$170. That's a whole $80 shaved off the system. As an early adopter, I was kind of pissed when I read about the price drop. Then I learned that I and everyone else who bought it before Aug. 12 will be getting 10 free NES titles and 10 free GBA titles. That'll ameliorate the burn I feel in my wallet, to a degree.
Looks like Nintendo went into damage control mode (something that may not be a good sign for the company). Afterall, when your system's out for five months and you only sell 830,000 worldwide, that's a problem. If you're Nintendo, that could be a really, really big problem. I can't remember the last time Nintendo dropped the price this early...sans the Virtual Boy?
:(
-
That was quick.
:O
I still probably won't be buying one for another year or so, however.
-
Ive wanted one since launch but wanted to wait for more games and for a price drop. Price drop came first so I'll probably be getting one in the next few weeks. Pretty awesome
-
NOW it has appeal. Seriously, it was fucking overpriced, and it was not because of Vita being priced at the same, but because it costs $103 to make one 3DS.
Now they just need games. And no, not the ones I've played 10 years ago (I'm looking at you Zelda). New IPs and new games from existing IPs.
-
Most new technologies are overpriced when they first hit the markets.
-
Wow that was indeed a pretty fast price drop.
I probably still will not be getting one however until I can find one for $150.
Also I am waiting for the new Resident Evil Revelations game to come out before getting it.
-
SON OF A BITCH! I just got one a few days ago! >:(
EDIT: Oh hey, free games...
-
I think that the time for me to get one, is near...........
-
No it is also a good thing for Nintendo, it means they realized a mistake they made with the launch and are now trying to fix it as best they can. This also will bring a huge surge of not only consumer interest but developer interest too which is good whether they had a bad run or not. I also hear word that people who bought the 3DS will receive 10 free nes games and 10 free gba games. Its kinda like what they did with TF2 when that became free, they made everyone who bought it platnium members so they get added benefits.
-
Drop it to $125 in a year, get more 3rd party support, and then I might get it. (If I have the money)
-
I'll be getting one very soon, that's a $90 price drop!
-
I read over on magic box that the price drop is only confimed for Japan at the moment. They also reported that nintendo's projected revenue for last quarter was a whopping 85% below expected. I'm betting the steep price of the 3DS and the earthquake are largely to blame for this. Has anyone got any word on the price drop happening over on our side of the pond? I definitely want one especially since I found out that my favorite back up device already runs on it.
-
I would think since Nintendo of America posted in the link provided above that there will be a price drop on August 12th that it's confirmed here also. :p

totally agree with that. look at sony and the hacking thing. all u got was 2 games of 5 and 1 month plus member. i mean, who the hell needs becoming a plus member for a month?
Thats what i call customer support. wont buy a 3ds. cant handle the 3d effect lol but ya, nice idea of nintendo.

It has a lot of third party support, didn't you see the confrence before the recent one or hell the recent one? They have a lot more third party support than ever. TGS should show some more games for the system, just you wait. I am waiting for some jrpgs.
-
Yeah, but they all come out in the fall.
What's coming out for it THIS month? ???
-
All that matters is Luigi's Mansion 2. REC-OG-NIZE!
As such, I'll be waiting till that game comes out to buy a 3DS. Maybe by then or near to then, a second model will be announced, one with non-shitty battery life. And maybe by then we'll find out whether the 3DS fucks up people's eyes or not, heh.
-

Luigi's Mansion... I remember that game. Second best game on Gamecube in my opinion (RE4 will always be #1 to me). I was excited to find out they're making a sequel. Hope it has the same kinda creepy feel to it as the first game. There were parts in the first game that were actually kinda scary.
What about Super Mario? You know, the one where Mario looks like a motherf**kin' creeper in the Tanooki suit? That looks beast as hell.
-
Super Mario 3D Land I believe they're calling it now. Looks all right. All of the current first-party 3DS games look all right, but not really anything I'm in a rush to pick up a 3DS and play.

Nyko pretty much has the battery life thing covered right now and Nintendo is heavily supporting it so I doubt that will happen any time soon.
-
Didn't know Nyko had done their own battery. That makes me a bit more optimistic.
-
Why didn't they just call it Super Mario Land 3D? As a reference to it being 3D and it could also be taken as Super Mario Land 3? (or was there already one? Not to my knowledge, but...)

I believe Super Mario Land 3 is the first Wario Land game, but that would be cool if they used the "land" title
-

Indeed. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 is the full title (though the title and subtitle are swapped in Japan).
And I believe the emphasis is "3D Land," as in a land that's 3D, while at the same time alluding to the Super Mario Land games.
Either way, I like it. Putting "3D" just before the end and not at the very end breaks the chain of shit that will inevitably have "3D" or "3DS" tacked on at the end like with "64" and "DS."
-
Another problem with swapping "Land" and "3D" would be confusing people in thinking that SM3DL is a remake of the first Super Mario Land (which, as far as I know, is not the case).
-
The Mario series never ceases to amuse me when it names it's games...

