I'm tired of this 3d castlevania games. it aint the same! I want the 2D SOTN back!!!!!! Please make part 2 or I will cry. Darn Konami!!!!!
Anyone know how we can get them to make a part 2? It is so stupid how it aint made.
Isn't SOTN the most popular of all the games? I know it was the best for me and my bros we played it over and over. We never could play any other vania the way we did SOTN.
THOUGHTS? ANSWERS?!

It's nice to want things.
-
They already made a Symphony of the Night 2.
It was called Aria of Sorrow.
-
maybe you should write a fanfic about it.

While there might be ways with a next-gen system to make something a more impressive and official "SotN 2," I agree in suggesting titles like Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Harmony of Despair, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia as spiritual follow-ups to Symphony of the Night. That's honestly your best bet, as Castlevania is being led in a new direction.
And while SotN was and is popular, there are other Castlevania games out there that are a lot of fun, and some fans hold them in higher regard. Circa 1997-mid-2000s, most wanted nothing more than SotN 2, and the media still seems to hold that sentiment.
I'd like a return to the Nintendo 64 style with modern HD resources for at least 1 game, and at least 1 new HD hybrid of Castlevania III and IV, but I know that those are just as unlikely. We all have to deal with it in our own ways, and I wish you luck.

Welcome to the forums.
I think we're in agreement about 2-D being the superior artform. :-)
I hate to break bad news, but SotN 2 is looking like a pipe-dream at this point. Mirror of Fate is the only 2-D Castlevania on the radar right now --but after that, who knows... The good news is there are 6 other MetroidVania games to choose from --unfortunately Aria of Sorrow was the only one that came close to surpassing SotN IMO.
-
Yeah have you not played any of the previously mentioned handheld Metroidvania (Symphony of the Night/Super Metroid style) games?
There are 3 for the GBA, namely Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow. And 3 for the DS - Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia.
Just be sure to play Aria of Sorrow before Dawn of Sorrow, otherwise you should be able to have at them in any order you wish. None of them are as good as SOTN imo (didn't care for HoD, still playing through the DS ones myself) but they're generally very high to excellent quality games.
PS- You might also be interested in some of the titles in the Metroid series as they share a gameplay style, and there is at least one person here who feels Super Metroid surpasses SotN. I'm not qualified to make much comment on that series myself though.
-
Harmony of Dissonance is the closest you could get to a SOTN sequel. They share many things in commmon, MANY. Go and play it!
-
I'd take Super Metroid over SotN too, but they're both pretty much perfect IMO. Super Metroid is a 9.8/10 in my book, while SotN is 9.6/10. So we're talking two of the best games I've ever played in my entire life. Amen.
As for SotN2, it would be pretty risky for Konami to even consider that. There's no way they could ever live up to its predecessors legacy. The expectations would be insane. People wouldn't settle for anything but the best Castlevania game ever, and that would literally make any producer piss themselves with fear.
-
truth is I have played all of those 2D games, but nothing comes close for me..... I mean yes those other ones were great, but i want a big fat game with bunch of juicy secrets and epic dark story. rrawr

I don't think so. Aria fits the bill better on account of its controls/handling (Juste was one floaty bastard), combat/weapon system, greater plot relation, and music style. HoD's similarities with SotN, barring the typical leveling/equipment stuff, are mostly just in appearance. The game pretty much aped SotN in this regard, which I don't see as a plus. I would also argue that the castle design in Aria is much closer to the quality of SotN's than HoD's is.
Also, this is a personal thing, but I wouldn't recommend Harmony of Dissonance to anyone.

Yeah it'd be cool to have a big 2D game for homeconsoles. Nintendo did DKCR, after all

And Kirby. And New Super Mario. And stuff.
I wish other companies would be brave like that. Then again, Nintendo's games sell like hotcakes. Konami's doesn't anymore, unless it's Metal Gear.

I feel you bro and I'm here for you. It might come after the Mercury Steam games but for now just try to be excited about what's coming. Two new games featuring Alucard and heck lots of other cool dark gothic games on the horizon. If it makes you feel better I will always back the creation of a SotN2 no matter what.
-
A new 2D game for home console would be great, bu c'mon, leave SotN where it is.
There are plenty of other games that deserve a "part 2". And I'd prefer to have a new original story (my opinion).
-
I would love to see a 2D sequel to Lament. I think it'd turn out quite nice.
-
Especially since the 2D Leon sprite in PoR was such a cocktease. I was 99% certain that the next DS title would be a Lament sequel.
-
Not sure the series needs another SOTN.... after all, it has 7 to choose from, including the original. I do however subscribe to the belief that the series roots of 2D is where it has been most successful. I would like to see how Mirror Of Fate comes out, if that seems to be a dud then I'l stick to the games that came pre-LOS.
-
Just replay SOTN and unlock all of the other modes like Richter, Old Axe Armor, etc.

