Title: Double Dragon II on Xbox and PSN (remake 3d)
Post by: OdenAndEvil on July 29, 2011, 11:23:35 AM
In September, namely the developers bring us a 3D remake of Double Dragon II: The Revenge of the original and true arcade machine version.

Under the title Double Dragon II: Walking the Dragons of the remake of the old Technos Japan Corp. Beat'em'Up is now reissued.

As Co-Optimus.com reported the game will take over much of the machine version, of course, the two dragon brothers Billy and Jimmy, and their old enemies and weapons. However, will be completely new style of graphics and the combo system is more modern, but without sacrificing the famous moves like the Cyclone Kick. A few levels and elements have made it out of the ultra-successful NES version also in the remake, such as the giant helicopter level.

1200 Microsoft Points must be set for the virtual arcade titles to the counter, but then there is next to the classic story mode with the 2-player co-op option, including a 4-player Versus mode and survival mode . However, the developers until now neither an online mode confirmed, nor have they denied it.

This sounds cool. I never played the arcade original, but the NES version was one of me and my brothers favorite games to play together. Hopefully this is fun, though I doubt I can ever recapture the magic of playing years ago. I really wish we could get HD 2D games though.

I'm gonna buy it. I'm a pretty big Double Dragon fan, especially of the first arcade game. I could go on and on about what made that game so great.

I was excited for this until I saw the new gameplay video. The characters look like they were taken from Fighting Force or something, and the gameplay looks like Turtles in Time: Reshelled. I was hoping for more of a overhead side-scrolling setup like the original.

Oh well. I'll still try to enjoy it. I'm really hoping the original arcade version is included, too.

DOUBLE DRAGON!!!

I freakin' love this series, man. Definite get for me.

And since I'm kinda behind in the times when it comes to this stuff... Is there possibly a remake of the first Double Dragon?

Man, this looks bad. Usually, with 3D remakes of 2D brawlers, the hit detection is horrible. The Turtles in Time remake had this problem. Sometimes, that, with worse control, just makes the games totally less fun than the originals. From watching the video, this one looks just as wonky. Sad, I love Double Dragon, and if any series deserves to STILL exist, it's that one, but this is the wrong way to do it. For one, if you are going to do the 2.5D brawler, work on hit detection and control FIRST. Next, damn, the character designs are ass. Billy and Jimmy only slightly resemble their former selves(they got douchy haircuts, but their clothes are near the same to their original clothes). Linda, I don't know what to think about(S&M stripper cop??) and I have no idea in hell who all the other characters are(they don't even closely resemble the other enemies from the original). I know I might sound like a nostalgia-smitten fool, but, somethings you shouldn't change. The look of certain characters, from the 80s, especially in a game like Double Dragon, should never be modernized. Some of the charm came from the 80s-ness of the designs. I remember watching Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon, and that scene where they are all fighting in the dance club, all the villains(the looks were totally on par to the same style Double Dragon aimed for), that was a totally 80s thing. Hell, as I've said before, I totally imagined a DD movie to be part The Last Dragon and part The Warriors(maybe with a dash of Streets of Fire), and most definitely not that crap we got in the 90s(where Scott Wolf was one of the Lee brothers that, well, didn't even fight).

I'll probably give it a shot, but I'd have much preferred a graphically renovated version of the old NES title.  I'd like to know how many dozens of hours my buddy and I dumped into that game back in the day.  As of now, there really isn't a whole lot about this remake that screams Double Dragon II to me.  They'd have been better off branding it as a brand new episode IMO.

Renonsgoods is right on the ball here. There's a whole lot more in there that's a kin to Double Dragon III then II.

Here's more info about the game here:
http://www.co-optimus.com/article/6488/3d-double-dragon-ii-remake-coming-to-xbla-as-wander-of-the-dragons.html (http://www.co-optimus.com/article/6488/3d-double-dragon-ii-remake-coming-to-xbla-as-wander-of-the-dragons.html)

I had to laugh when they said that the character design is reminiscent of Fist of the North Star. Um...the original game (and to an extent, DD2) was highly influenced by FotNS. But this? Not really. It looks more reminiscent of the Axe body spray crowd and casual MMA fans than anything else...just too much of a "bro" vibe for Double Dragon.

And the developer couldn't confirm online co-op either way. WTF?!? It won't make any difference to me personally, but...it comes out next month. Either it does or it doesn't at this point...right? I'm guessing it doesn't. Why not just tell us??

I might be alone in this right here... But I say:

Who cares what it isn't (an accurate DD2 remake)? What it is is Double Dragon! :D

In name only, from the looks of it. To me, this looks like Fighting Force with a perfect guard feature and DD characters' names slapped onto it.

Like I said, I'll still buy it since I've always been a big fan, but I really do expect this one to suck total ass.
