Title: Unconfirmed MoF/LOS2 rumors from a alleged beta tester (spoiler's abound)
Post by: Kingshango on December 11, 2012, 08:59:16 PM
Earlier in the day I come across a LOS2 thread from 4Chan, now don't call bullshit just yet tho. As early as January, info about MoF and LOS2 have leaked from that site and majority of it was spot on. So he was willing to share some minor gameplay info and a potentially major character spoiler regarding Lords of Shadow 2 amongst other things:

He said the game was fine, just dont expect it to be on top 10 best games like SOTN was.

The game is portable so the whip attacks are reduced to just the useful but not overpowered ones. they are shared between all characters.
Instead there is more focus on player mobility, MoF requires more dodging, air dodging jumping and gliding in combat.
Then each character has a set of two magics and two secondary weapons that work pretty different. But he thinks that Trevor's are a little OP.

From his experiences with the four campaigns:

Simon has the best exploration
Trevor has the best platforming
Alucard has the best combat
Gabriel's prologue  is basically the tutorial level to show you the ropes and set the tone of the game

Lords of Shadow 1 is getting a PC release and the embargo will be lifted soon.

The soundtrack is still the usual epic orchestral flare like LOS1 but there are some nice tunes as well, nicer than LOS1 at least but YMMV

Simons voice actor is set to be apart of Lords of Shadow 2, the character he's playing is (warning, character spoiler.)
(click to show/hide)

I tried to get him to answer weather Trevor is Alucard or not but he didn't wanna spoil it. He did however say that
(click to show/hide)

Alucard has the classic stopwatch subweapon and has the ability to shoot a barrage of bats.

Each Dracula fight plays out different, with multiple stages. He didn't say if Dracula had any final forms however due to not wanting to give away too much.

There is no extra mode like Richter mode but the game is lenghty, with each campaign taking up to 5 to 6 hours or longer if you %100 it

As for classic monsters, he said that quite a few recognisable monster are in, he didn't go into specifics though. But he was happy to mention that Mermen still spit fire and other types of Mermen shoot lightning and poison.

That was about all he could say before vanishing, Like I said before, take with a grain of salt, don't kill me if they're false and pray the ninjas don't kill me if they're true.

wait, he didn't want to spoil the 1 major thing that is on fans minds (Alucard=Trevor)?

Thats the one thing I was looking forward to being spoiled about since I wanted to get that out the way.

While their are some things I like about the spoiler such as Julius Belmont being in LOS2 with Simon's voice actor, I did not like hearing that there will not be any unlockable modes for Mirror of Fate.

Wait Simon and Julius have the same VA? If that's true that sounds lazy.

Nothing major, so far, aside from Julius being present in LOSverse.
Glad to see another confirmation about possible release of LOS on PC. I hope the game will be ported well and with all DLC included into the game already.

If this is true, then Trevor and Alucard apparently having the same voice actor is starting to make alot more sense.

I wasn't going to view this, but, at this point I have come to terms with the fact that LoS is just about dead to me and I really don't care if it's spoiled. There is nothing much left to spoil anyway, seeing as it's all a predictable slop.

Cant say Julius surprises me. He's THE go to "Modern Day Belmont", and fan favorite due to his badass facial hair. (Though Simon has got some competition for him now!)

Of course, again, it is yet to be seen if any of this holds up.

Cox has stated on more than one occasion that LOS2 has no narrator.
And as far as the Belmont in LOS2, natural choice considering his backstory in the old timeline.
And how is that considered lazy to use the same talent for his voice actor? Seems more like cost efficiency.

If all these rumors stand true, then one thing comes to my mind. It's like the movie trailers, were they put all the best scenes there to attract you to go and see the movie, but when you go and see the movie, the only thing you are end up doing, is looking your watch waiting, when the movie will end and have this torture end.

Torture for you. LOS is the best game for me in this console generation. I wish I could use Alucard in LOS2?? Yess, clearly. Somewhat disappointed, but I thought that both MoF and LOS2 going to be the best of 2013. Day one!! sure.

Don't get me wrong, but when they are showing you on trailers some things and getting your hopes high, only to find that only half of what you have seen is going to be playable, then you'll get disappointed. This doesn't mean i want buy and play the game, only that i was expecting too much and that i ended getting much less.

