I have meen trying to make a homebrew game for a year, and I completely suck! I try, and try, only to fail miserably! It seams that all I can do is make alternated sprites, But I just can't program them right, even though I'v been shown how to do it! :( I just horribly suck! :'( I've been able to get my Characters to jump and walk, and finally got them to use a sub-weapon.(knife) But when they attack, THEY NEVER STOP!!! >:( :'( :'( They just stand there, attacking, and attacking, and attacking!(and that's with out a weapon. I never put the weapon in because I can't get them to do the motion just once and stop.) I never bothered to put in the the action for when they land after a long fall because I believe they'll just end up constainly doing squats. I desperately need a character programer! Not just for heroes, but for towns people and villians as well! He/she will be well spoken of. and I will give him/her all the credit for the the character programing. I will see that their reputation soars! Please, if any body is interested in helping me out, please send me a full gamemaker file containing a comlplete program of Richter, from U.S.A's Symphony, including Item Crashes and that kick combo that he wasn't given in the game, and a program of him from portait. (I don't know if I want the hero of this game to do the back flip, or the summersault. So, I need both.) I will work with who ever sends me these files, whether it's just one, or even two people. I will work with them both on this game, And this is just the tip of the Iceburg! I intend to put about 10 playable characters in this game and a hand full of NPCs to give them assistance in battle. There will be both classic, and forgotten characters, as well new ones I have made up by myself, or have been inspired to make. Each with there own stories. As fellow fans, please help me.
P.S. To make sure there are no mistakes, I want Richter to be able to do the slide kick, blade rush, and roll as well. I shall require whip enhancements and items such as hearts and life as well. If you have to use my email, it's Burnning_in_the_water@yahoo.com
My sprites may be alternated, but their still impresive. I am Splicing the Succubus from Symphony with Carmilla from Rondo, to make a female character That won't have any of their movements! In fact, she's going to be more like a ninja, using speed, gyminastics, and knives!

so basically, you are asking us to make the game for you?
-
your best bet it super vampire killer and a old gamemaker5.
ppl are not going to make your game for you sorry.
you might do better finding a programmer if you show some bad ass sprites and backgrounds you made.
a good story for your game might get someone into it too.
other wise i think most ppl will not give you the time of day.
i think when i get all my stuff for my game i might save up some money and pay a programmer to make me a engine.
wish i knew how much it cost tho.lol
but you need to do alot more than wine about you can't get it to work to get one.
because ppl who do sprites edits and have a story for a game are everywhere with there games wanting just what you want.
but programmer's are rare indeed :-\
so do more to try to win a programmer over than demand a bunch of useless shit ::)
if a guy did do what you asked then what?
attacking stuff is easy compared to other things that you'll need after that.
what i say you should do is plan it out make a shit load of stuff like stages and sprites that kick ass then go and post it around on boards asking for help.
maybe the eye candy might get you a programmer after all you can't catch a fish without the damn worm ;)
well good luck anyway

well there's another method too, you could become a programmer but that takes lots of college, but it depends on how bad you want the game to get done. ;)
-

Not necessarily, but yeah it does take a lot of time & effort. Not knowing what program you're using exactly it sounds to me like you have the attacking animation set to always loop. With MMF it's as easy as unchecking a little box for that particular animation to get it to stop after playing through one time (like swinging a sword from start to finish once).
The good news is that if you are able to draw some good pictures and sprites there are loads of people out there who can't draw that will probably help you out somehow. Good luck!

It depends exactly what type of programming and what field your going into, a friend of a friend of mine does it for a living and had to go to school. You don't have to go to school but it does make things easier. My above post was mainly a joke, cuz people were saying programmers are in short supply, :)
-
so basically, you are asking us to make the game for you?
No, I'm not. I just asking for a Richter's movement program, so I can use it as A skeleton base for the movement of my hereos, so they'll stop their mindless and uncontolable attacking. I can program in walking, jumping, and crouching, just fine. I'm also pretty good at tile ripping. All I really need is a program for the whip attack, landing after a long fall, the back flip, the roll, the slide and slide-kick, the double jump, kick combo, and the Item Crashes. I don't even intend to put Richter in the game. It'll be some one else! Again, I intend to put about 10 Playable characters in my game... Two of them vampires, one of them a werewolf, two of them zombies(and I dont meen those weaklings that we're all familiar with. these are a completely whole different kind of breed. Strong, durible, inteligent, and posessing wils of thier own.) Five of them belmont's(some offical, and some made up, one on other something completely different, but powerful none the less. About half of them will be unlockable.

why don't you just learn how to do it yourself?
And someone else can handle the reast of the stuff
Castlevania Dungeon members are not your personal game making slaves.

