Title: Music Arrange Requests
Post by: Dalles on August 31, 2012, 07:33:54 PM
If it doesn't come across as too troubling, I'd like to request an arrangement of the following track:

Spell of Sorrow from Order of Ecclesia.

Expected quality level/instrument choice: similar to Lament of Innocence sounding style. Dynamics: same as in original track (will be used in a boss fight).

Thank you very much in advance.

You might need to talk to THIS person:

Castlevania Order Of Ecclesia - Spell Of Sorrow - Arranged Version 2.0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgjeV4mSIxE#)

...but then again, if that doesn't pan out, I might want to take a crack at it myself. :)

It's pretty damn good, but I'd still like to ask you to have a crack at it. At such an early stage of development I can't say which one will be chosen (since the character to be fought while this plays will be confronted three times, it might turn out that both versions will be included) so it's good to have options. Besides, it's never too many arrangements of a given track -- is there?

Good luck and thanks for this link.

Here's my version.

It's damn decent, Jorge. Better than the previous one.

I myself have found this here version:

Castlevania Guitar Cover - Sorrow's Distortion [Albus battle] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wh_CNt66xRk#)

And by far this has proven the best of all three, with yours having the solid second place. Maybe it's because of the deadly guitar & violin duo that this arrangement is so damn cool.

Still, waiting for what squaretex might come up with.

Since Im here, I can ask for this music with a melancholic, music-box tone? lol

Are you still having takers for this one? lol.  I could do a mix for you and post if you like but it will be in the vein of the guitar version you have posted here. 8)

The guy asked for an LoI-styled arrangement, which differs quite a bit from your usual style. Then again, I don't think LoI's style would work for this track, since LoI's closer to techno while Sorrow's Distortion/Spell of Sorrow is more of a rock track. I personally liked Lacope0/Insomnia Lab's arrangement the best because I felt the violin added a touch of sadness to it, and the context is pretty tragic if you ask me.

True, but then again the youtube vid above shows some heaviness in it so i figured what the hell lol  ;D

BMC, you can do something with this music like they did in Richter VS Alucard "Divine/Oposing Bloodlines", if so I will gadly accept, I love that style and melancholic distortion that changes to action and all lol

Definitely man!  I love doing CV mixes :) Im pretty keen on that stuff as well, i absolutely LOVED the CoD OST, particularly the messenger of darkness 2, friggin love that jam!  Also a close second would be Trevor's theme...kickassness! lmao

BMC, if you'd like, have a go, be my guest. :)

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. The way work has been this week, my impulse has been to "veg out" and be completely unproductive.  ;)

But after seeing all the other contributions that have happened so far - to which I must say ":o" - I knew I better get to work! ;D

So...after about three or four hours, I came up with this:

Castlevania Order of Ecclesia - Sorrow's Distortion (Squaretex arrange) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow-lSMO1-oI#)

As you can see and hear, it's taking a different route from everything else. Since I first stumbled across that other arrangement I posted, the one concept I could not shake was how this tune would sound in a SOTN "Dracula's Castle" framework.

Is it what you need? I'm not really sure. Let's just say it's an experiment I really needed to try. :)

I must say, while it's amazing in its own right, it sounds more like a stage remix rather than a boss theme.

I agree with VladCT, but this remix is impressive, you are very talented.

I agree. It'll be perfect for a stage theme. Accidentally you provided something that's going to be useful for a hidden character, since that boss'll be perfectly unlockable for play. Remember Saturn SOTN, where the initial hallway had a different theme depending on the character that you select? Well, think that music for a hidden char.

