I acquired the Crissaegrim very very early onto my inverted Castlevania adventure, and for example, I managed to beat Dracula, Arkhadan (spelling? Mummy guy), Frankenstein, Shaft, Medusa, and even Beelzebub without being hit.
Mr.Mummy, and Shaft didn't even get a chance to attack, while the mummy didn't even reach the point where it was out of its coffin. :'(
Crissaegrim gets the best weapon EVER award.
Another one I really like, even though it isn't too useful is the Heaven Sword, when you have two equipped at once.
Also, Alucard Shield Rod attack FTW! 8)

Ok, if its borign when you use it.... don't?

Now you are not talking right.Symphony isn't boring.I can play this game a million times without to get bored. Also about the Crissaegrim, for someone who has never played the game before,he doesn't even know that this sword exists.Even so there plenty stufs to do,so you can't say that the game is boring because of Crissaegrim.
-
wow....if you want to talk about boring Caastlevania's then you should be talking about the 64 games....or just read the Simon's Quest Worlds of Power book from Scholastic...then we'll talk boring
-
Or legends. Or even better, cod. Once you're done with the first level, beat its boss and see that there's a whole bunch of identical levels with different textures before you, then talk about boring. :P

The n64 titles were not boring, Period. They were probably the best thing that ever happend to this series. It was the first 3D attempt for castlevania and immidiatly a brilliant one, it is far better then LOI and COD because the n64 titles have one thing the others don't ; the perfect mixture of advanture and action (especially the villa)

Not really.
The n64 games were okay. Some people think they're underrated, while in reality it's the opposite.
-
HA! My very first play through EVER went the same way. It was like the first Shmoo thing I killed dropped one. I fucking ripped through the game. I mean, some bosses like The Creature didn

I agree completely, and I definately believe they didn't capture 3D CV perfection. They were alright, but weren't how I generally saw the series's first 3D steps to be like. Not that LoI or CoD were better, but both N64-vanias and PS2-vanias had their shares of pros and cons. I think the pros from both(PS2 and N64 CVs), COMBINED, would come close to what I feel would be a perfect 3D CV title.
-
The second time I played Symphony of the night I got the Crissaegrim with just one kill. That mummy was way too easy, I agree. Even Galamoth wasn't that hard.
-
EEEEKK!!!!! :o
Please, no quarreling! I wasn't actually serious! What I meant was, if you obtain (and use) that weapon, the Crissaegrim, the game becomes boring. I would never dare to actually say, and mean that SotN is boring. I adore it, and play it too often for my own good.
I like CoD, because it had neat characters, and a fun fighting system. I liked LoD (or 64, but not quite as much), simply due to the amazing Villa stage.
BlueCheeze, Platinum Armor, I think you two understand what I meant, and I hope you guys know I don't actually mean that the game's boring.
:-\Didn't think on this site I'd need to be THAT specific. Why would I be on a CV board, insulting the most liked game, unless I was a masochistic lunatic wanting to be killed by all the fans?

I was kinda "irate" so to speak when I first noticed the title of the thread, but then realized more when I read more. hehe. Honestly speaking, the duplicator was what ruined the difficulty for me. I obtained the crissaegrim a little later on, then yep... you can probably figure out what happened after that. >_>
Though the flame whip in SQ almost seems like it could be the equivalent of the crissaegrim in SoTN. Cutting down Dracula in 20 seconds isn't even funny. :(
-
O.K.!First N64 Castlevanias, are best for me against the 3D ones from PS2 just for one reason. They were having more freedom for you to move and explore, unlike the PS2 that you were only allowed to move forward or backward.Better graphics and improved battle system, doesn't make them better them from the 64 titles. No unless they put more action elements and more free exploration on those two.Next about Symphony,i don't need the grissagrem sword to beat the game for fun and i can kill Galamoth with one hand only, without the grissagrem.I'll upload a video for you later showing you how to kill him with one hand and without get hurt even once time.

I still haven't gotten the duplicator in my replay right now. I instead watched the horrible 'tactics' videos that you can buy from the librarian. Those make me giggle with pleasure. :P
-
Why even bother comparing those 3-D games. All of them are kind of messed up in their own special ways.
-
Yeah, the game's easy enough without getting weapons that make it even easier, such as the Crissaegrim. I think this year's annual October playthrough I might concentrate on only using two-handed weapons, just to change up the pace.
For me, the best item in the game is Joseph's Cloak since you can change it's color. I guess MMO's have spoiled me, but I like even the smallest bit of character customization.
I didn't find COD to be as boring as people say. Once you get to Dracula's Castle yes, you are ready to scream at the monotony by the time you get to the end of it, but the battle with Isaac and Dracula makes up for it in my opinion. Some stages were better than others when it comes to being repetitive, but overall it wasn't a huge distraction.
-
The game gets pretty 'boring' by the same token when you get the Alucard Shield and the Shield Rod. 255 damage per second?! :O
-
I hate to say it... but as great as this game was I found it boring too. Hence why I decided to remake it. ;D
-
damn you all, you play the game 43856463 times and don't want to find it boring?
try playing in luck mode+naked mode together...
try....only then you post...

