Title: Obtaining a NES/SNES
Post by: Geshmaal on December 21, 2007, 04:59:45 AM
If you've read later on in my post about young/new Castlevania fans, you'll learn the root of my problem. I've tried playing classic Castlevania games on emulators, but this often leads to disaster. Crashing games, glitchy textures, lag and straight up not working games are now the bane of my existance. I've been considering buying a NES and/or SNES to play old titles that I've not been able to work properly for various reasons. I live in the UK, and I've seen SNES consoles go for

You could try a car boot sale or something, or charity shop etc. But your best bet is probably eBay.

Gesh,

I'm in the UK

Maybe you can try Gamestation as they usually have retro consoles for sale or maybe even computer exchange though I find they're usually over-priced.

on the emulator side of things I've always used ZSnes v1.35 and my Super castlevania 4 runs just like it does on a real Snes and hasn't ever crashed.

Well, here's something you can check out:

http://www.estarland.com/NintendoSuper.cat..product.28392.html

I don't know if it will play European games, you'd probably have to email and ask, but it's defiantly the best for your buck. And it's super convenient.

Also, there's been a copy of Rondo of Blood one that site for a long time, so if anyone's interested in that.

I've bought a bunch of things from that site and it's excellent. I got Castlevania Adventure, with box an manual and everything, for like $25, could swear it's brand new

Woah...that thing is pretty nice. I was hoping for something like that, I'll ask about compatability with PAL games, otherwise I would have to ship NTSC games. Also, as someone had said earlier, I know Gamestation has retro consoles, so I may hunt around in stores local to me. Thanks for the help everyone! :)

Edit: According to wikipedia-Note that it is not PAL compatible in any way as so a universal adapter is necessary to play PAL games.- it seems I will have to continue searching for the seperate consoles!

Damn homes that is a good deal. Yeah Gesh you'd have to check and see what region it's set for or if it's region free. :)

I think it's time to upgrade. Zsnes is in 1.51 now. :P

But yeah, both cv titles work with no problems there.

I don't think Zsnes is psp compatible though, otherwise that'd be his best choice if Snes9x keeps messing up.

Yeah, you need a specific emulator for running on a PSP. You can't just stick a PC emulator on the Memory Stick Duo. Am I the only person on here with a homebrew PSP?

Ta Serio, I didnt realise that we'd upgraded further.
To be honest I havent felt the need to upgrade as all the games seem to work with 100% compatability anyway and having looked at Zbattle.net the online community doesn't seem to be very large.

as long as my castlevanias, Legend of Zelda's and Super Metroids work fine i'm happy.

No way, I've heard BAD things about combo systems like that, I'd stay away if I were you.

There are emulators that run these games as good or better then their original systems.

Fceu tends to be the best NES emulator
and I have to say Zsnes is the best SNES emulator.

http://www.planetemu.net is the best place to find roms.

it's a french site, but it has everything.

If you ever decide to go looking for an old console, then pawn shops, flea markets and garage sales are pretty good places to find them for a good price.