It's definitely not, as cool as that would be. Super Mario Land is one of the best games I've ever played. ^.^
Well, it's kinda like what Metal Gear's doing. Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater.
...
...
That's the title, right? o.o;
-
More Like Super Takuni's Return 3d!
-
Awesome, glad I waited I suppose!
-
I kinda want a 3DS, but I don't know what to play on it. But yeah, Super Mario is a must for me, so I'll probably be getting it then. Other than that, I dunno... Shinobi could be good, I guess. Also; Contra.
Oh, and Castlevania, if there ever is one.
I wonder when the price will drop in Europe though.
-
Walmart already has these puppies available at the new price. I wonder if I buy one before Friday if I can sign up for the Ambassador program and get the 20 free games? I don't know how they'd be able to restrict me unless they have a list of all the serial numbers for 3DSes sold earlier than this week and prevent newer ones from being registered for the program.
-
oh yeah thats this week! I might get one friday
-
Here's how to sell a 3DS to me;
KLONOA.
Yes, what happened to him? The Wii remake was excellent but the best game in the series is arguably Klonoa 2. If there was a 3DS remake I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Or even better; KLONOA 3 :D
SUIKODEN (possibly 6)
Konami doesn't seem to give a crap about Suikoden anymore (much like their other franchises) so I'm not holding my breath for this one.
KIRBY
I don't remember if there's a Kirby coming out for the 3DS? That new Kirby on the regular DS looks odd. I'm not liking what I see so far.
ZELDA
I'm kinda sick of Zelda right now, especially since the DS outings were so boring IMO. Spirit Tracks was a bit better than Phantom Hourglass, but I want Nintendo to do something new with the franchise. Still, I buy every damn Zelda ever made.
CASTLEVANIA
Duh.
SHINING FORCE
A remake of Shining Force 3 with all three scenarios. Make it happen.
-

Try gettin' one sooner than Friday, d00d. Ambassador Program! Twenty free games! ;D Deadline is Thursday, 11:59 p.m. ET. Just gotta sign into the eShop, far as I know.
I went and picked one up. Sez I'm qualified for the Ambassador goodies, just gotta wait for further info. Gonna order Ocarina of Time 3D from Amazon. Pretty excited for some of the future games comin' out, like Resident Evil: Revelations and Luigi's Mansion 2. Gonna be booooomb.
That new Kirby on the regular DS looks odd. I'm not liking what I see so far.
Which one? To my knowledge, there hasn't been a DS Kirby game since Kirby Super Star Ultra came out a few years ago.
BBL GAIZ GONNA GO BEAT OFF TO BLAXPLOITATION BEWBZ ON NETFLIX 3DS PAM GRIER FTW
-

There's a new Kirby called "Kirby Mass Attack" coming out for the DS. It looks strange. You control 10 Kirbys at all times. Check it out on Gametrailers or something.
-
Looks kinda fun. :o Doesn't look anymore weird than Canvas Curse, which I enjoyed to some degree.
But the upcoming Wii game is certainly what I'll be all over.
-
3DS and 3 more Castlevania Handhelds.
Dont believe me? Look at the history.
GB- 3 titles
GBA - 3 Titles
DS - 3 Titles
-
My D-pad squeaks.
;_;
-
LOL Squeak Squad? xD
-
technically there were 4 releases for gb/a if you include Kid Dracula & the HoD/AoS Double Pack
-
5 if you count "Classic" Castlevania on GBA.
-
Squeak Squad was - omg - MOUSE ATTACK! in Europe. I need to play that game someday. It's super hard to find though.
Also, I would like to see more 3DS sales before I start expecting 3 Castlevanias for it... 1 or possibly 2, yes... but if the damn thing doesn't sell it's not gonna last as long as Nintendos previous handhelds.
-
Uh-oh. I might not get the 20 free games after all. Before, Nintendo simply said, "Log on to the eShop before this date and you're in!" Now, they're saying they'll be setting up a site for you to enter in your serial number to determine whether you're eligible. Hmm... Can they somehow know which units were sold when? I don't really know how they could unless there's unique info in each barcode, or they made a major difference in the serial numbers for units shipped out for the price change, but that doesn't really mean much if stores are simply selling units with older serials and not getting new stock.

Konami doesn't seem to give a crap about Suikoden anymore (much like their other franchises) so I'm not holding my breath for this one.
pff.... BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. Suikoden? You kidding? They abandoned it a long time ago, and even if they did make another, it will probably suck. They just don't know how to make a good suikoden anymore. I hear 5 is good but it couldn't draw me in, 4 was half past okay, going the opposite way and 3 sucked.