2. I never said that they were! Quit accusing me of being like that. You need to pa atention to the WHOLE sentence, not just a part of it. I said "I am attempting to gather an entire crew for this I'll handle tile ripping, story line, and character creation(Their programming however, will be credited to whoever helps me with what I'm asking, because it won't even happen without them.), someone else can handle, map and stage design,(I entend to make it kind of a cross between Simon's Quest and Dracula's Curse in game play, to where each character travels around to, through, and sometimes even back through different places according to their stories, and depending on if their hunting someone, running from someone, changing their course to defend a town, ect.) someone else can handle weapon stocks, HP, MP, XP, and level ups. Some else can handle the NPC and enemy programming, and locations.(I'll design the enemies though. No zombies, or bats. I'm puting tougher enemies, like werewolves or lesser vampires in place of them. I'll also test out the stages and give final say over enemy locations because some locations can give an enemy TOO MUCH of an advantage over the players.) And someone else can handle the reast of the stuff, such as scenes, and multiple choice events.(For anstance some of the playable characters are actually villians and I intend to put in a boss fight were one of them fights a belmont. He's not the current Vampire Killer, only a hunter. After you beat him, he fallsto his knees and you're given a choice because the current Vampire Killer is closing in on you: Kill him and risk getting whipped by the Vampire Killer, or spare the Belmont's life and flee unscathed. You can still kill him and get away unscathed, but it'd difficult, and if you get whipped, you begin the next stage in a weakened state... Half life maybe...)" I am looking for EQUAL PARTNERS.
1. The backflip look's too complicated, so I need to see how to do it. As for the other stuff, I already tried to do it on my own. I failed time after time. So I started asking people hoew to do it a year ago. All that got me is learning how to get them to jump. So I have come to the conclusion that I need to se the programs from Castlevania type games. Not games were your a marble in a maze, or you climb vines and shoot things with a gun. I NEED TO SEE RICHTER IN ACTOIN AND SEE HOW HE DOES IT. IT'S THE ONLY WAY. If I try to do it my self through trial and error, it'll take years! I need what I'm asking for, so I can look at it AND LEARN FROM IT. It will enable the characters to do combos, gymnastics, and perform POWERFUL attacks. All I'm asking for compared to an entire game is just a little bread crumb. A single seed from an entire sunflower. Just one full Gamemaker movement program for an ultimate Richter. Will be enough for a basis for TEN CHARACTERS! And they all won't just be walking slowly, swinging a whip. Some will be Fast and light, some will be slow and heavy, some durable while others are weak, some able to change form or fly, and an asortment of weapons as long as your arm. And all I need to get this started is just one little thing. Just give me this one little thing, AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I'M TRUELY OFFERING.

I am using Gamemaker, and yeah, believe that you are right. The animations ar looping, And I don't know how to get them to stop. If I did, I would already be in Phase 2. What is MMF?

MMF= multimedia fusion.

In Gamedev.net, every couple of days, some naive, young kid makes a thread asking help to build his MMORPG that will leave World of Warcraft in the dust. This kid's "talent" is that he has written many pages of story and designed enemies and characters (which more often than not are rip-offs from other games). Then, he somehow gets the nerve to ask everyone to code his entire game, paint all his art, model all his characters and compose all his music. People try to reason with the kid and tell him that what he is over his head and that no one will build his game for them, but he continues to babble on and demand cooperation, and resorts to being very annoying by doing stuff like writing in full caps and double, triple and even quadruple posting. His rating plummets, and nothing comes out of it except for wasted time.
Alternatively, some people make threads asking people to help them with their game. These people then show programs, art, etc that they have made in the past. People see their work, and if impressed might decide to help them out.
What is the lesson here? No one is going to help you if you have no skills or talent at all. You can't seriously expect anonymous, random people to work under someone and follow their ideas when they don't contribute anything at all. I am sorry, but splicing sprites is not something that is going to get people to make your game for you.
You say you want people to be equal to you, but clearly the workload is not equal at all. You can't seriously compare programming a game, composing the music, drawing the art to story line and character development. Everyone has storyline and character ideas, its not a unique talent and you aren't necessarily better than anyone at it.
And it doesn't help your cause that you are whining so much that you can't get gamemaker to work the way you want it to. You are doing very basic stuff, I am sure if you took the time to read some of th documentation you'd have no trouble getting what you want done. It's not exactly rocket science.
So, stop your bitching and get good at something, then ask for some help!

