MJ1990 Commentary: Haunted Castle [Attempt #1] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjj79uSUodM#)
I've been putting time aside so I can beat this atrocity. If I can just make that stop watch last...

LOL! Yes, yes, Haunted Castle. A real bitch maker. I managed to finish the game only twice in the past and the first time was shear luck. However story-wise I think this game tops the other versions of the original CV1 titles. I say this on the element of Simon's wife; Serena. She's non-existent in all the other titles and I did find that to be a bit of a shame.
PS: I had no idea that your name is Mark. So's mine ;D
-
Actually my name is Marc.
In terms of story, I see Haunted Castle as extremely weak, since it wasn't about stopping a crazed count from destroying humanity, but rather merely saving a bride from the forces of evil, when it's clearly not worth the trouble. If Simon's wife was developed more, and gave us a reason to care about her, maybe my opinion would change, but she gets no characterization, and thus doesn't drive us to really want to win her back.
Other versions of castlevania 1 tell their stories much better, especially Castlevania IV, which, as one review said, "tells the story through it's aesthetics".

Is it a coincidence that the video's duration is exactly 13:37? XD
Anyway, try playing the original Japanese version, it's slightly less retarded because nothing eats up half of your health in one hit.

I refuse. I must play and beat version M to prove my manliness.
Also, to answer your question about 13:37, originally the video was around 13:37 and a few seconds long, but because youtube always adds a second to it, it became 13:38 on youtube when I uploaded it. To fix this, I trimmed the beginning of the video slightly, specifically cause I knew people would comment on it. :3

They say there's a fine line between courage and foolishness...however, I'd say this is still within that line of courage, and applaud you for it.

Well. I got up to stage 6 without losing a single life, and honestly, this game is far from the hardest I've ever beaten. I can handle it.
-
Well, so long as you're not trying out I Wanna See You Suffer. Doubly so if you like Demi-Fiend's theme (AKA SMT: Nocturne random battle theme) as you'll grow to hate it after playing that IWBTG-based game.

Glad someone else agrees on this!
I think a lot of people played version M and never got past level 1, so they don't realize things stop taking half your health after that. Also, knowing and keeping the good subweapons helps more in this game than in other CVs, I think.
-
Oh, that reminds me.
I beat the game sometime ago. Didn't lose a single life nor use coins, and I recorded the footage as well.
I have something special in mind for the video, but I won't spoil it, and... it might take a long time for me to finish, but it'll be worth it.

to me simon's scream when he get's hurt is just silly, and his yell sounds like a fricking alarm when he dies lolz

This is actually a pretty interesting video. Informative, not overly crass, and played pretty decently (considering the game that is being played). There are so many things wrong with this game, making it quite possibly the worst Castlevania title. There are some good things going on in graphics and audio, but there are also horrible, horrible things going on in graphics and audio, too. I guess I could say more, but I said a lot in a pretty thorough review I wrote about it, probably around two years ago. I feel the same way now as I did then.

Main gripe I have with this game is the Belmont sprite and the God awful controls! I would love for someone to mod this game with CV4 Simon or another Belmont! Hint..Hint..
