Not sure if this has been posted before. If so, feel free to delete. I saw this game mentioned in another thread but I thought I'd make a separate one instead. Cause it looks really interesting! Childish perhaps, but still. Anyway, turns out we'll be getting another Metroidvania from Wayforward, and this time it looks more like Castlevania than ever. Now, I don't know if this will be a straight-up Metroidvania clone, but judging by this screen I think it look suspiciously like it. Will come to both DS and 3DS. Retail!

When I readed the topic title I thinked thats something related to that lol :
Welcome to the Hotel Castlevania.
That game seems to be promissor, they have announced the launch date?
-
Still waiting for that damn movie. Been months since we got an image of the chick and the plot synopsis.
-
Can't wait for the movie.
AND now I cannot wait for the game. I'm generally pleased with Wayforward's games. Shantae: Risky's Revenge is awesome as is Mighty Switch Force and Contra 4.
-
Wayforward seems to be one of the very few that does a damned good job with their 2D pixilated games. I just don't see why Konami didn't hire these guys to do CV instead of Mercurysteam.

Because fun =/= profits
Interactive movies = profits.
You can thank the MGS for that.
But really, it really seems like Wayforward are huge fans of video games and are in it to make fun games and such. Just look at the Adventure Time game being so much like Legend of Zelda 2.

Or rather you can thank the mindless droves of casual gamer meat heads that just buy whatever looks pretty.

*Groan* What has happened to the gamers of late? I'm not saying that every game should stay ugly, but to prioritize graphics and presentation over gameplay and substance...
-
Yeah, take the upcoming Epic Mickey for the DS for example. I think the game looks gorgeous, but I've seen many people on the internet complaining about the "ugly" or "outdated" graphics. I am shocked. I love the 16-bit look. For me, it's both clean and pretty timeless. But gamers of today obviously don't agree.
Anyway, looking at the map screen in Hotel Transylvania it looks like parts of the map are kinda faded. I wonder if it's unexplored areas, OR maybe the map has two "layers" with doors that you can enter by pressing "up". That would be a nod to something like Goonies 2, albeit less confusing to navigate.

wait.. wait... theyre makin an Adventure Time game? shit... that means I gotta buy a 3ds now
-
There's also a ds version, too.
-
Im without one of those as well lol

looks pretty cool. wayforward has been doing some really amazing games lately so i am pretty excited. i gotta say though guys im way more excited for the adventure time game. :D
-
me too! a good adventure time game Id love!
-
Very cool. My faith in Wayforward was shaken a bit with Aliens: Infestation, but Contra 4 and the Shantae games are just too good.

You didn't like Infestation? I thought it was pretty cool. Short but rather good. But yeah, they could've done so much more with it, I guess.
Oh, and despite being the topic starter, I too am actually more excited about Adventure Time. It's time to get a 3DS!

I didn't think Infestation was all that bad either. If only they made the different soldiers more than just aesthetic appearances. I at least would have hoped that each soldier's weapon load-out was different, like a class system that other AVP games have done.
-
Aliens Infestation is one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I've had in years, played the hell out of it last spring, so I'm kinda surprised to see negative criticism. Game's nigh perfect.
I've liked everything of WayForward's I've played so far. Kinda annoyed to be stuck in LIT, though. One room I just can't figure out how to get past.
I'll definitely look into Hotel Transylvania. Movie looks kinda fun, and the game could be something pretty special. Being retail is a plus; I'm not a big fan of download-only games.

Infestation isn't a bad game at all, but it felt very mediocre to me. After the sheer gaming joy that was Contra 4, and then Shantae 2, which was also very good, I expected Infestation to be really good. The problem is really just that Wayforward set the bar too high with their past games.
I do have some minor quibbles with Infestation. The whole team mechanic was incredibly under-developed. You only ever see your teammates in the save rooms, and your different soldiers are just different names with no gameplay variation. It felt tacked-on and could have been turned into a really new, interesting concept.
The music was boring. The only notable part of the sound effects was the classic Alien soundbyte when the cat jumps out of the airduct towards the beginning of the game. The graphics seemed pretty bland, too. Most of the game looked like just another spaceship corridor or airduct. Not at all what I would expect from Wayforward.
I really didn't care for the way the game was divided up into different areas and you could only access the part of the game (Sulaco or Moonbase or whatever) that you were currently in. I realize this was tied into the story, but it's a little frustrating when you have this sprawling Metroidvania world, and when you get a new ability, you can only use it on the parts of the world that are currently open to you. You might have passed a steam vent in that last area because you didn't have the wrench to shut off the valve, and now you've found the wrench, but you can't go back to that area because it was on a different planet. That sort of thing.
I think I had some other issues with the game, but it's been awhile since I played it and I can't remember. But these are the most important problems. It's really not a bad game, just not up to the standards of Contra 4 and Shantae.