What's that? Is it another program for making games?
-
It would help if you actually showed what you're capable of. So far it's all words of promises and no proofs of them.
Also use some more line breaks, your posts are hard to follow when it's all huge walls of text. :P

Why don't you start out with something more easy, like modding ROM's? With all of the game-specific editors available for NES Castlevania you could probably create a more competent and worthy playing experience than trying to develop an original game, becoming overwhelmed, and giving up.
Baby steps.

I agree, start out simple and work your way up , can't master calculus if you haven't grasp basic math. :)

Ok...
1. I am not whining. I may have whined a little at the start, but that was because my frustration with my programing. I a however, getting sick of people only reading bits and pieces of what I post, instead of the whole thing. Now, that's annoying! I even made a list of parts for people that was as equal as I could figure out. Also, I am modeling my own characters, not asking someone else to do it. I also already said that some of them are classic, or forgotten. I'm not takeing credit for those. I also forgot to mention music, because I was going to do that myself. I think I can also handle mapping and stage creation my self. The list I made is for Phase 2, and only if there is that many people that wnt to help. I'm still in Phase 1, where I work by my self. I'm just asking for 1 little piece of programming, for me to compare and learn from. I'll get by just fine with only one other person to help me and give me pointers. As for that rip-off remark, all of the homebrew games made here on the forum are rip-offs... Castlevaina rip-offs.
2.I already asked what kind of sprites and art people would want to see. Nobody has answered yet.
3.I may be splicing sprites, but let's see you make sprites from scratch. using nothing but pxels with no referance what so ever. I never seaid that was all I would do. I said I would handle character creation(that includes sprite developement, movement, speed, and attacks), Story(that includes the beginning, character intos, events, character dialoge, character developement, and endings) and the tiles, but I also meant that I would handle the music too. And that's if somebody else dosen't want to handle the map and stage creations. Also I never said that I was better at anything. You are completely misjudgeing me.
4.Do you even own Gamemaker? If you do, than why don't you just tell me how to get the animations to stop looping and shut me up? Ive'read the instuctions and all they do is tell me how to make a ball bounce. It doesn't tell me anything about how to make a guy run around and swing a sword, or anything like that. Castlevania is copletely differant than that. I'm just asking for one little program to look at. Not a whole game. And I'm only asking, because nobody will bother to tell me what I'm doing wrong. What is wrong with you people? You act like a person has to practically be born knowing this stuff, or you won't even give him the time of day. If I had such a program, or knowlege, I'd give it. Expecially if it was the program. It would be quicker for both of us. I've posted a program before. It was the one I'm asking for help on. I'm just asking for one little bone to be tossed to me. ether in the form of a program, or instruction.
5. The only one bitching here is you, with your accusations.
-

Hey, Lady! How are you? It's good hear from you again! :)
More breaks huh? How's this?
Anway, you told me that you can't see my stuff, because you either don't have, or can't use Gamemaker.

What's modding ROM's?
ROM-hacking. I used to do it all the time before I made the transistion to game dev. I would take NES Castlevania and change its graphics, levels -- almost creating an entirely new game.
Used to we did everything by Hex. Now there are game specific editors available that will allow you to rearrange the stages and change the graphics with the greatest of ease. No technical knowledge whatsoever is required to make significant changes to the game.
Google around until you find some resources.

Interesting... I'm after 16, to 32 bit graphics. do you have any suggestions?
I don't like Iga either. I feel that he butchers every Castlevania game he hasn't made.
I just recently got the Dracula X Chronicles and found out that he made Maria more timid!
Made it so she got kidnaped along with her sister, Annete!
That's not how it happened! Maria stormed castlevania to try to save her sister, and then got captured.
That's how it really happend, not that bulls**t that Iga put in.
PM me if you want to discuss more.
-
i get the feeling that if someone made an engine for you that you would leave and never be heard from for several months.
I may be splicing sprites, but let's see you make sprites from scratch.

