Title: What's the deal with Leon's eye?
Post by: Arma on February 24, 2012, 05:14:24 PM
Sorry to bring that up if it has been discussed before. I'm playing LoI for the second time and when I use the status screen can't help to notice Leon looks like frikken Terminator but with white pupils instead of red ones.
At first I thought it was some sort of bug but in all the screenshots I've found with Google it's exactly the same. I already thought the menu looked half-assed, I guess Leon's disturbing eye helps to complete the feel

I noticed that too. And I can't help but wonder why they put a full figure in the menu background when you can't even customize anything.

according to igarashi it supposed to foreshadows Ralphor's eye scar, believe me

LoI has such beautiful textures & I wish you could control the camera cuz there's paintings here n there that seem very interesting, but you can't get a good look at them cuz some are slightly off-camera & you have to jump for it to adjust & it's just ughh

I recall a painting/mural in Walter's throne room that looked pretty badass. I would love for someone to take the task & take as many screenshots of these paintings that depict good vs. evil & i would pay them in gum

I really like the designs of the game, they might not be too well executed but LoI has a good style. After playing it once I took the habit of jumping all the time in case I'm missing an upper path, this game really needs camera control.

So the creepy eye is a foreshadow of Ralph's eye scar? that's interesting, and somehow it makes it creepier :P

Speaking of paintings, I've noticed that LoI especially has many of them.  What I was curious about was whether these were original paintings/illustrations (by Kojima possibly, hey a man can wish) or if the team simply scourged the internet or old art history books and slapped old pre and post Renaissance paintings into the game as textures?

Some of the paintings are based off real paintings:

There are very beatiful stained glass windows in the House of Sacred Remains that depict angels that seem designed by Kojima. So I'd say it's a mix of both original and old artwork.

Hmm interesting. I've found this while browsing the site:

Notice the beast in the lower left corner. It looks strangely like one of Kojima's drawings:

Even the colors are the same...

I know the painting in CotM's Audience Hall is a real painting. Also yeah, the paintings in the house of sacred remains are excellent. Even though the level design blew, it's hard to deny that the details in the levels are incredible.

Also, I like the paintings in HoD's Entrance Hall. In the second hallway, in front of the door leading to the Shrine of the Apostates you can see a small portrait of Carmilla holding her CV2 mask.

I think it's a highly-stylized depiction of Soma dying, his body disintegrating as the souls he's absorbed violently disperse. Nothing else really to make of it.

If that's the case, then they could have avoided a lot of confusion by doing this instead:

I always thought it was just a woman holding a skull, but that's an interesting interpretation.

I thought it was pretty clearly Carmilla, because that would be one huge skull. ;_;

The funny thing about that is that every major reviewer for a gaming magazine commented on the "Blend Repetitive" levels in both LoI and CoD. But none of them ever complimented the paintings nor small details strewn about. I think it was mostly because of the camera. Maybe over shoulder camera should be an option.

I think LoI had more of those little details than CoD.

I loved the general look of the room where you fight the Golem. At first, I didn't notice it until my eye caught it while I jumped, but those evil-looking hands coming from the ceiling are an awesome artistic touch. It's like the hands are "the evil artist molding life into the clay doll".

Curse's small details are there, it's just that they're so low-res it's hard to discern them, like the creepy paintings in Dracula's castle where you fight the horse-headed magician things.
