what's yall's favorite series of games besides castlevania? Mine's Mario, gotta love all that nes goodness. :)
-
I dont really have a favorite. I like to much to even have a favorite. I like Resident Evil, Onimusha, Quake, and Doom series. Though I do wish they would make some sequels for some games so it could be a series.
-
...I don't really have another favorite...maybe the old MegaMan / X games?

I'm torn between Contra and Metal Gear Solid.
-
Metal GEAR!
-
In no particular order:
-Doom
-Metal Gear
-Metroid
-Painkiller
-Quake
-Megaman X
I'm sure there's others, but that's off the top of my head.

Nothing. If Castlevania isn't an option, than I like nothing else. I play Castlevania, and only Castlevania. I have every Zelda game, except Link's awenkening and Phantom hourglass, but it became too decent and childish, and not gothy enough like Castlevania. I am now in love with Castlevania, and I will settle for no other video games.
-
Gradius
classic Doom
Metroid
Silent Hill
NES Ninja Gaiden

Sooo....you don't play non-castlevania games...ever...
-
I have a few.
Mario use to be until Sunshine.
Megaman always has been a top for me.
Boktai I love.
Street Fighter and its crossovers I love.
As well, King of Fighters.
That seems to be about it, unless I'm forgetting anything.
-
Silent Hill
Metroid
Deus Ex
Fall Out
Splinter Cell
Fatal Fury
-
Metal Slug
Street Fighter (Slowly branching out more into SNK stuff, am enjoying it too)
Contra
Silent Hill, I guess?
Mega Man in general before the Battle Network shit (ZX games are okay, also loved the Zero games)
-
Coincidentally, (or fate, I guess?), mine's almost all from Konami.
Metal Gear series
Suikoden series
Guitar Freaks/Drummania series
And Tekken from Namco.

The R-type series. I just love each game. all i need to do is play R-type leo,(i just don't know how to work MAME...)and bite the bullet and buy Delta. (i can find the damn thing under 80 bucks...) then i will have played them all. until command is released lol.
taking a close second is Shenmue. It's a shame that another one will never be made. (at least that's my opinion)

No, at least it wasn't always like that. I have more video games non-castlevania than I have castlevania games, but that was all before I discovered Castlevania, then re-discovered it a few years later. Now, I'm just sick of anything that isn't Castlevania. I don't own anything else that's gothic, gory, and full of great music and storylines. Everything else I own and know about is just so childish and ridiculous! Like Mario and Zelda! One of biggest pet-peeves is games where you can't fight or kill things, and if you can, you can't do it properly (jumping on enemies for example *cough*Mario*cough*) or it isn't gory enough (enemies burst in to "shiny dust" when you kill them *cough*Zelda*cough*).

Ooh, you're going to hate me. I picked it up for $20 (at most) locally. I had no idea it was no sought after. I believe it's even in the box of games I might be willing to sell (I'm trimming down my collection considerably once I get the balls to do it).

I'm...speechless...

Really? Why? You just didn't think the life of someone couldn't be run so much by a single video game series, right? I get that a lot from a friend of mine.
-
Command & Conquer- Anybody who is familiar with the series knows why.
Silent Hill- Because it's the only game that I don't feel like playing alone at night.
Hitman- Because you cannot stay indifferent to a game where you kill people for money.
Duke Nukem- Simply because of Duke Nukem and his voice acting. Period.
-
Gradius - great shmup series
Bubble Bobble series (plus Taito games similarly related to the series such as Liquid Kids and New Zealand Story, as well as the Puzzle Bobble spinoffs)- something about addictiveness and all the little secrets in the game that are well hidden
Arkanoid - addicting like crack
R-Type - read above about Gradius
There's likely more, but for now this is what I came up with.

Mario and Zelda are def. not childish, some of those games are crazy hard adventure of link or mario 2 lost levels/jp I would seriously doubt any little kid had the patience to finish. And Windwaker I heard there are people who bought the game when it came out and have still not found all the little islands in it. The old ones weren't gory cuz the tech really wasn't there in the 8-bit days and Shigeru likes his games challenging, fun and accessible to everyone, if they made like a mario doom game it wouldn't make as much money cuz your cutting out everybody who's under 17. Just because the games aren't gory doesn't mean they're for kids, it just means everyone can play them cuz they aren't going to have a n M rating. :)
oh and something that just came to me is the old school castlevania games don't have gore either, when you kill guys they generally burn up or disappear. :)

Silent Hill, Final Fantasy and House of Dead

Yes, but you're killing them with a whip!!! :D
And a friend let me borrow Windwaker for a week or so (and I have to admit, I WAS addicted (i missed a lot of sleep ne day to play before school!)) but I had that game completely cleared easily.

