Am I the only one who thinks it looks f**kin' cool? Way better than the RoB boxart (which was DXX's boxart in the US).

Didn't the artist of Record of Lodoss War do that boxart? Either way, it is the superior boxart when compared to Rondo, in my personal opinion.
-
I loved it!
It's 90's rad but not 90's bad. I like the shadowing it gives a great ilussion of realism.
Do you imagine a new illustration by this artist with modern coloring? I thing it would be GREAT

Awesome artwork. I've always liked that one.
I feel like its every few months or so there's a new topic on this same box art!

Yep it's the same guy who did the art for the Record of Lodoss War:Lady of Pharis manga. His name is Akihiro Yamada.

I KNEW IT.

As an oldschool fan, i agree, but my most favorite Castlevania artwork will always be this one:

Yeah, the DracXX/Vampire's Kiss boxart is easily one of my favorites (probably my second favorite behind only the original CV1 art). At that point in time,
that cover was definitely a breath of fresh air actually no, I just had US boxart in my mind.

Interesting style. Though too much contrast for my taste. Somewhat reminds me of pop art.

This box art has been a wallpaper of choice for me many times. Love it! Too bad we didn't see this artist again. Am I crazy or does Richter look a bit like Chris Cornell?
-
ye gotta love that art.

The artwork is gorgeous in my opinion, and actually did a handful of character artwork for the game (his Dracula looking WAY cooler than the original RoB one, and he had the first version of Annette with blonde hair).
Then we got those shitty American comic book artworks for the ingame pictures...

The in-game art was based on Yamada's illustrations, although admittedly poorly done. Still, his original art had a manga-meets-American comic book style, so...
And I don't see what's so special about the Vampire's Kiss box art. It's just the Super Famicom art cropped, so you don't get the full glory.

I picked that one specifically since it's the one I had in my house. Never had the Japanese one, nor have I seen it.

Hell, I just assumed we were talking about the art itself, and not necessarily which version of box it appeared on. ;)
Although in that respect, it still annoys me just a tiny bit how the first Castlevania's box art was cropped so much in the US release.
-
I always consider the design aspect part of the box/cover art.
In that respect, I adore the Castlevania box, even though it does crop out much of the art but makes up for that in cooooool factor.
Konami's gray/silver boxes were the shiznit.
