What d'ya folks recommend in terms of free software to put together a video? Not a video necessarily, but just placing a still image with a song. I had some software once, but instead of using a single frame, it made like a million frames of the same image and made the video file HUGE.
I just wanna use something that'll get me good audio qualityz onlinez. In particular, I wanna upload some of the Bowie mixes of The Stooges' Raw Power, 'cos that 1997 remaster is awful and it's all I ever find on YouTube.

What about Windows Movie Maker?

What about Windows Movie Maker?
I'm using Windows Movie Maker and i am really satisfied with the results. So i second that.

Windows Movie Maker is awesome.... when it works (it doesn't like my system).
I record videos with Hypercam3 (expired version so there's a 'hypercam 3' watermark) when it's off of a window.
But I use Virtualdub (free and awesome tool) to piece together videos if they're off of slides or off of pictures. Although it won't let me add 32bit audio or MP3s (well, it does... but then it won't do interleaving with 32-bit files natively so you gotta get a plugin) it does a great job with many other things because it allows you to download and run custom plug-ins people have created.
All of my music videos are done with Hypercam and Virtualdub.

Like most people have said windows movie maker is good. Also it's easy to use if you don't have any experience in video editing. Just be warned if you go this route it likes to crash... at least for me anyways.

It likes to crash for me pretty much all the time. That's why I use Virtualdub instead.

I had WMM on my older pc's, and it never wanted to work. Shit would crash and fuck up my system, making shit work all weird, meaning I had to reboot. I should dl it some time and give it another shot. There was another program now I dont remember though...
EDIT: oh right, Camtasia. You'd have to pirate a full version though.
