Title: DOUBLE FINE SALE - 50% off all DL games, plus DLC (10/14-10/15) XBLA
Post by: Vampire Killer on October 14, 2012, 10:00:26 PM
Double Fine is having a 50% off sale, effective till the end of 10/15.

I'm only aware of it being on XBLA, but it might be on other platforms as well.

I just picked up Iron Brigade (and am loving it so far) for $5. I also nabbed the DLC for Stacking for 200msp (about $2.50)

Anyhoo, the following are on sale for today and tomorrow...

Costume Quest - reminded me a lot of Mario RPG, and is the best damn Halloween game ever created

Iron Brigade - a WWII alternate history tower defense game, wherein the good guys (you) have mech like vehicles which can be heavily customized (the players character can be customized too). You can also lay stationary defense turrets of different types and power. I played the demo, not being particularly interested but thinking I'd just give it a shot seeing as it's a Double Fine game, by the time I got to the end of the first level though I was sold (especially for only $5). As with other DF games, I find myself laughing quite often while playing.

Stacking - a puzzle game where you....you know what. Just go watch the trailer. Also a laugh riot.

All three games have DLC available as well, also %50 off.

Cool. I adore Costume Quest and Stacking so I took a leap on Iron Brigade and its add-on. I don't know when I'll get around to playing it, but I'm all for supporting Double Fine further. I can't help but wish they'd make a Peanuts game for some reason...

If anyone could do a decent Peanuts game, it's Double Fine.

So far I'm liking Iron Brigade quite a bit. There's quite a bit of customization allowed to your Trench (the mech you pilot). The character you choose even makes a difference in that he'll say different things. So far the British guy is my favorite. The game can be fairly forgiving too. If you don't finish a level with all medals, you can come back to it later on when you're more powerful.

Love Costume Quest! Can't say enough good things about it. It really nailed how Halloween felt to me as a kid. Well, except that I never had to fight off grumpkins for candy. But I was able to turn into a giant robot. Runs in the family.

The Double Fine deal is running on Steam, too.

I'm curious why Psychonauts is no longer available as an Xbox Original. You can still find it if you do a search, but there's barely any info and I'm guessing if I fill my virtual wallet and make the purchase, it won't go through. I own it three times already for PC ($2 Steam sale, Humble Bundle, and found a physical copy with box in my brother's old car), but haven't gotten around to playing it 'cos sitting at a couch is so much more enjoyable. I oughta just get my own PC already and hook it to my TV via HDMI.

I noticed that too. I had actually bought Psychonauts off of XBL (second time purchasing, as I somehow lost my original copy for my xbox), but eventually deleted from my HD to make room for more games (stupid 20gig HDD). A few days ago, I finally switched all my important files to a 60gig so I could re-DL Psychonauts. At first, when it couldn't find it listed I was prepared to start throwing poop, but then I found it using the search function. Almost a 4gig file, so it took practically all night to DL. If it's still available to purchase, it would probably go through, seeing as it let me re-DL it.

The PC controls are very awkward sadly. A console port if I ever saw one.

Anyone know if I buy a physical Xbox copy of the game if it'll run well on the 360? I heard the director campaigned to have it run smoothly but I wasn't sure if that only applied to the Xbox Originals download. I might as well just get a disc copy if it'll play the same. Only got like 2 gigs left on the HDD.

Same problem I had. Anyhoo, I honestly don't know. It could work great, but then it could completely tank. I have the disc version of Ninja Gaiden Black, and it crashes at around mid-2nd level every damn time. It really depends how diligent they were with the emulation.

I think the best place to find out is probably the Official Double Fine Psychnauts Forums...

Someone on there should know. Hope that helps.
