Here you go. (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2012/04/04/ranking-the-castlevania-bloodline.aspx?PostPageIndex=1)
It seems like very little thought was put into it. Kind of like he just did a Google search for Castlevanias, and ranked a bunch of games from a bunch of forum topics and how frequently the games were mentioned. I don't know. I think if he'd actually PLAYED Legends, it wouldn't have even made the list of 25 "notable" games that he made, and I'm in shock at how Castlevania Puzzle: Encore of the Night somehow managed to be several marks above Legends. I'd have expected them to be nestled together.
Honestly, I can't even justify this as even being his personal opinion. The blurbs and listing are WAY TOO copy & paste to be his actual opinions, the way I see it.
Shame on you, GameInformer. I used to trust you.
Anyway, discuss.

It certainly was a very weird list. Couldn't believe he put Dawn of Sorrow so much higher than Aria of Sorrow, not to mention it was awfully low on the list in the first place. At least he got number 1 right ;D
-
Pretty bad list. However, I could argue and say rankings are based off opinion. With that being said I found these opinions to be very bad. Moreover, I don't trust the opinions of anyone who is being paid to give an opinion on something.

This makes me want to list my own top 10.
-
I was considering posting that myself. My brain was filled with fuck after reading it.
-
Saw this at work today. I cried.
Okay, but I should've cried. The guy should've put Haunted Castle at #1 for extra lulz.

Top 5:
5 Castlevania
4 Sotn
3 Castlevania 3
2 Rondo of Blood
1 Super Castlevania IV
-
Completely lazy and I doubt the writer put much effort and thought into it. I don't know where to start ripping that thing a new one.
DoS, OoE and especially LoS better than DC? Riiighht..
-
Odd list.
That is strange that he put CVA above CVL.
However I'm glad that he ranked CV64 higher than LOD and that LOS was in the first five. That said, as any ranking list form any blog / site, that shouldn't be taking dead serious.
-
I don't find this list that strange. I may not agree with it but it's just his opinions. I doubt this person would sit down and write a list like this if he hadn't played the games. Gamers are always very suspicious. Why is that? I worked as a video game reviewer for a couple of years and no matter what I wrote people cried "IF YOU HAD ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME YOU'D KNOW THIS/THAT". I was also called n00b (even though I've played video games since approx 1988) or a fanboy each time I liked a game (regardless of console). It was a fun job for a while but the readers... oh dear.

Hey, if you're gonna say "[Castlevania] Chronicles is a gussied-up remake of the original Castlevania", don't choose a picture that shows a level and boss that are not from the original CV. My problem isn't the guy's opinions; my problem is that he didn't put in a proper effort to check his facts.

Well, many people would argue that Chronicles IS a remake of the original Castlevania. Same with Super Castlevania 4. I think we need to define "remake" here. I'd say they're both completely different games dealing with the exact same events. Also, in my experience it's not unusual that the person writing the article is not necessarily the same person layouting/chosing pictures.

Casual Castlevania fans probably haven’t heard of Dracula X or Rondo of Blood. Many songs you know from Symphony originated in these games.
lol.

...Actually, I'd rank them that way too.
Also, I laughed silently at the article calling HD an "ambitious" game. If that game is ambitious, then I'm the reincarnation of Genghis Khan.
The thing that bothers me about a favorites list for this series is that comparing the IGA style games to the Classic style games is basically apples vs. oranges.

Damn right.
DoS is certainly on the wrong page and CV3 should more than likely be neighbors with SoTN I'd think.

Chronicles IS a remake of the original Castlevania
Technically, AK68K / CVC is the only proper remake of original Castlevania outthere. Other games, like Haunted Castle and SCV4, were merely based on the same premise, but aside from some references here and there they didn't had much in common with NES Castlevania.

Wait, what?! :o
Aside form that, there are too much oddities about that list to comment. At least for my taste.

Then, I guess, we both now why and how I feel about certain people in fandoms. ;D

Am I the only one who disagrees with number 1? As much as I enjoyed SoTN, that game really doesn't require as much skill as CV 1 and III.
I used to trust GameInformer, but as of late their so-called "reviews" have made me done nothing but facepalm. This list just throws all their credibility out the window. Wow.

I'm with ya. I like SotN but it's not the best.
-
I disagree with this ranking. Some games deserve a better place (CoD, AoS for instance) while other deserve lower places (SotN, I'm looking at you).
-
Am I the only one who disagrees with number 1?
No, but I don't have much of a problem with it, I guess. Personally, I'd have chosen CVIII, but SotN being #1 is understandable too.

I am agree, but personally, I'd nominated SCV4 for the first place.

I like sotn more than I dislike it, but I am a classicvania kind of boy and Dracula's curse made me a gamer today so yeah go figure it's also odd that the one I like has Alucard in it as well. Also if I were to make a top 10 I can surely say that SOTN would not even be in my top 10.
Also Gummi I think all reviewers like ign, gametraliers, ect all have their crappy reviews, but everynow and then there is a good one, but till then it is a good time killer.
-
Yeah, I think games like CV I, III, and SC IV are more worthy of the number 1 spot. I guess the only reason GameInformer put SoTN was merely for the fact that it changed the series' direction and was critically acclaimed. But like others, I always say original(s) is best.