Eh, can't they just think of a new name for this Belmont character? I'm a bit disappointed we're only getting one "original" Belmont character out of this continuity.

Wouldn't say 1999, but it could be LoS's version of those events.

Considering LoS2 is based around Dracula as the main character, (funny how I once said it would be cool if they made a game where you play as Dracula and fight a Belmont) Julius will likely be a boss character. That's not to say he couldn't be playable ala Aria of Sorrow, but it's doubtful. Not like LoS1 gave us playable Zobek or anything. (I'm still waiting on that, MS) Though LoS2 seems to have a much more massive scale than LoS1, so who knows.

I love these Rumor Mill threads for upcoming games.

I remember when Aria of Sorrow came out, and the huge big rumor flying around was that Arikado was Alucard. Obvious in retrospect, yeah, but at the time SotN was still on everyone's mind and people were looking for a good sequel, so it was kind of a big deal. Then there was everything surrounding Soma.....

Good times.

Thing is about rumors surrounding Castlevania, they normally end up being true.  In fact, I think every Castlevania from the past 9 years had rumors behind it that turned out to be true.

The only rumors I have very slight doubts about are Alucard being a narrator in one of the games and Simon Belmonts voice actor playing Julius Belmont. ( I do however believe that Julius is the "new" Belmont Cox is talking about.)  Everything else seems very likey to check out.

It's nice that the loS is almost the whole Castlevania condensed in 3 games. That idea is kind of romantic, and I like it.

Really hope that LoS PC thing turns out to be true. I'll probably get MoF because 3DS game that's Castlevania, but LoS I'd much rather get on PC than anything else.

Does a Belmont always have to be someone who carries a whip and sub-weapons? What if there was a brother? Is he not able to fight monsters for the sake of humanity just because his brother wields the "holy grail" of all weapons. Do the parents of the non whip wielding Belmont develop thick Indian accent and say, "Beta, you're not cut out to be a Vampire hunter like your brother Richter, you're a failure. Just become a doctor, lawyer or an engineer."

I think it would be nice to see a non-whip wielding Belmont for once and see his perspective on what it feels like not being the heir to the whip, especially if he is stronger and smarter than the chosen one... but the Belmonts may have shitty rituals like "The first born child will heir the Vampire Killer, even if he's physically handicap or whether the younger child is a fighting prodigy. Rules are rules." But this concept suits a game made by IGA and it sounds like something he would do... Jealousy and not being granted something promised is a common theme in his recent CVs, especially OoE.

It would be nice to have "Non-Belmont Belmont" as a combat character, not something exactly like Johnathan Morris but, you get the idea. Something like this guy... "The Rival" or more commonly known "Hanz Belmont".

Johnatthan was pretty young in POR, so I would say he would be somewhere in his late to mid 70s by 1999.

Not to mention they COULD just make an all new Belmont. But Julius is the fan favorite, and doing a final climactic showdown between Dracula, the forces of Satan, and the Belmont Bloodline- Anyone other than Julius just wouldnt feel quite the same. (Considering this most likely will turn out to be MS version of the Demon Castle War)

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing MS's take on Julius Belmont and the "battle of 1999" should the rumors be true.

I know some call it lazy or unoriginal but I think bringing such a fan favorite into the fold will benefit them in the long run.

Especially if the belmonts in question look as good as Trevor and Simon look in Mirror of Fate.

Also something i would like to know is that LOS2 is confirmed to take place in 2 different time periods correct?

One in what appears to be 1100 to 1300s where Gabucula is fighting nights and soldiers from his castle while the other is in the modern day times where Gabriel wakes up shriveled and missing his memory.

So my question is, who will the Belmont be during the flashback period?

We already have Julius suspected of filling the role in the modern part, but there would have to be a belmont for the flashback part, and I believe Cox confirmed that Simon and Trevor would not be in LOS2.

So my guess is another obvious fan favorite Richter Belmont.

Thoughts?

But, if this happens... Having mercurysteam's take on the untold Demon Castle Wars... Would you call that a closure of not just LoS trilogy, but of the original timeline as well? Because then I don't see Konami ever touching that tale again, once it's been told. Double Closure? Where's M. Night? This is a twisty as f***.

uhhh, obviously no.

