I know I am going to be shot for this comment, but I really like this game.
I hadn't played it in about a year, and about three days ago, just picked it up and have been playing it on and off. I really like it. The environment's fun, and the beepy music actually seems fitting. Sure Juste's sprite could be different, but it's not that bad. The game seems to fit perfectly with the time of year too. So, unless you hate the game, pick it up and play it if you haven't in a while, and you'll see what I mean. It has many redeeming qualities. Especially now that Castlevania's began to, again, lose its touch.
And I think I might be the only one, but Maxim K is extremely enjoyable to play as!

I had to copies of this game. The first one I bought it was brand new just released, & I remember playing it on my SP ;D ..
But I let one of my friends borrow my sp along with HoD, and he's in jail now :o but now I have a new copy purchased from eBay.
I like it, but the bosses are just...

Indeed, I know how you feel. The smooth colorful graphic (what I think of anyways) and the music, seem to bring the game back to me quite well. It sets a nostalgic mode in me!
Though about the time I hit the underground cave region, I start to lose steam, but usually I can grind my way through that part! ;D

I think it is really fun.

I really like Harmony, and I think it's unfairly bashed by a lot of the members here. But I tried to play through it again about three weeks ago, and it was just...boring. I really had to force myself to play through to the end. Strange, because I've played through it about a dozen times before and I've always loved it. I think the problem was that I started a new Aria save file halfway through my Harmony game, and all I wanted to do was finish Aria instead of Harmony. I guess by contrast Aria is just that much better, though I never felt that way until now.
-
I like playing as Maxim and doing Simon boss rush but playing as Juste is just plain boring.
-
I like HoD, but the bosses are plain lame. I also wonder how it feels like to play it after a super long time.
I play almost all my games on and off, here and there.
-
I enjoyed the secret room extra with the furniture.
-
I still like it well enough, I guess. Thing is I played it for the first time after I had played through Aria, so things like the graphics, story, and worst of all, music, seemed like a total punch to the gut. After a while i warmed up to it but that first play through was quite the exxercise in patience.

HoD is one of my favorite in the series xP
love that game...
btw what happend to the old forums? I was away for a couple of months and now my old link won't even load, whats up with that?
-
On normal mode... I hated the game. I didn't like maxim mode either. But hard mode? Let's just say I got my ass handed to me on MANY occasions. But also keep in mind that I am one of those players who tends not to use healing items almost ever. ;D
-
I think I would have loved HoD had it been released for the NES instead of the GBA. It just seemed like a throwback in terms of the graphics and music.
That, and the castle design left much to be desired. But I might go back and play it again. Maybe it just needs another chance.

Old forums stank, so now, here we are, in this dandy doodle place-a-mabober. :D
As for the game, DoctaMario, you really thought it was a throwback in terms of graphics? O-o' ...That confuses me. I personally, and gladly will debate this, think the graphics were some of the most detailed and lavish out of the whole castlevania series. They seemed to be almost on par with Symphony, and in my eyes easily take second place for most beautiful stage designs.
Sure, certain parts of the Castle lacked, but the fact that both Castlevanias in this game were different form each other in most aspects, something that Symphony DID not do, even shows a superiority in my eyes.

I feel pretty much the same way here too! With the unique designs, color palate and everything else, I dunno if I can properly compare it to SotN. But it's all darn good in my opinion! Also, I ADORE the minute details that are all set out through HoD! Whether it be the landscape changing from the ethereal side, the change in moon, nostalgic references, scrolling effects, dangling skeletons on giant cogs, etc.

I used to rag on this game a lot, and I still think the graphics are too bright for my taste, but Harmony has really grown on me. I still like Aria more though. And while I prefer the darker look of CotM, I think HoD's level design far surpasses Circle's.
-
I really love the swift movement in HOD that's why it grew on me I think + the simon boss rush. but I also like the dark COTM look but I prefer Aria when choosing between these 3. (so my opinion is kinda the same as Thinks's)
-
Harmony's my favorite of the GBA trilogy. It's the only Metroidvania that I got lost in. As in, I actually didn't know what to do on at least TWO occasions.
That may not sound like much, but in all the games since SotN it's been a pretty clear, point A. to point B. thing. Not in HoD!
I love everything about Harmony. The music, the bizarre castle set-up, the dark/light world concept, the colors, and the fact that essentially none of it -actually- happened; for all we know it was just one trippy adventure through the Trannsylvania countryside.
Juste is my second favorite Belmont. A nice combonation of Trevor and Sypha.
-
i always liked but that's all....serio's hack made me really like of it after all. :P

I guess it's not so much the graphics as it is the animation. I thought the animation was bad in the game, and as for the music, there are NES games with better sounds. The soundtrack was pretty good, but the sounds they used were poor.

