Title: Castlevania Homebrew: Vampire Blood Chronicles (former CV:Resurrection)
Post by: Donvermicelli on September 14, 2007, 06:37:28 PM
Vampire Blood Chronicles is a 3d CV homebrew. It's heavily inspired on the SOTN/DracX storyline and the N64 concepts.

The Castledesign is a mix of DracX and N64, the music is completly new, the bosses are regulars and some guests and the standard enemies are our favorites(skeletons, zombies, knights)

So far the team has grown pretty large so we hope to get progress real fast in this period.

Please leave comments,suggestions,idea's and ctritism.

My question is how is it gonna be playable for others or how are you gonna distribute it? Is anyone that wants to play gonna have to have the starwars game its made with installed or what?
Title: Re: Castlevania Homebrew: Vampire Blood Chronicles (former CV:Resurrection)
Post by: Donvermicelli on September 17, 2007, 04:41:06 PM
As an answer to the how are we going to distribute it question: We are gonna distribute it in 2 ways and in 2 waves.
First wave will be the singleplayer version as a mod for the game and as a standalone game using the now released quake3 source.

The second wave will feature the same thing only with the multiplayer mode included allouwing players to cooperate in the singeplayermode
(no limit to ppl yet succesfull test with 25 persons) and also versus mode that allouws players to duel it out in area's of the castle to see who is the fastest/strongest/smartest.

All summed up something to look foreward to  ;)

And as an answer as to when a playab.e demo will come out; I am working on it when I can (almost fulltime in my freetime)
I am still having some issues I cannot solve but, I hope to solve those with trial and error. If you want an estimation as to how
far I am in creating this demo: about 75% (still need to configure the menu and insert the cutscenes. I also need to build 1 more stage)

I hope this feeds you enough information and I also hope you will stay with us for support ;D

online play cool!
with so many ppl playing i'm sure you'll make alot of other castlevania belmonts right?
maybe alucard it be cool to see him in 3d:)
maybe have him as a playable in the story after ppl beat the game, that'll make ppl want to play it over:)
i know i would love it,just geting all worked up abut it.lol
hope you'll think about it tho,it be hard to play with 25 richters running around even if they had there on colors blue/red/yellow/green/ you still have hell with so many ppl being the same ppl.lol
unless ppl can play as the bad guys.lol
oh well good luck!!
and can't wait to play this keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!

altho Don handles most of things, I do know its not currently on our todo list but we may use the character creator, so you could "create a hunter" or belmont, multiplayer so far tested will work in campagine mode its got a few instances of crashing but it should work

PS; i had to remake my account "sometimes new isnlt always good"

I am quite looking forward to the online function. :P
That'll have so much fun if 10+ players play together.
Will monsters drop rare items?

to awnser that i think some will drop more less sub weapons, altho this time around you'll be abble to carry more then one type of weapon, but this won't make this game to easy either, we're still working alot of things out as we go

Sounds Dracula will have a hard time ;D
Imagine players stay together and throw axes, holy water and crosees to him.
I know it's quite hard, but it would have great fun if players can collect rare and powerful weapons and other items from keeping beating monsters.
Can not wait for its release...

Sadly Dracula this time around is harder then any Konami version, due to his speed mainly, and the ever so strong second form

I'm a student, studying games development, and as a longtime CV fan (Bloodlines was my first) I'd like to
help you guys in your project in any way I can.
As a leveldesigner I work mostly using Unreal technology,
however I can also model using 3ds max and create textures.
So if you need anything from me feel free to contact me

interesting works, so your a 3dmax user?

Updated News: Demo is slated for release soon, once some models are worked out. Me and Don, the main mapper and programmer of the game are also considering a 2d adpation after the 3d version is done, this will be a pure fan service if done to appeal to the classic gamers, it'll play somewhat like rondo would have. no word yet tho if the 2d adaption will be made tho, keep your fingers crossed.

a difficulty setting never present in castlevania is present, 4 modes to choos from, the first is the normal vania difficulty, and it gos up 3 harder levels to reach "vampire hunter" mode which is the hardest possible setting a  few bosses will have extra forms in this mode and a few other things are only avalibe in this mode, if your a true hunter this one should give you what you want

update: the project is nearing its public demo release, latrely i've bene mapping small parts for it now as well as some other castlevania levels. eg the DXC keep. tho i can;t say on an offical release of any of it yet, thats still TBD, recently i found some special effects for the engine that will sue some of the n64 effects to save memory that is so the game won;t slow down or crash.

updated dxc keep (possible castlevania map pack)

Altho it might be possible to do something liek that jorge it might be hidden mode perhaps, Eg Resident evil on the gamecube had one tough zombie mode, the voice actors are being prepped for their lines soon, i have someone whos gunan try to be either the succubus or maria. Richter once mroe will have a new voice actor and our dracula is an emulation of the SOTN dracula, opting he can add a romania accent onto it if we desire, making dracula more classical feeling. anothre room i've started on is a boss room for the villa or castle.

Its been a while since i've left some news, yes the prjoct is still going, slowly, since the 3d relm is actualyl ahrder then we thought, i've done a few tests with hi-res n64 special effects, and i'm quite pleased how they've turned out, these are being sued to save on system resources, Main;y to make the game less choppy, altho its only for large rooms mainly. soon we'll have this little thing of getting models to function properly in game :p then a trailer will be amde up and shown, so a visual progress can be displayed. tho i can't say what stage we're entirely on, but the visuauls of the game beat the n64's and the dreamcast screenshots from those games respectively.