Thanks, folks. And I'm pleased to hear that maybe this offbeat take has a place in your project after all.  ;D

If I wasn't such a bum, I would be composing and arranging more. Can you imagine "Silence of Daylight" from Simon's Quest in the style of "Woodcarving Partitia"? Or "Sinking Old Sanctuary" a-la "Outer Wall", including the extra melodies from the CotM version? I can. But so far I've been such a lazy oaf that they're still in my head, and not in MIDI files where everyone ELSE can hear them!  :P

I would suggest then, that you make'em a reality. :D There's never enough mixes, be it for a project or standalone :D

EDIT:

In fact, why wouldn't you try: A Vision of Dark Secrets, arranged with some strong&loud stuff? Make it sound brutal. Jorge's arrangement is decent, but despite being of higher quality than the CotM version, it lacks some of that one's raw drum-like brutality. It'd be interesting to hear what you come up with on that one.

That last submission should've been in Order of Ecclesia's "Albus Mode" as a stage tune instead of "An Empty Tome". :D

Might be interesting...but don't be surprised if I go off on some crazy tangent again. ;)

By the way, I must be blind as a bat (heh heh) or something...but while I can see the Fan MIDI section, I can't find any instructions on how to make submissions. And I'd REALLY like to make my MIDI originals available as I come up with 'em, so that others can get their hands on them and do many crazy soundfont experiments. :D

p.s. ...is it so wrong that I can't resist listening to my own arrangement over and over and over again...? ;)

Yes, you will burn in hell for all eternity in 3, 2, 1.... just kidding, you made a incredible remix, if you likes your own remix, its even better  :)

After listening to it some more, I think it would be better if you were to omit the intro (the whatever-that-string-instrument-was and organ part, I think) when it loops.

I have to admit that even I find that transition a bit clunky. If Dalles does indeed want to integrate it into his final project, I'd be willing to rework it at that time.

Oh, and" Vision of Dark Secrets" is coming along fine...in my head. ;) I was given fair warning that this would be a crazy work week, so I may not get to "write it down" until Friday. I can tell you that triumphant guitars will be involved, and - since the tune itself is so short - something else will be "flown in" to make up the "chorus". You'll see. :D

...I sure am throwing around a lot of quotation marks, aren't I?  :P

Yes, I indeed want to integrate it. I am serious about it.

Good to hear that the other track is progressing along ;)

Alright, now that the long and crazy week is over, let's get back to the music, shall we? :)

There seems to be some agreement that my remix, with both the harpsichord and Beginning-esque guitar sequences at the loop point, makes for a somewhat clunky and overlong wraparound. One of two bits needs to go for the loop.

The question is...which one?

I've prepared two alternate takes to consider, which are in the following 7zip:
www.mediafire.com/?05mmibvheh0bzah (http://www.mediafire.com/?05mmibvheh0bzah)

The first one drops the 'chord in favor of the guitars, which is closer to the layout and spirit of the original. The second drops the guitar in favor of the 'chord, and is actually the one I prefer because it has a better feel for the "Dracula's Castle" stage style I was aiming for.

So...which direction should this piece go in? :)

Simon's Boss Theme, something like they did with Richter's Blood Relations, maybe mixing Theme of Simon with Poison Mind, dunno, since I dont understand not even a "la" or "fa" lol
If information is needed for "inspiration" and you imagine the scene, you only need to ask me  :P

Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, the first one is indeed better. Can't say why. Something just 'rubs me the right way' about it.

Sorry for the late reply.
I'll see your apology for a late replay, and raise my own apology for even later one.  :-[

With the wonky work schedules I've been dealing, and the fact that the job is one of those "annoying but necessary to pay the bills" types, I was pretty much resolving to make all my free time as unproductive and relaxing as possible. And with both Torchlight 2 and Mists of Pandaria in my eager hands, I have wildly succeeded.

But anyway, I knew I just HAD to get this done, so here we are...a final(?) version ready for prime-time. Please drop this into your game project as a test to see how it feels to you. :)
http://www.mediafire.com/?npfg638y3nr142a (http://www.mediafire.com/?npfg638y3nr142a)

p.s. Due to my "enforced laziness", as you might expect, I have NOT worked on any other remixes at all. Best bet? If you still need 'em, please give me a deadline. As a last-minute procrastinator, I can truly say that the time limit will indeed inspire me. ;D