I am tired of "metroidvania" games!! They ain't the same as "calssicvania" games!! I want 2D SCV4-like games back!! Please make another "classicavnia" or I will cry! Darn fanboys!!
In whole seriousness "metroidvania" lasted for too long with not much progress. The best games that recreated SOTN formula were the ones that either got as far away from Castlevania as possible (AOS / DOS (only gameplay-wise)) or merged itself with classic formula (COTM / OOE). The only things in which SOTN was unquestionably better than its predeccesors were visuals and audio. I am very glad that series finally moved away from this formula.
-
When you've already made what is basically a perfect game, a direct sequel can only be a let down. Take another of my favorites, FF9. I would love to see another game set in that world if I thought they could make it anywhere nearly as good, but I know they can't. So I'm happy to leave its legacy untarnished. (Would be nice to have a remastered version in higher res with faster load times though.)
-
I wouldn't call SOTN a "perfect game" for many reasons (main reason is the gameplay). And its not like it wasn't surpassed by its descendants, at least when it come to the gameplay. In terms of graphics and audio it wasn't surpassed for the simple reason that all other "metroidvanias" were on the portable consoles.
-
all this talk of SOTN2 or a SOTN remake or a metroidvania that is also a mix of a classicvania
Sounds familiar. (https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi143.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr160%2FEsco1979%2Fsuspicious.gif&hash=0390410967c2f7f6e39caf79ccb3c5e5e69b702d)

Rondo of Blood would like to have a word with you.

Maybe, but since SotN is only the direct sequel in storyline and not in gameplay perhaps not. Though Rondo is like Symphony one of the best games yet made imo, and a viable contender for best Classicvania. The only game I can really see challenging it for that title is CV3 personally.
-
The Metroidvania Format is Beaten and Rundown on the Castlevania end, I don't think there is a way to freshen it up other than make a Harmoy of Despair 2 with entire castles.
I'm Just happy Simon, Trevor, Alucard, and Richter (Calling it) are in Mirror of Fate
-
I loved SOTN just as much as everybody else...but I have to agree that making SOTN 2 would probably just be a bad move. Don't get me wrong...it would get hyped to death but in the longrun I believe most fans would just end up dissapointed. Ive never actually been able to play all of the GBA games but i plan on doing so in due time. If they are anything close to SOTN then ill be content.

Yeah this is kinda how I feel. Esco's already doing the "hack" which sounds like a completely awesome take on the game.
In spite of his weird name I'd love for Konami to make a game with Soleil as the main dude.
-
Maybe, but since SotN is only the direct sequel in storyline and not in gameplay perhaps not.
Portrait of Ruin anyone? Castlevania 2? Curse of Darkness? Dawn of Sorrow?
I like how this theme could be summed up as "don't kiss SOTN ass - receive minus". LOL.
-
Personally, I'd like a game that explains Juste and Richter's exact familial relationship. Is Juste Richter's father? Uncle? I WANT TO KNOW THESE THINGS DAMMIT.
-

PoR I understand, but Castlevania 2? That predates SotN by years. Also Curse of Darkness's problem was trying to imitate SotN in all the wrong ways (Who cares about uniqueness? All that matters is that the world is BIG!) so it ultimately misses the mark by a wider margin than it's more confined and linear cousin LoI. And Dawn of Sorrow was a sequel to a game that was already a Metroidvania?
-
Maybe, but since SotN is only the direct sequel in storyline and not in gameplay perhaps not.
I am answered mostly for the part about storyline. However CV2 and COD perfectly fit for a decription of the Castlevania game that is sequel and have different gameplay from its predecessor (CV2 for CV1 and COD for CV3).

I'd settle for just a port of SotN with a hard/expert difficulty, just because the game is easy as hell except for the gold armored optional minotaur boss who's name eludes me.

Until you put on a Beryl Circlet and all he did was make your new hat shiny.

Nah... Beat him with Richter once with out any sub-weapons. Took many tries but I did it then my game was erased :(

Nice! I never beat the game with richter myself...just sorta roamed around and hit stuff. Then I realized "this is rather different" and never got back to it. Maybe ill give it another whirl.