If you like CastleVania and challenge, may I recommend Ninja Gaiden, for the NES or the Xbox. The Xbox one was hellish to beat, but oh so entertaining...

Lucky bastard. Definitely let me know when you decide to sell it.
Also i would like to tack on the Myst series. i loved it since i first played with it years ago. It's probably the only thing i thank my metal shop teacher for. (dont ask...he was a moron) I haven't beaten the whole series yet though...just started Myst 5. (i tried playing it after Myst 4 revelations but i was a bit disappointed with its presentation. Myst 4 was beautiful and had such an immersive sense of touch.)

You burn them up in mario and hack them up with a sword in zelda though. :?
-
Vandal Hearts
Zelda
Resident Evil
Final Fantasy (up until 10)

Guess I'm gonna have to go with NES, since I own no Xbox.
Although it would be funnier, i am compelled to warn you about the NES Ninja Gaiden's. 2 and 3 are hard but forgiving. especially 3...its rather easy with enough effort. However, if you dare to play the first NG...feel free to tare out your nipples so that you may cry over something else. The original NG hates you. It really does. i Wouldn't be surprised if you find yourself muttering these 2 words while curled up in the corner of your room: eagle and 6-2.
you have been warned.

Yeah the first one is hella hard, the constantly regenerating enemies make it a bitch, surprisingly though the bosses really aren't that bad for the most part but the levels are hellish especially if you stop or fuck up and have to backtrack, the best advice I can give is to just keep moving and anticipate the flying enemies movements as best you can and take a few hits if necessary. :)

Yeeeaaah....I don't think I want to know.

Series... hmm...
Megaman X and Zero, I enjoyed 5 and 6 enough, even if they aren't spectacular. Zero's story and bosses are way better though.
Zelda... sort of... I only liked teh 64 ones, I haven't played Twilight and I don't like teh top down ones of old, or new for that matter.
Super Mario, I haven't played the recent ones, but I've played most of the ones up to 64.
Diablo, fun stuff for quite some time.
Guildwars, Same... but got boring afterwards.
Ninja Gaiden
Shinobi
FF series, I'm losing interest nowadays but I did love them and still love some of them.
Breath of Fire, I played and loved 3 and 4.
a couple of others I'm sure... but I can't remember right now.

Yeah they really tried to hard to make X5 and 6 tough. Sigma in X5 final form was crazy, I can beat him but it takes over an hour most of the time, have you figured out any way to dodge those pink squares sigma shoots out at you? I always just have to take the hits and die or use up energy tanks then die, or barely survive the assault but have no energy tanks left.

RESIDENT EVIL !!!!!
-
1) Metroid
2) Final Fantasy
3) Breath of Fire
-
Actually, now I have to go with Resident Evil. It is just awesome.
-
Metroid, Metal Gear, Wild Arms, Seiken Densetsu (Secret of Mana)....in that order

Yes.
Also love 2D platforming Mega Mans, fighting games, and other survival horror/shoot everything games. At the moment, Resident Evil 5 is my most anticipated game.
-
I never really liked the older RE's to the point where I'd call RE my favorite series, but RE4 was definitely one of the best games I've ever played. I'm stoked for RE5, too.
-
Without a doubt, Suikoden.
Others:
- Klonoa
- Original Shining Force series (1, 2 and 3)
- Ghosts'n Goblins
- Shenmue
- Original Phantasy Star series (1, 2, 3 and 4)
- Tombi!/Tomba!
-
Metroid, Mario, Zelda.
-
In no particular order:
Legend of Zelda
Final Fantasy
Mega Man (Classic Series)
Mario
Sonic the Hedgehog (Pre Adventure 2 & 3D games)
Tekken
Mortal Kombat
Metal Gear
Metroid
Shinobi
Ninja Gaiden

Best avatar EVER! RIP Dime.
On topic, I'd have to say:
Silent Hill-The only games other than Fatal Frame that really creep me out and I love it!
Street Fighter-The King of all fighting games IMO
Devil May Cry-Just plain badass. I even like the 2nd one.
I also have a love of Warcraft III.
-
I have a lot of game series I like, but if I had to pick just one that is my favorite, it'd be Resident Evil.

hmmm...
