Title: Question about Frames-per-second in CV:DXC
Post by: Slayer on December 16, 2007, 05:49:54 PM
I'm going to be getting this for Christmas, and I was curious about the graphics: what frame-rate does the remastered Dracula X run at, 60 or 30?
...I'm a 60 fps junkie...
...also, while we're at it, how is the emulated version of Rondo in the collection.  Is it good?  Any errors?

Well, I don't know about the fps, but I don't think the emulation on the other games is terrible. It's not as good as the original Rondo, if you've played that, and they both take awhile to load up but after that it's not too bad.

DXC, Rondo, and SotN all run very well on Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles.  I don't know if DXC is 30 or 60 fps, but it plays very smoothly.  You won't be disappointed.

Who the fuck cares? After 30 or so FPS the framerate becomes undetectable by the human eye anyway.

Yeah, I've never been able to tell what FPS something is running at by looking at it.  Either it's choppy or it's smooth, or somewhere in between.  DXC remake is smooth.

Frame rate allows for animation to run more fluid and life-like.  30 fps tends to give a game a more cinimatic feel for some, as it is the same frame rate that movies use. I prefer the more life-like 60 fps, myself.
Basically, more frames = better animation.
Plus, since the original RoB ran in 60 fps, I'm somewhat wondering if new version does so as well.

It doesn't matter too much.  I'm still getting it. I'm just a bit curious...
But from what I hear from these "Smooth" remarks, I'm assuming 60 fps...

He does, obviously.

The game runs at about 30 FPS. I was a little irked at it at first, but you don't even notice it as you get into the game.  ;)

Are there still any Simon figures that go along with DXC somewhere? (a dead Gamestop branch, maybe?)

Yeah me too, it makes the cutscenes audio and video in the original rondo sometimes go out of sync but I can live with it, I'm just glad to have the original rondo after all these years. I prefer around 50fps personally.  :)

I was reading some forum posts about players wanting to achieve 100 frames per second in Counter-Strike, because 60-85 was not enough and 100 fps actually allowed them to be better at the game.

It varies from person to person, I have a friend that couldn't tell the difference between 60 and 30 fps until I "trained" him. (Naruto: Rise of a Ninja is a great example since its adventure portion runs at 30fps while its fighting part runs at 60).

Personally it all looks the same to me from 60 fps upwards. But I have grown up playing games like Star Fox (Snes) or Goldeneye 64 so it's not like I'm a framerate whore. (Well, I am sometimes :P)

I can kinda tell a diff above 60 fps. When I used to play MoHAA hardcore it was common practice for everyone that played professionally to disable stuff like smoke effects and fog and force each team to only use 1 model per team (so everyone on the same team looked identical) So you maximized fps and increased how far you could see. On most maps I had well over 100 fps constantly and upwards of 200 if I looked at the ground or a corner.

It does make a difference but its not life or death its more of a dependably thing. Its so smooth at that fps you know your reaction time and skill is how fast you react because your eye cant detect any change in the fps above 60 or so. You know that if you got about 100 fps all the time then the worst that could happen is the game dip down to normal rates if it got very very intense.