Maria is NOT Annette's sister. Iga himself said they're not related in either rondo or dxc, and that it was dxx's fault everyone thought they were. :o
And yes, I can't use game maker. The games made with it crash instantly. I meant more of your sprites, artwork, stories, whatever you wanted to contribute to this project.
-
Just give me this one little thing, AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I'M TRUELY OFFERING
Yes but what you're asking is no little thing. Just look at all the moves you want your protagonist to have alone. That's straight up months and months of hard work for somebody. Who is going to want to attempt to do all that and put themselves through all the rigor when they're not even emotionally attached to the project in the first place?
You have to REALLY want to make a game in order to stick with it through thick and thin. This is hard work afterall.
-
Sorry for the double post, but I would probably also say that he should also be using the time he could be ROM-hacking learning how to either use his GameMaker better or learn a progamming language.
It's more rewarding in the end IMO.
-
All arguing aside, GameMaker isn't that bad. It's just not that good, either. It's a good place to learn if you don't really know anything about programming, etc. And to learn how to use it, the best thing you can do is to to their forums and use the search extensively.
Maybe you should start with a basic platform engine that's already made, and move on from there to make it your own (giving credit, of course). That's how I did it.
-

1.If an "engine" is what you really call what i'm asking for, then yes.
And when I returned I would be offering hard and valid and usable characters that everybody can apreaciate, credit them to whoever gave me the engine, and ask people to join me in Phase 2.
2. I'm not even going to bother with trying to make sprites from scratch.
If you did, you would probibly have to go through months, or even years of trial and error, before you can get a fully funtionable character.
Thats why people rip sprites for games.
My point is that hardly any of us, if any of us at all, make their sprites from scrach.
That would take real talent.
And whoever can do that, I applaud and admire you. that is a real gift.
Don't look down on me, just because I splice sprites, while most people just use sprites that were already riped.
3.As things stand right now, I don't believe I can.
I need to learn first and that's why I'm here, asking for help.
I need some body to tell me why my animations are looping, and how to stop it, and how to program the backflip, kick combo, item crash, and whip brandish, either through example, or instruction.
The slide kick should also be able to give me a good idea on how to program combos. The Backflip too, now that I think about it... So, I guess I don't really need the slide kick.
As I said, I am still on phase 1. Phase 1 is where I make the characters so I can post them and get help with the rest of the game, going on to Phase 2.
But first I have to make them presentable and without flaws.
So, I've come here to ask for help in that department.
None of us are born knowing this kind of stuff. Somebody has to teach us.
That's all I'm really asking for. Just give me a chance. That's all I'm asking.
-

Do the sprites have to be mobile? Or can I just post the sprite sheets?

What? really?
I just thought that someone would already have it.
Just take it from a game that they had already made, like Super Vampire Killer, or something.
Just a simple cut, paste, and send.
Now I see why every body is so reluctant to help me.
Can somebody then just tell me how to get my animations to stop looping, and tell me how to program a two step ability, such as the slide kick, or sub- weapon throw?
-

That sounds like it would work too. I would like to use Super Vampire Killer. Expecially since that's the game that insired me into attempting this.
-
Just sheets are fine enough.
Also there are people who make their own sheets from scratch. I do those. Sonic Reaper does too (I think he even gets paid for that). Thaddeus too I think.
-

1. I haven't used GameMaker in 5 years, and I only used it for a month or two. I don't know but I am sure if you ask for help in their forums or read the documentation you will find out. I'd say stick with it because you aren't going to find anything much easier to make a game with.
2. I am not sure what you mean by two step ability, but to do a slide kick you give your character an initial velocity and decelerate him every frame until his velocity falls to 0. You probably will also want to change the collision mask to something more appropriate for the sliding sprite.
3. For subweapons, you need to create a seperate object for them, where within you'll code their logic. Then, on the character object, you "activate" a subweapon object whenever you press the subweapon launch button (though you'll probably want to add a check before that, to make sure that the subweapon isn't already activated). When the subweapon is active, you update it's logic. You will want to disactivate it after it leaves the screen, certain amount of time has passed, or it has collided with an enemy.
4. Those game development programs have heaps of tutorials, and a ton of documentation. They also have very active forums. I don't know why I am telling you this, since it's so goddamn obvious, but I am sure you'll find answers really quickly in the program docs and tutes, or asking in their boards. You aren't going to find much help in a Castlevania message board for game development.