i find Chapel of Dissonance to be the most awesome video game
music ever created.
Lydie is a wonderfull lady for the hero to save.
Juste is an old skool Belmont.Who knows me knows how much i enjoy that.
Maxim is a cool "rival" to be recognized in the story.
The castle's aura is an interesting and original idea.
I'll would pretty much say it's a decent game...
the thing is, after you make something like sotn, all you do will and SHOULD be compared to it, because we would expect no less of such a genious.
-
I liked Harmony.
The music was great, although the quality wasn't.
The characters were pretty cool, I guess.
The castle, though... It's HUGE. nd it's extremely trippy, I mean, sheesh... I bet this game is a hippie gamer's best friend. It's like Juste was on LSD. What would've been weirder is if you saw Lucy in the sky with diamonds, or you fought walruses and eggmen.
So, the game was good, a bit trippy, and the music was good (What Castlevania game has EVER had bad music?) but with bad quality. I liked Harmony, and I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Lydie is a wonderfull lady for the hero to save.
She had no personality at all.

(What Castlevania game has EVER had bad music?)
Circle of the Moon. Rehash galore! :D
-
Since were talking about Harmony of Dissonance; here's my obsevation about its similarities with Circle of the Moon.
- Both games focused on a brewing rivalry between two friends. Circle of the Moon had Nathan Graves and Hugh Baldwin; while Harmony of Dissonance had Juste Belmont and Maxim Kischne.
- Both rivals used swords/blades as their main weapon against the hero. Hugh Baldwin had the powerful blade he got from Carmilla, while Maxim Kischne had his Stellar Sword. While both heroes used whips as their weapon of choice. Nathan Graves has his "Hunter Whip" while Juste Belmont has the "Vampire Killer" whip.
- Both heroes had to fuse two items to create a powerful spell. Nathan Graves fused 2 DSS cards (a attribute and element card) while Juste fused a spellbook and a sub-weapon.
- Both games featured a partially revived Dracula whom used the blood of the hero's friend/relative to regain power which both of the rivals care so much about. Circle of the Moon used Morris Baldwin, while Harmony of Dissonance used Lydie Erlanger.
- Both heroes were abit inexperienced and are still in training as both Nathan and Juste were still undergoing training at the time Dracula's castle appeared.
- And both heroes were the youngest vampire hunters to earn their respective whips.
- And last, both the main characters in both games sported the same hair colors. Nathan and Juste both have white/silver hair, while Hugh and Maxim both have jet black hair.
After noticing such similarities, I believe that HoD was IGA's "remake" of CotM of some sort.

don't think so...
if you pay attention to her you'll see she is all "bossy"
and cute and blonde...gotta love her!
-
Hah.. Julia from CoD still had more personality than her, & that's not really saying much.
-
Well the only real scene where she's in is the ending. Other than that she's busy being kidnapped by flying skeleton or bitten.

Nor all the knights can be courtly, nor all the courtiers can nor they should be horsemen: of everything it has there to be in the world; a lot of horsemen are, but it is going a lot of difference of some the other ones; because the courtiers, without leaving of your rooms, nor of the thresholds of the cut, they walk through the whole world, looking at a map, without to cost them a coin nor to suffer heat, nor cold, nor hunger, nor thirst; but us other, the true errant horsemen, in the sun, to the cold, to the air, to the askings of the sky, at night and in the daytime, to foot and horse, we polished the whole earth; and we didn't only meet the painted enemies, we met them in your own one to be, and to all it plans them and in every occasion we attacked them, without looking to trifles nor challenge levels.
ok I cant take it anymore!!!! Ive seen your sig everywhere your postin and its killin me! Your sig is entirely way too long man... way too long.

I bought the double pack 2 weeks ago to save time of switching the two games.

Yes it is, and so is COTM.
HOD isn't a horrible game, but it is a rather boring CV castle design. TOo much repetition and the music grates on my ears. ALso not fun to look at Juste's crappy running animation.
The whole thing just feels awkward, and is more and more feeling dated -- even against COTM.
I play through it when I got nothing better to do, or I just want to mess with Maxim's mode, which is pretty fun.

Explain, Ol' wise fluid-filled jar.

Harmony is such an odd game, and I love every second of it. Best in the GBA trilogy. :)

Even Successor of Fate? :-\

Uhh... which one is that again?
The tracks I liked a little were the file select (remix of CV1's unused track) and the entrance hall. Oh and marble gallery grew on me... "Offense and Defense"?
That's it. The rest are pretty unmemorable.
"Wailing Way" and the cave song are just awful.

Succesor of fate is the music of the entrance.
