Title: Times You've Gone "WTF?!"
Post by: Sindra on October 29, 2011, 01:28:42 AM: So you're playing a Castlevania game, and something happens that completely astounds you. It could be a sequence in the game that either makes your jaw drop right then and there, or maybe it's a bit that doesn't hit you right away, but gives you a bout of Fridge Logic (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FridgeLogic) later that day, or maybe it's even something that happens that really should NOT have happened that flabergasts you into either a blank wonderment or complete WTF moment.

So the other night, I'm watching a friend of mine play my copy Symphony of the Night that I had let him borrow, as he'd not played much Castlevania before and was interested in the Metroidvania stuff. So he's going along, and I'm giving him various tips and tricks and such, and he eventually gets the Jewel Sword. I explain what happens with it and the random drops, and told him the most he'll get are zircons, with the occasional Aquamarine and maybe a Turquoise or Onyx on the rare occurrence.

Two enemies-in after he gets the sword, he gets a diamond drop. Something I've never had happen to me in all my jewel grinding in that game, ever.

I start gasping and jabbering, not making sense with ym random shouts of "What the fuck?!!!", and he's like "Is that good that I got a diamond right away?".

Beyond wanting to murder him for his doing something I'd never had happen to me, right off the bat no less, that is probably the first instance I have been totally in shock from a game in the Castlevania series in ANY regard.

I'm playing as Alucard, and I did... something... while transforming into a Bat. I had picked up a LifeMaxUp or something on the Reverse Outer Wall.
Alucard started to fly, but never turned into a bat. He stayed 'crouching'. Even crazier was when I'd use the Bat Fire he'd just 'spit' it, hahaha.

Later on I found out that it's a common glitch, but it was still a super-random WTF moment for us.

Oh, and for my WTF moment, it was the first time I got killed by a Double Hammer in OoE. My brain lagged for a second, thinking "...what the hell just killed me." (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FlatWhat)
Or, if fangames count, when I found out that Ronald McDonald was chosen as this year's April Fools guest fighter in Serio's CV Fighter. My brain actually crashed at that time.

Post by: Reinhart77 on October 29, 2011, 02:40:45 AM: every save point in the Resurrection DLC that involves following the Forgotten One made me go WTF (just tried some new spots today). it takes me a while to take in my surroundings and figure out where it is i'm supposed to go. and if i didn't figure it out in 3 seconds, i'd die. then repeat that twenty times, waiting for it to load the level each time, until i finally get what it is they want me to do. oiiiiii.

Also around the same time, reading a shitty Xeroxed Dracula's Curse manual that came with my second-hand copy from some rental store. I marveled at the fucking terrible puns.

I just stared at it doing its thing and was killed shortly thereafter. It's still the ugliest creature I've ever seen in a videogame, and is a definite WTF moment for me.

The fact that the skin on its head is practically foreskin doesn't help either. Phallic dinos FTW!

Either that or trying to figure out how in the hell to avoid/deal damage on Koranot/Golem/whatever the first time I played Haunted Castle. That's might be the most awkward boss battle I've ever seen in the series. Now it's starting to piss me off just thinking about it. :-[

Going to the confessional in Symphony and getting stabbed by a phantom priest is a WTF moment

Hearing the hidden/deleted 5th ending dialogue for Symphony the first time was a big WTF moment

Post by: darkwzrd4 on October 29, 2011, 06:50:48 PM: Fighting the skeleton enemies in LoS for the first time. Seriously, those guys are hard. In CV, skeletons enemies are never that tough. Actually, in this series, skeletons are usually among the weaker enemies.

Then all of a sudden and without warning, it does a 180 on me and I get my @$$ handed to me. "WTF!?! Seriously?!" Then I'll be in a somewhat pissy mood afterwards.

He threw a dagger at the exact right moment over the Cyclops's head, just in time for the huge bolt of lightning (the one that comes after the whole sky glows for a moment) and the lightning bolt HIT THE DAGGER AND WENT THROUGH TO HIT THE CYCLOPS. The Cyclops freezes and glows for a couple seconds. It does like four bars of damage. So random, and yet so cool. I've managed to duplicate the trick several times. Crazy!

I know thats no big deal, but I almost pissed my pants!

Post by: Neobelmont on November 04, 2011, 03:34:06 AM: I did not knows the words at the time but the chainsaw man in castlevania legacy of darkness scared me so much that it made me hate castlevania for quite a while it was not till I picked up portrait of ruin when it came out that I got over this fear I just liked the 8-bit games not anything else I liked something but I was scared of it at the sametime I never felt that before when I was at that age .

Also dying when I try to walk up the stairs like not pressing up SCIV for example that spining blade thing and I forgot to press a certain button to get up the stairs.

I will mention a few moments:

1.- The first time that I played Simon's Quest, and I hear the entry screen (you know, that one with the creepy music). The only thing that I want in that moment were to skip that screen!!!

2.- In Aria of Sorrow, the sub part in the Underground Reservoir; the hallway before the encounter with Legion. The absence of music, and the moaning in the background, was simply annoying, almost for me...

3.- The beggining of Dracula's Curse, with Trevor kneel at a great cross, and then the sound and effects of the lightning.

4.- At Super Castlevania IV intro-story, the tombstone being destroyed by the lightning.

And many, many more...

1) When the spider woman rises out of the water.

2) When the giant goat monster is struck by lightning, then opens its eyes.

3) When Malus shows up back in the castle after you've already saved him. You're like, "Malus, what the heck are you doing back here?" Then he starts asking ever more unsettling questions before saying you'll perish, that Dracula will rule the earth, and then he laughs and runs off.

I was like WTF just happened there,

as for the out I was like WTF when they cancelled the Dreamcast Castlevania

I hate spiders. I was never able to finish Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the PC because it involved going through the forbidden forest facing giant spiders that popped out of nowhere, or were cleverly hidden behind webbing blocked paths so when you turned around in that dark cave, to see the web blocked path, you saw a fucking giant spider behind it waiting for you to burn the web. OH and when you kill them? they dont disappear. No. They land belly up on the ground, dead, and STAY THERE.

So naturally, seeing LoS had giant spiders didnt go over well. But thankfully, the circumstances were different, (mainly the fact that it wasnt in dark already creepy areas,) and I proceeded to show my intense distaste for them, by beating the fuck out of them with the chain whip.

Felt good.

There was one section where you had to go through with electric sparks traveling across the floor and roof of the room. I knew it was there, I could see them coming, and I knew when I would be hit, but when I did get hit I just backed up from the screen and shook my face a bit. I can't say my reaction was out of surprise that I got hit or not, but I ended doing that two more times.

To top that story off, I was playing while in my school's library, so people may have seen that embarrassment. That has to be the very first time that's ever happened to me from any game I ever played.

Frozen shades are those fully naked, blue transparent women whom haunt the lower area of castlevania. Frozen Half's are the Transvestites that guard the way to Galamoth in the inverted castle. I can honestly say that they were no WTF moments for me upon hearing the details about them. It was more 'n less a just weird.
