Old, but interesting to read.

Whoa, misleading title much?
No seriously, I thought Nintendo was the one being banned when I first saw the thread title. LOL
-
That's the article title, so i left it as it is. By banned it means, the way Nintendo treats games outside Japan.

Not being the biggest fan of Nintendo. I don't care about most of those... But A LOT of those... are just plain stupid. Bar to club? seriously? Take away shine from a cross?
The one that I did hate... scratch that two... Medusa... it was weird to see that... a male medusa. That and the blood stain in CV4 menu screen. The rest not too bad. Like Siren for FF, that wasn't bad for me. I actually prefer the replacement.
EDIT: So many spelling errors.

*facepalm* What the hell is to censor about horrible pixelized tits???
But the thing I found most hilarious is how they switched "Oh my God!" to "Oh my car!" ;D
.... Damn. How times have changed. Twenty years ago you were not allowed to make references to crosses in video games. Today people make games of books with almost religious values, distorting them completely and having demons with snakes coming out of their tits and huge exposed penises ;D (ahem, Dante's inferno, ahem.)
-
Out of all of those, the lessening of the cross is the dumbest. I mean, why bother at that point. Thankfully they allowed even that much to remain in. When I was a kid, raised Christian, I always thought it was really cool that Trevor was praying before going into battle. Made me feel more connected to the character.
Funny how after all these years, Nintendo has actually said they want to regain the hardcore audience again, and make more mature games. Lets see how that works out for them.

Nintendo of America had to do this kinda stuff to market to the family-friendly crowd, seeing as that was (during that time) the biggest market for gaming; while some of these changes don't seem that necessary, c'mon... did they really ruin your experience of the game? So laugh at NoA's old policies all you want, but seeing as how NoA became an American juggernaut, I think their marketing team knew what they were doing better than a 32-year-old pedant who thinks he's tough shit by mocking a company's past policies.
To be fair, however, some of these did give me a good chuckle, especially the CV3 one (“Okay, Konami. If you absolutely must have a cross, please take it down a notch.”)
-
They would've became a juggernaut regardless. They did so in Japan as well, and they didn't have to censor there. It is true that there are cultural differences, but really, I doubt any of these decisions really made or break their sales.

Doesn't have to do anything with sales, rather than with how the fan base was treating. How would you like a ferrari without the horse emblem on it, if it was banned to have it outside Italy?