OK here's the update I promised, it's the grandhall wich is almost complete. The route you see here is a shortcut from the beginning of the stage immidiatly to the boss room. The boss himself isn't finished yet so I replaced him with a random vamp instead. Ejoy and keep in mind this is still alpha phase ;)

well the keep i designed is still be refined more since i'm using it as a sorta of debug room (which i'll be making one of those soon) the project has slowed down more since well school comes for some of the team as does work so in the slower peroids i try to do whatever I can to keep things moving, the keep i designed is a mass mix of castlevania's Castlevania 64's keep, the draucal x chronicals keep, the sotn keep, and the portrait of ruin keep.

also modelling is still an issue since we're stilling working with the idtech 3 engine, it has its limits but is really easy to develope on, sadly we're still working on our own in house custom models to get into the game with some help with others. however the intial release is only to be a core game we plan to release more downloadable content in the future as well, our main focus has shifted to complete the main game which is delayed due to modeling.

Well its been a while and i've started updating using my directors level as a test level. I've been working on new enviroment effects, such as clouds and water, altho the more graphical i make it the bigger the cost such as lose of frame rate, altho that could be my vidoe card :p

first off is the emblem Serio provided kindly:
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi29.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc283%2Fomegasigma%2Fshot0000.jpg&hash=39b7f5387e6f00b91705a7ac1ef6dfe3cf3515a0)

now the sky without any enviroment effects:
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi29.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc283%2Fomegasigma%2Fshot0001.jpg&hash=e4a3bbe8fdbd93258ed7fa86c3a10d864134dc9f)

now with the moving clouds:
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi29.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc283%2Fomegasigma%2Fshot0003.jpg&hash=30d046f863750eaf0f864892bdba6acce477dc1e)

Among this i've also added seemless level music, where the song will play and loop seemlessly like the original game version (some may have a minor delay but its ahrdly noticable)

Looks good. If you want you can use the textures from my Hunters Moon mod I made for Oblivion. It has different wax/wan versions in the file and looks more like a CV moon than a normal moon.

I especially like this one:

Some great ambience there. One more thing it could use is some kind of carpet to cover the stairway like in sotn, as well as the bottom side of the stairs not to be so thin, clean cut and even, but rather more like sotn, with the bottom made out of uneven falling out bricks, sparsely covered with vines etc.

a few things here and there and i'll present a vid, in other news not only do i have a rough story outline for the sequel (if the games does well) i added the carpet as serio said, it was originally there but it ook it out before to adjust the stairs, and on another topic this game is more less gameplay driven, i'm going to focus if there is a sequel more on story and gameplay togather with

what you mean uncensored?

typically the host will not allow any form of nudity, eg statues and carvings, however with some minor edits as in removal of some minor anatomy it should be ok, think (Jap version of cv4 to US ) however i don't wish to water any of the experience down so there may end up being two hosts for the game :p but in sotn i loved all the fine statue details present in the castle it gave off a sense of wealth and history of the building as well as in some castlevania games theres the paintings whihc could probuly be questionable to the site but i feele veryhting will be left intact in its original form

Censors need to get the stick outta their asses. If it's tasteful, leave it be.

Looks pretty good. I see your JA maps are improving quite a bit! Looks pretty much perfect. Reminds me of the old Castlevania mod I tried to do for that game. Ended up falling through.

well in recent news we decided to have multiple paths as seen in castlevania 3 and rondo of blood, not to mention hidden paths weither or not whihc path you take effects to story is still in developement, however the false and true endings will return like most castlevnaias now

also is this more to Serio's liking?

I've been quiet these past weeks for 2 reasons;
1) I've been on vacation
2) I've been practicing some of my mapping techniques(hope some stuff looks better now)

I was originally planning to show you guys 4 pics but since my host is being jerky (probably because of my unstable internet connection atm) I can only show you guys one:

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freewebs.com%2Fcastlevaniatc%2FSS16.jpg&hash=01a4cb7f26aea02d6a353a36a5b0d774022539dc)

A small note: some people might be thinking "hey, what area of the castle is that?" wel that's the tower of science from LOD, I had a small hole in between two maps and drew empty on idea's to fill the gap up (other alternative was the COD tower of eternity) some people like it some people don't. If people have better idea's for maps then please present them  ;)

Also to answer the question about when new video's will pop up: most likely not very soon, we are in need of people who can help us model/skin certain assets and I want the next video to feature some enemies other than vamps and skeletons. So if you can either: Model, skin, texture or draw map/menu concepts or arts then your help would be greatly appriciated.

Map/menu concepts.... what's that mean?

You don't have menus or interface designed?

You need map ideas?

by map/menu concepts I mean I do not have a final design on the menu or the interface yet. And map idea's are welcome as long as they are more then simply a description and include some sort of concept drawing/ floor plan or whatever.
one of the main reasons the menu and interface aren't ready yet is because we do not have a teammember who can do drawings for it. So if you want, help is always welcome.

Hmm I might try some designs if I'm not too busy.

PM what you're looking for in a menu and what map or areas of the castle you think you still need.

Well many of you guys will be pleased with this update we're trying to incorperate, the game will feature side scrolling platforming stages, we're trying to incorperate some 2.5d levels however as this has never really been done with this engine we'll see what happens, stay tuned for more. think megaman x7 but it wont change in the middle of a level, some levels will be 2d while others are 3d