why don't you just use gamemaker 5 an older ver of gamemaker that will open supervampirekiller.
not that hard imo to think of that way you have an engine and just add you stuff to it.
-
I started years ago on my current project with omegasigma.I think it was 3 or even 4 years ago when I started. The reason I still work on it? I just love it, I can't get away from it even if I would want to. Now that I've gotten where I am I still need a few chackles unleashed and all that is left for me is to line up the stages and script the bosses. Trust me, a homebrew takes ages to make from scratch.
-
BW, i'll tell you what.
send me what you have so far, and i'll try and get the attack anim to stop looping.

I have gamemaker 7! :o Shouldn't that work also???

No. 7 changed and added a lot of shit most things programmed in GM6 wont even work with GM7 and damn near nothin made with GM5 works with GM6... so no.

Great... Where can I get 5?

Will I have to send you the entire game program? Or can I just send you a character demo i created in the past, where you just click on the icon and the demo starts?

you can send me the file mentioned in the first post with attack loop problems, although i won't be able to do anything until at least march. i won't have access to gamemaker until then.

Still here and still need help. I havn't forgoten this place. I've just been busy. Talk to you people later.

almost forgot about this thread :/
just PM/post it when you're ready.

someone offers to help and they ask for the character demo gml around January so he can help.
and now its may ::)
looks like to me somebody don't want any help good god,oh well who cares i just find it disrespectful to ask for help and then take your sweet time giving him the thing he needs to help.lol
its not like anyone cares to take the POS gml being its worthless in the first places :P
lot better ones out there to take if you wanted to do such a thing.
if i was him i'd just download one of them demos that ppl make just for this kinda thing on the gamemaker forums and give them credit for copying there stuff problem fixed.
well maybe i'm being to hard on him, but he said he had the demo in January so you know :P

I am so far behind... I'm sorry. I really have been working on it, but not as much as I would like. I keep getting dlays. It's a bad time for me... But I am still working on it. I'll try to get it here, soon. Thank you for being so patient, King Metroid.

Man, I REALLY SUCK at this... Sorry, I've ben busy and distracted and forgot where i was at on this project, but not the projuct. I'm just going to gather sprites from Richter's sheet and send it to king metroid. Hopfully, I'll get it done, this year.

That wasn't my fault. And, I'm still working hard on it.

I have meen trying to make a homebrew game for a year
2007? You must be part of the Duke Nukem forever Dev team.

The difference is Duke Nukem Forever will actually come out, and this wont.

No I'm not... I'm still working on this, but I've been having set backs. My security sestem is on the fritz and My whole fucking family keeps insiting that only I do the damn dishes, which really takes away frome my free time. On top of that, I have other obligations... But you gotta tak into acount that I've been comming back for three years, that I'm totally serious on doing this. I just need more time. is all. Once I get the sprits strung together and get help from King Metroid, I'll be abel to copy the exact behavior programs and apply them to all the other characers and Then I'll just need the levels and enemies... And some more story... mabe some maps. But just completeing the characters will be a HUGE step.

You STILL haven't completed any characters or fixed the problem you have?
EDIT:
I may be splicing sprites, but let's see you make sprites from scratch. using nothing but pxels with no referance what so ever.
Sure. Heres one I did a few weeks ago.

Its not hard. No, you can't use it.
Are you still using Game Maker? Have you still gotten no where??

Yeah. Washing dishes is so hard. It takes all day. I don't have any time to do anything else.

I live with a famly with five that have often already had breakfast, and are already going on to lunch, by the time I wake up. and ontop of that, they snack.
anyway, i'm about halfway done, now.

Wow. Nice job. Is it ok if I asky later for help his the more difficult sprite animations? There is this one character in particular who is supposed to be much like a ninja. She'll be fast, agile, and will attack with two knives. When she gets hit, she won't be knocked back and be stunned lick most of the other characters, but will insted flip back and quickly recover and even be able to escape falling in holes.

Alright, this has gone on long enough.
Burning Water, this thread is seriously a joke to you, isn't it? Either you're actually full of bad luck or you're a troll who can't stand it when people don't pay attention to his threads, and that's why you're constantly thread-necromancing them only to tell us the same thing every time.