LOS takes place in a completely different universe and also has a much different storyline than the original.

So obviously it could not provide "closure" to a universe it isn't even a part of.

Still, If the rumors are true, seeing the Demon Castle War play out in a different continuity first instead of the main canon will be kinda bittersweet.  :(

And to add to it, next year marks the 10 year anniversary of AoS, the story of the Demon Castle War and the introduction of Julius Belmont himself.

Well, he said Simon would not be in LoS 2- that could just mean he isnt a boss or anything, but might could still be the one to seal Dracula in a cutscene.

otherwise, Richter seems a pretty safe bet for an inbetween Belmont, between eras. I mean, if they are bringing out heavyweights like Trevor and Simon, and possibly Julius if the rumors are true- then they might as well go all out and bring in the other fan favorite Belmont right? Especially since they really seem to want to do something with Alucard in both MoF and LoS2.

OR, Alucard could defeat him ala SoTN and be the one who then seals him...

Im really excited about LoS2 more than MoF because theres really little precedent for it. MoF leads into it, but MoF is really just another castlevania. LoS2 has you however, as the main antagonist, fighting off the brotherhood, then time skipping you to the present day, which is the REAL mystery here. What they will do with it.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that they will start you off in the past, as the all powerful annihilator of everything for a little while, maybe just a quick boss fight, And then take your candy away and seal you up and toss you into modern day all decrepit and without your powers... Which you slowly regain.

I always figured Jonathan was the one who eventually sought out and found young Julius and trained him(naturally, many years before 1999).

You have to ask yourself what does DCW mean to you. The most replied answer will be, "A game that stars Julius Belmont in 1999 or Modern Times. Which may include Alucard as well and together, they finally defeat Dracula for good."

Now, if Mercurysteam does 'satisfy' these criteria in LoS2, wouldn't that conclude DCW as well and tell LoS2's tale too? Except, you may or may not play as Julius since LoS2 will be all about Dracul's gameplay, let alone that we don't know if Alucard is even playable yet. They may retell DCW in their way. If this happens, do you believe they will go back to the original timeline and make another DCW game? I don't think so. The only thing left to tell in the old timeline is the 1999 game, which also was supposed to explain the disappearance of the Belmonts. Now even if MoF and LoS2 don't add the "Disappearance" and the "Hakubas", wouldn't it still be a DCW game?

Now I'm saying that I'm supporting this or disapproving this. All I'm saying is that consider this as a possibility. Because again, Konami may not go back to the old timeline if the trilogy ends up being successful. My theory in this is that Konami actually wants to conclude LoS2, while conclude DCW's chapter as well. It won't be the same as IGA planned, but they're probably trying to make this as satisfactory as possible.

Now, if they manage to do this, there will be another reboot and this will not be a temporary trilogy. It will be a new series, completely new. And they'll go in that perticular direction for success as LoS trilogy did. Will you be able to accept that?

Honestly, if they would do what you're suggesting, and try to convince fans that they should see LoS 2 as a substitute for the 1999 event, then that would be dumbest freaking thing ever. My respect for MercurySteam would then drop to absolutely nothing.

I dont know why anyone would want to think of it as a substitute for the real deal. What it would be however, is more or less MS own version of the "climactic final battle" between the Belmonts and Dracula. And it would be funny that they delivered while IGA never did with the old timeline. (and never will, because it would never live up to expectations and lore hype, especially with IGA's flaws as far as game design)

This concept was realized once to the "T", though, not with Belmonts - in COTM with Nathan and Hue. Ressurection could have provided in this regard.

If LOS2 really become something like LOSverse version of DCW, I don't think it will affect DCW version of the original timeline in anyway possible, because Konami will never make one:

I think that's the advantage of MercurySteam's approach. A lot of people might have gotten all over their butts for it, but by distancing themselves from the original lore, they can explore some the areas IGA never got to with little to no expectations.

MS should not touch to IGA's timeline and vice versa. Is it that hard to accept? MS' 1999 is not IGA's.

