Title: CV:LoD A port/remake should it be made?
Post by: Neobelmont on January 27, 2012, 01:58:30 AM
Ok so I was thinking and playing OOT 3d on my 3ds and well the game is in some ways a whole lot better that it's n64 version so I thought why not a remake of Legacy of darkness with all the adds on that should of been there and more this time. I think it should happen there are no good action games on the 3ds so I think that konami should strike while the iron is still hot. What do you all think?

Some mandatory changes:

-For chrissakes, just let me pick stuff up by walking over it, as God intended. And bring back Dracula X style subweapon switching as well. (Basically, make item taking faster and eliminate the action button altogether, just let me whip or something near a door.)
-Put in OG versions of Carrie and Reinhardt's levels. (Also some kind of code to activate OG intro and title screen.)
-Rewrite the script. It's kind of a mess in places.
-Better camera and lock on obviously.
-Make ledge grabbing/climbing automatic, and shimmying much faster.
-Give Henry a full campaign.
-Add Coll...Collier? Colleir? That Frankenstein dude, with full campaign.
-Add new levels, harder difficulties an' shit
-SOUND TEST

Yes, it should be ported, it's the closest to achieving the ideal CV feel in 3D. MercurySteam could learn a thing or 2.

No, it would be a waste of money and resources to port it.  The game is so unfairly bashed, it couldn't possibly escape the reputation its haters have built up for it.  Those of us who enjoyed it can still enjoy it in its original form.  Yes, of course you and I would like a nice polished port with extras, but would enough gamers enjoy it to make it worth Konami's while?  Not nearly.  That time and money would be better spent bringing us Harmony of Despair II (I'm not kidding).

No way if it's a good polished adventure I cannot see it failing I think that if done right it can be worth the time if not then maybe a well done 3dvania that has a buget compared to mario3d land and the right production time to you know actually be completed and be played the way it should be the major problem that I see with the n64 vanias is that it's not what it should of been an (action) game for the ages that should of been on par with mario 64, resident evil, zelda ocarina of time, and metal gear. Or if Konami is crazy make resurrection I just cannot believe that konami would not make a launch title or even take this moment to make cv big and incredible 3d platfomer that makes the original not even be a problem anymore, a completed version of canceled game that looked promising or a new 3d game that plays like a platformer. All in all I believe in a second chance with a game that could shut up all the haters it is possible, but sadly unlikely.

Kudos if it's on a home console.

The vocal minority sure is loud in this thread.

This would have to be one HEAVY remake, right down to the basic mechanics. Hell, they'd probably have to pull an Adventure Rebirth style remake just to make it remotely playable.

In the end it doesn't sound worth it honestly. The stigma attached to the original is just the final nail in the coffin; no pun intended.

I would still rather just wait till a compliation next gen game with all the Castlevania titles on it from most if not every system....we are using blu-ray's now...

I do not know why these games get so much hate they were some of the better games on the system and I feel like some of the haters have never really played the game in the first place just to be in the "in" crowd that hate it because it's cool makes no sense and some of the mindless avgn fans but I really do not consider them alright since to me they are bsers to me at points in time. I mean I always hear oh it was bad but that many people played it ?

I used to dislike CV64/LoD because at the time I felt that Castlevania should not go the 3D route. However after playing the game I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Quote
-Give Henry a full campaign.

Henry wasn't given a full campaign due to the specifics of the story. He was simply recruited by the church to rescue 6 kidnapped children. Besides I don't believe he could take on Dracula as he isn't a Belmont by blood nor does he have the Vampirekiller.

I've tried so hard to enjoy it. I've literally tried playing it about 10 times over the years. Each time it was just so awful I couldn't put myself through it and I never finish.

Before joining the dungeon; Everyone, without a single exception, that I know that has played it at the time of release or otherwise, also thought very little of it. Even the ones that had finished it, and or purchased it. Only here on the Dungeon do I see anyone who actually likes it. Even more insane, claim that it is somehow the best 3D CV, or even more yet that it is one of the best in the series.

Thus, you guys are definitely the vocal minority.

But the game was playable when it came out... I mean I've seen games that are just so horrid with the camera or the controls that they're intolerable, but LoD sure isn't one. It has some issues, but it isn't too hard to get through the game despite them.

Plus, a remake could simply alter the script, camera, and graphics, and the game would already be amazing from those changes. A more involved combat system could be added, but isn't necessary.
