I've started up a weekly podcast dedicated to Castlevania, since I noticed there wasn't one:
http://castlevania.podbean.com (http://castlevania.podbean.com)
New episodes are on Fridays. Episode 1 is up. The featured topic is the possible influence of "Vampire Hunter D" on Castlevania. There are two (at-this-point outdated) news items regarding Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate and Lords of Shadow 2. There's a weekly section where I look at Simon's role in a Captain N episode; in this case, it's the pilot, "Kevin in Videoland". I also give some recommendations in the Conclusion. This episode is on the long side (30 minutes), since there's a lot of set-up in the Introduction where I talk about myself, Castlevania, and the podcast.
There's a Facebook page for it as well:
http://www.facebook.com/CastlevaniaPodcast (http://www.facebook.com/CastlevaniaPodcast)
As of today, the show is on iTunes as well:

Downloading now. Let you know what I think later.

I will download it when I can. BTW your nick is based in Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon?

Gah, sorry. In my hurry to get it up, I forgot to link the episode in the post.

Interesting podcast. Regarding Bram Stoker's Dracula, I don't know what the original intention of the developers was when Bloodlines came out, but the novel is not exactly part of the storyline. People often point to the offical timeline that contains a short blurb that mentioned Quincy Morris defeated Dracula or something, but it never actually mentions the novel anywhere. There are also some conflicts that make the novel and the games impossible to fit together. I think it's best to think they merely borrowed the Quincy Morris character and waved a Castlevania story around him. Also a little fun fact: the actual novel takes place in 1892 or 1893 while the event on the offical timeline takes place in 1897, which is the year in which the novel was first released.
-
Thanks, now I can hear it. :)

Go back and re read the ending. It was quincy who stabbed ol drac in the heart before dying from his wounds.

I never claimed that scene didn't happen in the novel... :-\

Episode 5 is up! I'm sorry that it's so late. I had it ready on Friday, but a storage limit prevented me from uploading it. I eventually upgraded my account.

Interesting episode. I'm not sure, but I don't think "the tower of Colbert" isn't mentioned at all in original manual of Vampire Killer. The manual says Dracula was sealed in the highest tower of his castle or something. I think whoever translated it messed up.

Yeah, as you can tell by now, there was no new episode yesterday. I was sick (still am a bit), and mom suddenly came home from work after having thrown up, so I had no opportunity to record an episode. There should be one this coming Friday, though.

There won't be a new episode this week. On Monday morning, my computer started failing, and I haven't been able to get it on at all today. I'll have to get a new one, but that will be on December 6 when I can use a 10%-off rebate check at work, so no new episodes until shortly after that.
-
Well,...it seems my computer has officially crashed as of this morning (I'm typing this on my mom's comp). It's been having problems booting up since Monday. I'm going to get a new computer, but, since I work at Wal-Mart, mom told me to wait until December 6, when I can use a 10%-off voucher that I earned for working on Thanksgiving - in addition to my 10% associate discount.
As for the status of my Castlevania files, I think my Castlevania directory was relatively recently backed up. The podcast directory is another story. The backup that I did of it on Monday stopped verification at 31%. My mom's comp won't read the disc, but I put it in my PS3 today, and I could see the directory file names. I'll have to wait to check the disc on my own comp for a final verdict.
When I'll actually get around to working on it again is anybody's guess, though, because, once I do get my new computer, I'll have numerous programs to download and re-install, lots of DVD-Rs and CD-Rs to go through and copy onto my hard drive, and lots and LOTS of YouTube videos and other misc. things to re-download.
The one bright spot (?) is the hard drives themselves might be intact (or at least my main drive; my slave drive suddenly became inaccessible on Monday); it might be the motherboard that's fried (the Gateway logo won't come on). There's a chance that I can someday retrieve my files.
I downloaded my podcat episodes onto my mom's comp - just in case.
-
It's cool, dude.
Glad you're keeping us updated.
-
I got my new comp yesterday and am currently copying files from my DVD-Rs onto it. The master MP3s of episodes 8-10 (and the original raw WAV files of my voice recordings, the planning information, and the edit files thereof) have been lost (unless I can retrieve them off my old hard drives, which I still have), so I'll have to settle for downloaded MP3s of episodes 8-10 (which should be identical, theoretically). Oh, well. New episode next Friday.
-
Episode 11 is up!
Sorry for the long delay. My old computer crashed.

Thank you so much for this. It's great to hear Castlevania get this kind of exposure.

No problem! :) There was no episode yesterday or last Friday because of lack of time to record (this week, it was because mom came home from work sick on the day that I was going to record). Basically, I need the house to myself to record an episode. Anyway, there will be a new episode this coming Friday.

Also a little fun fact: the actual novel takes place in 1892 or 1893 while the event on the offical timeline takes place in 1897, which is the year in which the novel was first released.
This is why I have often wished for a Castlevania Edition of Dracula, perhaps as a collectible extra released with a future CV title or even as a standalone game or visual novel. I even requested it as an unlockable in the Castlevania Anthologies petition (www.change.org/petitions/castlevania-anthologies (http://www.change.org/petitions/castlevania-anthologies)). I have always assumed that the characters and basic story flow of Bram Stoker's novel were similar in CV lore with minor adjustments to time frame and other details. And if you're referring to John Morris' age and how it would've been impossible for a two-year-old child to follow Quincey around during the hunt for Dracula, I have a loose theory on that...
Quincey was not trained to use the Vampire Killer. We're not even sure if he knew about his Belmont connection or whether he possessed the whip or not. But we DO know that John got it from somewhere. In all likelihood, the Vampire Killer either came into contact with Quincey (perhaps even post-mortem or at his grave), or it could have come into contact with the Bowie knife he used against Dracula. Whichever the case, the Vampire Killer's supernatural qualities may have given John flashbacks of his father's mortal battle against the dark lord, resulting in false memories. And as far as Quincey being Lucy's suitor goes, well, he seemed like a bit of a playboy and may have illegitimately conceived John with another woman a few years before. Or we could assume that John's mother was just one of many female tragedies in the Castlevania timeline.
Fudging the 1897 time discrepancy isn't a big deal, as it simply matches the 1797 SotN resurrection reset caused by Shaft.
I would also like to see a CV edition of Dracula establish that Prof. Abraham Van Hellsing was somehow connected to Ecclesia alongside Shanoa and Albus. If that's true, Van Hellsing himself may have been aware of Quincey's blood connection to the Belmonts. Perhaps he would have been the one entrusted with the Vampire Killer before passing it to John in his father's abscence. That could even explain the false memory thing that I mentioned before...
Just some thoughts.
