.

I have one for Rondo (have it two other ways in real life), Zero Wing PCE CD, Super Darius 2, and Gradius 2 (got the real thing of this one too). There's plenty of good stuff on the PCE CD that is worth doing this for, including Forgotten Worlds and Super Raiden. Also PCE emulation is not that hard, ISO's are quite easy to find, you just have to know where to look.
Edit: Someone mentioned the 4 Valis games, yes, so good that I downloaded and burned these bad boys to CD long ago.

Bad boys? *Ahem* Try bad girls 8)
-
I'd hardly call CD's girls heh, the series is all female heroines yes, but CD's ...... nah I'll still call them bad boys.
Also play the Ys games on PCE CD as well as the Valis games.
-
I've got Y's I & II plus Y's III for the PSP so I'm not hurting right now. But I am interested in Magical popful Mail ;D

Remember finding this a while back. So glad I did. trying to get it to work with an emulator was a nightmare.
