Recently started researching Castlevania's portable games sales and discovered the Dracula X Chronicles sold 350,000 copies (not including digital downloads). Konami has already given Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker some HD treatment for release on home consoles, but I'm wondering how supportive we would be if Konami did the same for the DXC...
-
I'd buy it again for home consoles in a heartbeat. But I'd rather have a new castleroid.
-
Although I really enjoyed Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles I'm not convinced that it would look spectacular on a larger screen and besides I'd much rather that Konami created something entirely original in the same vein.
-
Of course I'd buy it, and not just because Konami could market a stinky brown turd named Shittlevania and I'd still buy it. Dracula X Chronicles is fantastic, but it's hard to enjoy because of the shoddy PSP screen, and it's a pain to hook it up to the TV, especially when the screen is still shrunken and the PSP-to-TV cord is super short. They wouldn't even have to improve anything, just release it for the PS2 or PS3 so that it can play fullscreen with the Dualshock controller.
-
Konami needs to put all CVs on a disc (with quality emulation, hopefully) and sell them as an anthology on all platforms.
-
No more castleroids please, sick of them. Now I can see this getting a full screen console treatment, but for goodness sake leave the option for the original voice acting in, don't remove it. Now I do have a full screen Rondo on the Wii VC, but I wasn't too much a fan of the remake on PSP, I actually rushed through it to unlock the original Rondo (rushed through SotN too, I'm tired of playing that game). But what laid out before me was something I didn't care for, updated voice acting even for the Japanese voice actors.
Munchy: We could only wish for something like that, but Konami's not the Konami we once knew, they canned Gradius 6 of all things and don't make the type of games they used to, so likely it will never happen.

You know what I'd like to see? The classic outfits rendered in glorious 3D. Oh, and improved animations as well, the DXC backflip animation was just the same pose rotated 360 degrees instead of an improved version of the old backflip animation, which actually had torso and leg movement.

That and a 2.5d version of Symphony with lots of new content.

I wanted Dracula X Chonicles on PS2 when I first heard about it! Of course I'd snap it up day one. But Konami sucks I think these days, they only seem to push Metal Gear stuff. I never knew they were working on Gradius 6... Seems about time they should of made one, but guess now it will never be. Anyhow, we will be lucky to get another 3D game so I doubt this will ever happen. The last games I REALLY wanted to be on PS2 were only put on PSP, DX Chronicles and Gradius Collection. Capcom and SNK hooked up MOST of their good 2D stuff in collections/anthologies on PS2. Konami hasn't given us shit. Guess I will at least be getting Metal Gear HD Coll, Z.O.E. HD Coll, and Silent Hill HD Coll sometime. But what we all want and for some reason don't have is a damn Castlevania Collection!!!!
-
Aand they blew the SH HD Collection by replacing the original VA with something..not as good.
-
Im all for it since I didn't get a chance to play DXC(No PSP).
-
I don't know if I would. I'd like to support a game I enjoyed, and I'd love to play it on the big screen with less hoops to jump through, but I wouldn't want to reward Konami for their laziness. They seem to be all about half-assed collections right now. On the other hand, if Konami sweetened the deal by adding something else along with DXC, then yeah, I'd probably get it.
-
Yeah! I know I would buy it. I loved the remake. With it being on large screen I can brag to my friends how awesome I am at that game and back it up.
-
No.
A revamp of a revamp sounds lazier than what konami is already doing.
-
I voted option 3. Putting this title on a home console would allow for a more enhanced game then what the PSP itself could ever deliver. I'd definitely pick it up just cause it's on the "BIG" screen. As it was always meant to be.

Like the SNES version of Rondo. Then the DXC collection would be complete.
-
Good idea.
Give it better textures and we've got the deal.
But I don't think it'll happen. CDX is not MGS and that reason alone is enough to shot down this dream. Besides, it was released quite a time ago.
Maybe it could work as a dowloadable game, though. Even with original textures from PSP, it will be much better offer then CVHD.
-
I'd be just fine with a downloadable version. Could work for Konami, too. But I know they're not gonna do it.
As for DXC PSN/PS2/whatever "remix" being recycling; how many times has SotN been released? And I know Metal Gear is their golden boy, but MGS3 has been re-released..what..three times now?
It's more about letting the bigger public play this game than releasing it again. Fact is, a lot of people had to skip DXC because they didn't have the money to burn on a PSP (myself included). Now that the game is not sold new anymore, it's the perfect time to let the rest of us get a taste. The game is still fresh and interesting enough to sell, but old enough not to hurt physical copy sales.

Plus, I've already played it long ago and didn't really like it that much. A new 2D Castlevania would be better, no more rehashes please.
-
I recall seeing the casing for the Chronicles edition of DX. But I felt so saddened that it was a PSP only title.
Plus the remake seemed like an interesting idea, and the art brought back an old friend.
To see it on console's, would warm my heart. *And it would be a fun edition to everyone's library. But to pull off a "Peace Walker" move, oh that would be just lovely.

How is a re-release going to stop them from doing a new game?

yea I would have to agree a compendium of most of the castlevania on one disk would definitely give my bank account some relief.. ( could always emulate a few of the games I guess but it aint the same + the temptation to save state is always a massive vice for me..
most annoying thing for me is that Dracula X Chronicles is the only castlevania related game on the psp, so forking out £60 for a second hand psp (or more if you don't need to tighten the belt of your savings), just doesn't seem worth it to me ( i think me recently spending £37, $40 on a second hand DS lite for 3 separate castlevania games instead seems more of like a lucrative and sensible purchase). it would be nice to make this available on multiple console formats, but a xbox 360 Dracula X Chronicles game? probably won't happen... ( especially since SoTN is already on xbla).

Its also on PSN.
So I fail to see your point.

had a bit of a look on the psn site and yes it indeed is.. but only for the US ..
( from uk.. sorry for the confusion T_T... + dont own a ps3 ...)
but yea what I mean is.. since was a playstation related exclusive from the outset, not sure if it would remain as such, or if DXC would be available for all consoles..
-
I'd be okay with this. Even if it was download-only, I'd love to play Dracula X Chronicles. It's the only real reason for me to get a PSP, and I haven't so...
-
WOW --one third of you missed out on this? We're the hardest of Castlevania's hardcore fans --this simply amazes me... Considering the modest sales, and the PSP's vastly inferior market-share at the time --we can only wonder what could have been if Konami had originally developed DXC for the PS2 instead. Considering the feedback here, this may be a cause worth fighting for... Hmmm...