Based on what I've heard, MoF will be starring Trevor Belmont, Simon Belmont, and Alucard fighting Gabriel/Dracul in different time periods.  LoS2 seems to be all about Dracul in the Mondern Era building off the post credits cutscene in LoS1.  This thread is the first I've heard of Julius Belmont in this universe.

I've also seen this trailer:
[New & Official] Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 - VGA Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuWQo3ti96g#ws)
Based on this trailer, it looks like Dracul has been in a dormant state for who knows how long, which is in line with that post-credits cutscene in LoS1.  From what I gather, LoS2 is going to be about Dracul regaining his powers and preventing Satan's return.  My guess is that if the Julius Belmont rumor is true, it would be either like in MoF with multiple stories each with different characters that together and make up the overall story of the game, or Julius Belmont will be a boss in the game.  Though, my guess is that most of the gameplay will be of Dracul.

Well in that case Alucard has to be playable then. I mean they have too make him playable in some (DLC or otherwise). They have the sword gameplay mechanics and it'll sort of make up for teasing us with Alucard and his sword in MoF and then give him a whip instead.

HO HO HO so people think upon the conclusion of LoS2 the Dragon will be redeemed? that's poppycock!

I don't like the idea of Dracula being forgiven of his sins "you defeated Satan, all is OK now u can come to Heaven," like some new-age Darth Vader figure. Seeing the LoS saga as the "rise, fall and redemption of Gabriel SkywalkerBelmont," an "epic tragedy" leaves a bad taste in my mouth (http://devotions4misfits.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/michael-scott.jpg). The "sympathetic war-hero-turned badass" schtick has been used sooo many times in multiple games, I really hope they don't make it happen yet again

Just have Dracula be forever killed in a spectacular & gruesome manner & be done with it. I don't wanna see him revert to his good side the last 5 minutes as Marie's ghost appears by his side. Bleh. That'll be so fucking cheesy and not in a good way. But who am I kidding, that's prolly how it's gonna happen

I do, it falls in line with Bram Stoker's Dracula. Dracula originally wasn't a bad person he just happened to turn evil because he felt he got screwed out of life when his wife was taken from him.

Well that was from Francis Ford Coppola's version. In the original book Dracula was just a regular ol' rapey dick.

Castlevania was never pinnacle of originality, when it comes to the storyline, so LOS didn't do worse in that regard.

Gabriel will be redeemed there's no doubt about that. If anything, it seems that Gabriel was /intended/ to turn into dracula to defeat the greater evil, as Satan said "Your destiny is alreay writtten" or something like that, marie says "You are as god intended" too. I mean, Marie SAW who he was going to be in the mirror of fate that's why they hid Trevor from him, yet she helped him.

Also, there's a little bit that I feel we're missing.
The press release(o the trailerdescription, IDK) says Dracula is in a feud with THE BROTHERHOOD, there's no clue yet if he's in a war against humanity, he doesn't seem too. Pehaps the brotherhood is evil or something.

Well in that case Alucard has to be playable then. I mean they have too make him playable in some (DLC or otherwise). They have the sword gameplay mechanics and it'll sort of make up for teasing us with Alucard and his sword in MoF and then give him a whip instead.

If there is dlc what should it be. If the game only goes around Dracula and alucard then it should be about the belmonts and what they have been doing since the disappearance of Dracula.  Or if not make it good dlc not 10 dollar dlc for 1 hour of gameplay that was a kick in the sack -_-

Very true but I always thought Francis Ford Coppola's take on that really helps it come full circle.
Especially with Gabriel who was a good person originally, it just makes sense...

Yep, it is in my mind. And Dawn of Sorrow never existed, and if it did, the real game wa the Julius game with julius ending.

Dawn's bad end simply causes the cycle to start all over again. Then again, im sure many here wouldn't mind Castlevania going on far into the future.

I thought it ended just fine with Dracula being ended once and for all, reincarnated as a Human again, to live his life out with his current loved one.

Besides, Alucard hinted that there is always possibility of another Dark Lord. Dracula was holding this position for almost millenium, but that doesn't mean, that he always should be the Dark Lord.

I thought Aria of Sorrow was the perfect ending to the series, Soma being Mathias' second chance at human life. Dawn of Sorrow went and continued that portion of the series and in the end made Soma and friends overstay their welcome.