We all envy you sir.

Even that is easy (and boring); all you do is repeatedly dive-kick everything hundreds of times.
The only real challenge in SotN is map glitching

btw: thanks for deleting my account, CVD!
edit: Oh, I guess everybody had to start over? LOL!
-
Eh, that's not really a challenge. I tried it once, it was really only mind numbingly boring, especially since the results are just white boxes on the map. Now if the glitching could give you cool stuff normally not found in the game, that'd be something more worth doing.

Maybe this will be challenging enough for you guys when it's done. :P

It's too bad that only people who emulate on their PC will be able to play it:(
"Now if the glitching could give you cool stuff normally not found in the game, that'd be something more worth doing."
It does do that...sorta. It raises your Defence (walk armor) to the point that you can walk through everything. As well as a few extra areas and the ability to skip bosses; or even re-fight some bosses.
The fact that you found it boring, means that you didn't get a very high percentage--it's really challenging to get up to the really high percentages.
Besides, when you complain about EVERYTHING, it's pretty hard to take anything you say as "correct", Serio.
-
Looking at the same boring heart refresh animation for an hour while alternating the buttons is not my idea of fun. So, it's boring. :o
Even dos's succubus glitch is more fun than that.
It's too bad that only people who emulate on their PC will be able to play it:(
Is there anything that stops others from doing that? I could understand if they were using some alien system like mac os or linux for which there are no emulators or games, but anyone with a windows and half decent pc can emulate it.
And if people go all "no emulation is wrong!", well, then their loss. They'll be just losing a great way to re-experience the game because they refuse to try new things.

Quoted for the truth. I personally made myself skip playing over SoTN this summmer, for the waiting Esco's hack! It's going to be glorious!! :D
AHhhhhhh CAnnnnt wwaaait!

Yeah I gotta say, I really dig being able to play SoTN on my PSP! ;D

Sorry if this offends people but.... playing a naked challenge is not in the least bit fun to me. You have no range, only 1 attack, and some things can easily kill you in a hit. It's just annoying to me.
As for glitching, I have friends who are glitchers, and sorry to say this, but I agree with Serio.... doing the same thing over and over and over again for hours, just to break the games rules seems whack to me. Why do that, when I can simply reprogram it to do what I want it to? :P
But hey... to each his own. IF it makes you happy guys, do it. :D

Just some personal advice.... if you've never beaten the game, I recommend doing so... get 200%, see the endings, get all the items.... THEN play my game. Not only will you appreciate the changes a LOT more (at least I HOPE you will, lol), but you probably won't stand a chance in hell of surviving if you play my game first. It is designed to be a new but HARD version of SOTN.
And when I say hard.... I mean a CVIII US VERSION level of HARD!!! :o

Indeed, I have a good 20 times or so! lol. The only thing I haven't done was max up the Muramasa and a the fairy familiar and probably some other things here and there.
And when I say hard.... I mean a CVIII US VERSION level of HARD!!! :o
But this is looking very promising! Ahh, SoTN with default CVIII difficulty is like a long lost dream ready to become a reality, soon. : )
Btw, Esco, will their be some modding with the "leet" items as well, or at least some slight tone downs on those ruiners? Like with the Alucard shield/shield rod(or Mablung), Crissaegrim, Mourneblade, etc.
-
Obviously. Otherwise what would be the point of this hack, if even then you could just get double criss and 2 rings of varda and own everything in the way. :P
-
I have been in the same situation as you, how to remedy the situation? Simply go through the game with the Alucart sword, its much more challenging which makes it more fun, give it a try!
-
Like i have said before, i have played the game more than a 100 times and never get bored of it.
To me it doesn't count the difficulty, but the game play, the music, the back grounds with the atmosphere and the scenario of the game.
No matter how many times i play it, i'll never get bored and i'll continue to play it, until i get old.
-

Well, as long as your statement doesn't stereo-type what real glitchers do, it's fine. It ain't like it's "senseless" repetition.
I'd accept more from someone who really glitched the game and quit, but I find it hard to accept an opinion from someone (in general) who didn't even try and just assumed the whole point of glitching.
In response to the topic, there are nice challenges that are possible with just you, your SOTN and your PS (or PS2 or emu, whatever).
1. 0-kill challenge
2. 1-kill challenge
3. 425% map challenge
4. 24% only map challenge
5. Low-map/All relics chalnge (55% map)
And lots more. Of course I'm not advertising it for people to do it, just plan info for all that they're all results of nice and fun work over the years.
-
Wazzup SymboliC!?
Glad to see someone else here who knows some good ways to make SotN a challenge.
And to add to that, the 425% challenge is actually a low-kill challenge as well, because you have to get 43 level-ups while on the ceiling!
-
Heya Outta! Nice to see you around here too.
I have a file at level 50, I'm gonna use it for the remaining Mist-ups. (even though I know it's going to be a pain later on at the level 80's above)
-
Arukado found a level 1 code for gameshark--if it's not too hard to find one for PS1, it might be worth it?
