Title: Have you ever thrown away game boxes?Do you even like them? Do you have any?
Post by: Neobelmont on March 27, 2012, 01:32:16 AM
I regret doing this for everygame I have that is in cartridge form I have thrown away. When I was younger I never thought how cool the boxed look or the colored manual that would come with the game. Now some years later I am trying to get boxed copies of game again and all what I have right now are super castlevania IV, Link to the past, and a japanese version of Yoshi's story. So I ask this has this happened you do you regret doing this I know I have the boxes just look so cool. So with that I plan on collecting them again my best chance is the swap meat(meet? whatever) and game dude.

I have almost all of them.

Good for you I do not know what I was thinking when I was younger. What are your favorites?

I flatten the boxes but I do not throw them away.
However, a long while ago, my parents threw many away when we moved away from the old house, so I'm afraid I do not have many of my old ones.

I try to keep most of mine but many of my older games lost their boxes over time due to moves, space saving and other shit.

I'd say my Xenogear, Black Label... but I let a friend borrowed it and he cracked it. I'm thinking of throwing it away and putting the discs into a dvd case, with a new cover.

Talking about boxes though... I have the cover to Shadow Hearts 2... but one of the DVDs is missing. Damn thing is probably in my PS2 which I have no idea where.

I hate some of these boxes though. Like Pool of Radiance. pretty cool game, but bugs all over... the box is like 2 foot long. It's like a collector's edition.

This is for everyone what are some of your favorite gameboxes I think it would be fun if we stated some of them.I only have three cartridge based games but alot of disked based so I would go and say. Tales of the abyss for the 3ds, and y's game box for the psp, soul calibur II gc, soul calibur 5 special edition bookthingy, I just remembered I have final fantasy legendIII/adventure with manuals, and revenge of shinobi for the genesis. I love dragon quest 8's boxart and such. And the big kahuna of my collection are Suikoden II,a signed copy of mgs:peace walker and a signed copy of zone of the ender 2: the second runner by kojima himself who apparently has a handshake equivalent to a wet dog(don't ask me that was my brother) and those are some of my favorites.

I have the box for Bubble Bobble on NES but I don't have the cart. It is a mystery.

Carts that I bought for NES and SNES usually didn't had boxes (I traded them from friends and bought used ones).
Though I had few boxes for several SNES games (all used except MK3) and still keep them.

I know I didn't intentionally throw any of my NES or SNES boxes away, but they had to have been tossed during spring cleaning or something when I was a kid. But then again, I always ended up getting rid of my games to trade up for a newer system (something I wished I never did).

The only game box I can't find that kind of annoys me is for CV64. Somehow I held onto the box and manual (and game) all these years, but I can't find the box for the life of me now. Probably have to get another complete copy one of these days.

That one's got some cool hand-drawn art on it. Always was one of my favorite N64 boxes.

Keep most games in their own big boxes with their brethren, and the game boxes in separate boxes.

The oldest ones I have tend to be either the plastic Genesis cases (love those for their old VHS-ness) or the few, few cardboard ones, which are the GBA Castlevanias, Mega Man & Bass (got this for the Famicom with box and manual too actually), and Rockman World 5. Most of the new DVD cases either get put in their proper box, or if I'm lazy, on a shelf in my room.

I remember moving, My sister threw away my entire PS2 Collection's Cases, I was never more disappointed.
Now, I only buy games with boxes and Booklets, and for classic games, I have a Book store that sells games, every once in a while they'll get some Older games with boxes, I usually prey on those to buy

I love DOOM 64. Beat it some time ago and still play through it every couple of years. It's definitely a spoooooky game. Low lighting, really unnerving dark ambient music... It's way more terrifying than the original games, although the PlayStation ports are pretty frightening also due to Aubrey Hodges' music.

He also did the score for Quake 64, which, despite my love for Nine Inch Nails, I actually like more than their original score. Makes me wish I could play the PC original with the option of hearing his tunes. I'm sure there's some way of doing it, I'm just not a tech savvy kinda guy.

But yeah, ever since receiving SNES games for Christmas, I never got rid of any game boxes. My NES boxes got either banged up or thrown out. 'Course, a lot of our NES games got stolen... Good ones, too. But I was much younger then. The few NES boxes I have are only around because they were inside of an unused cabinet for decades and I fished them out a few years ago, all bent and smushed to hell, but existing. Glad I still have my DuckTales box. Remember getting that for Christmas. Pretty sure I didn't get any games, but all the gifts I got were rad and I was perfectly content with what my parents gave me. Then came digging in the stocking over the fireplace. Normally there'd just be chocolate and maybe a cheap dollar toy. I was incredibly surprised to find...ZOUNDS, A BRAND NEW NES GAME AND IT'S DUCKTALES! :O Along with some chocolate gold coins, which was very apt. :)

But yeah, seeing game collections is fun. And somehow, seeing collections of older cartridge-based systems and their boxes is far more appealing than how many CD- or DVD-based games are lined up on a shelf. Carts and boxes have so much more appeal to me, aesthetically, as do the manuals from that time since they were often full-color with cool illustrations and that.

Right to tell the truth I prefer the less "dark" more action focused version like the snes version than the n64 version got it from a friend in football years ago in high school for like 10$ or something had to black it out due to all the gang signs and stuff now adays the back part is switched with my japanese cartridge of yoshi story (the back tabs are different), but I want to get over my fear of doom 64  :-[
Also I love colored manuals it is odd by my brother told asked me today why do I love colored manuals and the reason is because game manuals for some part just have so much in them nothing like most of todays stuff so bland and boring.

So I was getting pissed at how little space was in my closet, including on the shelf. So I flattened a lot of the console/handheld boxes and ones for controllers and things, keeping unfolded the ones which were aesthetically pleasing or I just didn't wanna flatten (e.g., the Nomad isn't actually mine, and the GoldenEye PS3 box is sturdy so I placed my flattened handheld boxes in there since they refused to flatten out nicely).

I wanted to put other stuff on the shelf, but I quickly realized just HOW weak that warped board is. ;) So nothing but light boxes could be put up there anyway.

Here are some pics of my re-arranged shelf. :o Looks much more appealing now, and I threw out a lot of junk. Sorry for the blurred camphone quality.

Taped up my DuckTales box so it can actually stand up.
