please IGA, please don't leave us with our inferior version of SOTN. make it complete with psp sotn playable Maria DLC! and the improved voice acting and other extras they added!
YES!!! SOTN MARIA looks waaaay better and moves soooo SMOOTHLY! her sprites are beautiful and flawless and her attacks are 100000000 times cooler than Saturn Maria!!!!
but what I hate in that video is that the boat guy now says "O prince", he should say "Princess" with Maria around, or keep his original line which doesn't identify the person they are speaking to.

DO WANT!

indeed, but I think teh wording rpince or princess is stupid. I like Young Master better, and lady for Maria would be nice thogh it wouldn't make sense since he shuold be serving Dracula.
-
Sweet. :)

This was already posted on another thread on this forum.

This is the best video i ever seen. Thanks for posting it.
-
I'm lovin' it! I wonder how Alucard sounds like.
-
Let's hope that they will make a trailer for TGS that it will showing footage from the game with Alucard. Also i think i like more the old voice for the fairy man.I believe it was matching more his character. And finally the new sprite for Maria,it is marveloos. That guy that made it has made a miracle work.
-
It's still not quite Symphony-caliber like Alucard and Richter, but it is an improvement over her Saturn sprite, so I guess it can be forgiven. And considering the Portrait sprite "artist" was in charge of it, it definitely could have been worse.

Take a look at 'recently added videos'
There are even two new videos of Richer and Maria in 2.5d Rondo of blood.
The stage 2 with 'cross a fear' is amazing...

What do you mean by that? You don't like her new style? For me is far better from the previous sprite from PSX and the one from Saturn. Also we don't know if she is like Richter with no story or something new.Don't forget that Konamy said that it has new modes, items, enemies and plus more. For me she is very beautiful like she is now.

I mean what I said. It's better than her Saturn sprite, but it still doesn't animate as smoothly as Alucard and Richter's do.
-
l have no disagree on Maria not animated as smoothly as Alucard and Richter. Assuming if they still use the old ROB Richter sprite for the psp SOTN, I think She is smoother than Richter.
Anyway, did they change the frog puzzle seen in the new ROB 2.5d vid with Maria? I do not recall there was a living frog that one has to let it go freely to turn into a statue.
-
The press has been saying that many secrets were changed for the remake, so people who have already played Rondo will have something other than new graphics to look forward to.

Even though Richter basically looks like he did in Rondo, his animations were greatly improved and expanded for Symphony.

Exactly. Even the saturn Maria had more animation than Richter.
To compare, Richter has 3 frames for idle stance. New maria hard to tell since she barely stands still, but from the video I'd judge at least 10 frames. Richter's walk/run both had 8 frames. New maria seems to have around 16-20.

Haha, I was just waiting for Serio to swoop in with his numerical analysis. I guess I'll have to take your word for it for now.
Her stiff-legged jumping sprite still bugs me, though.
-
Why does it seem like they always pick the person that has no fuckin clue how to play the game to do the vids?
Anyway she looks good from what I can see in the blurry vid.
-
good eyes! yes psp sotn Maria definitely has animations as good or better than SOTN Richter. ^_^
itr's true, the POR artist was either talented or lucky or both to choose the right sprite design and animations for PSP SOTN MARIA. ^_^ :)

i like the sprite it looks very cool:)
but you can tell it won't have a story IMHO but i hope i'm wrong;)
but it would be so easy to give them a story line:(
and it would take to much more work nether why couldn't they do it:(
richter's story could be when he disappeared,he could go thro the castle and see things.lol
he could talk to ppl who aren't there,to show he's losing his mind then fight shaft like his old game and show shaft take him over.
and maria could have the same story as alucards only from her side of the story.
but they should get a few boss to fight themself just to make there game more like a whole new game.
but oh well we'll brobly just get the same as SOTN for psx:(
but lets hope there new badys and stages in it:)
even if there not i'll love it but i'll miss alucards old vocie:(
-
I liked both version, but its clear that her game isn't from Maria's side of the story when the guy still say "O Prince."
-
either way the can't give Maria her own sidestory cause she fights the same bosses (except a few like werewolf/minotaur) it would have to contradict itself, which I wouldn't mind. Resident Evil 1 had two perspectives that contradicted each other and it worked fine.
but alas, that is not the focus of this package. anyways I would just ignore that that boat guy says and pretend he's just a deaf, blind and dumb fossil.
-
HOORAY :O The 4:3 ratio is intact.
-
This is actually a bad thing. Originally sotn is in 256x240, not 320x240. The psx copy stretched the screen with hardware to fill the ratio, while the saturn one did that by stretching the sprites.
I hope they didn't do it the way they did saturn sotn.
But still I guess this means it won't be possible to rip the sprites with the screenshot method if there ever is a psp emulator or someone gets to rip them with the tv out stuff.
-
Speaking of her Saturn version i spotted this detail while i was watching her video on PSP.At the Saturn version Maria was able to carry 999 hearts, while on PSP version she can only carry 99 hearts.Knowing how weak she is and with the hearts limitation,it will be harder now to play with her.
-
Konami's shooter collections allow you to play at a variety of resolutions from screen-filling to the exact original dimensions.

Well I do have screen capture though my psp when on custom firmware.

Where ... are you pulling your numbers? You're right on Richter, but in SotN Maria had 8 frames for her run, just like Richter. They used these same frames in the Saturn version, and they're using them again here in the video. And you can tell since she runs at the same speed and pace as Richter, whereas, if Alucard ran at that speed, it would be noticeably smoother (since he uses twice as many frames). Maria's walk had 12 frames in SotN for reference (this was used, again in the Saturn version). From the video, it doesn't look like Maria will even have a walk in the PSP version, but rather just auto-dashes like Ricther in PoR.

This new Maria's movement is more like from recent Castleriod games, IMO it looks a bit odd, too shiny maybe.
-
I wonder how the Librarian will sound like.. it'd also be cool if they gave Orlox something to say!

Yeah, and SNES games are drawn in a similar resolution. Am I to believe that these games aren't MEANT to be stretched out to fit a standard 4:3 television? To me, that's almost like saying that a movie filmed open matte is meant to be seen without the matting. (I'm stretching it with that comparison, but still.)
If the original system that a game is for is stretching the picture to be viewed 4:3, then to me that's the correct aspect ratio of the game.

I agree. She moves a bit too quickly IMO, not as gracfully and stately as Alucard. She's still cool tho :)

No no no.
It was done to fit the tv screen, but here there's no point at all since psp screen's wider. Keeping a 4:3 res is pointless when it's not supposed to be done to fill up the screen, but just stretch everything and make it uglier, fatter and more blurry.

I guess I don't really follow what you mean. Are you just saying then that the game should be presented in its original aspect ratio it was made in (whatever that would be, 5:4 or something)? 'Cos I still believe that since it was originally viewed 4:3 when it was on the PSX, then that's the original ratio. To me anyway. :P And I like that it's being presented 4:3 on the PSP's 16:9 screen. Otherwise I'll look at the sprites and think they look too tall and slender...
-
But regardless, I just like that there's an option to view the game in anything besides 16:9, because if they were to stretch it so far and then not give any kind of option to view it otherwise, I'd be so annoyed.

I see no reason to change the oarsmen sounds..If the SOTN sounds were not the best but changing them now seems weird. only ones I would change were Righter,Maria,Alucard and perhaps Dracula. rest were fine the main characters just sounded a bit blocky that's all.