There's no need for me to see the 1999 Demon Castle War, and it's definitely not the "closure the timeline needs" since I thought that's what Aria was. I like the DCW as a legend like it currently is, and I know that if Konami ever made a game for it, it would fall below expectation.

I'm excited to see MS' take on the final destruction of Dracula. If it does end with Gabe redeeming himself in the end, I hope it's a powerful scene.

I still think it would've been interesting if Aria was the beginning and end of the Soma story, and DoS(or, considering my idea, could've been called something else entirely) should've been a full game based on the novel follow-up with Julius training his successor, Curtis Lang, the appearance of Michelle Danasty and Olrox(Orlock) seeking to take the mantle of Dracula and become the new "Dark Lord"(as well as taking hold over Graham Jone's ex-cultists). Leave Soma and co. behind, let Drac rest in peace and continue on with a new main vampire villain. It would also be an interesting nod to Nosferatu being the unofficial Dracula.

HOHOHO I keep reading people say "1999 will never live up to expectations," well what exactly are people expecting? Some AAA Game of the Year title, for it to be 100x better than Symphony with controls like SCIV & extreme difficulty like CVIII? Or the ultimate 3D experience with DMC3-like stage design & top-notch fluid controls with little to no glitches? Or a game only WayForward can do? Some people will never be satisfied unless they release another 2D CV on a home console [that's not downloadable].

I know what to expect from IGA/Konami by now, and imo IGA was on the right track with OoE, so perhaps by now he might have delivered an excellent 1999 game (it may not have been an instant classic like Symphony or CVIII, but neither was AoS but that didn't stop me from enjoying it regardless). Unless of course you were expecting "the king of all metroivanias/2D games." Just give me a game that has good platforming (again i'm not expecting a Mario Bros-esque platformer), sharp graphics, good controls/play style/combat, slap 1999 in the story & I'm happy. That's not asking too much, yet it's all capable & has been done before (by IGA or other producers).

it seems most people want Konami to almost exceed their expectations, instead of meeting them (which isn't bad, but like i said, i know how Konami treats CV & know what to expect from them, so i'm not gonna set myself up for disappointment by putting 1999 on a high, almost unattainable pedestal ((it's a shame most people here already have)). only way they can truly disappoint me is if they make it into "Judgment 2")

Since it's crucial turning point in the Castlevania storyline, obviously people expecting the game based on those events to be the best Castlevania experience ever created, no matter, 2D or 3D.

I personally not sure, what I'd like to see in this game, since 2D doesn't look ambitious enough for this kind of story and 3D...I am not really sure, if they can create 3D Castlevania, that  channels "IGAvanias" spirit in the modern times. LOI was perfect for midieval times in terms of atmosphere, but DCW needs something different.

I think that the 1999 game hasn't been done because the setting is very different from the average CV game. I mean it's supposed to be in the middle of a 3rd world war, right? How would you go about setting up a CV game with that as the back drop? It certainly couldn't just be a simple 'metroidvania'. Plus the expectations for such a game, realistic or not, would be very high precisely because it has become a legendary thing among fans.
That said, I think if they took some care with it it has the potential to be a fantastic addition to the old canon. As long as they don't do it like Metroid: Other M where they set up a great setting and then ruined it with a completely convoluted story that made no sense and belittled a beloved character.

Take Just Cause 2. Place it, instead of a topical island, inside much of Transylvania. Replace the grappling hook with the whip (because really now), and make it so the user can collect multiple weapons. Ideally there'd be more of a focus on melee combat, so something like DMC+JC2 is probably the sort of idea of where we want to take it.

Adapting the sort of open-world nature of something like JC2 strikes me as the best idea given the nature of the series as a whole, and the  JC2 scenario certainly means it would be well-suited to conveying a wartime scenario.

I always envisioned my DCW starting with an airplane headed to Transylvania, filled with soldiers being briefed regarding the situation, and Julius accompanying them. Talk like, "England, Japan, among other nations' forces are already there..." and soldier talk like, "A little late to the barbeque" and "THIS kid is the fuckin savior? He's just a snot nosed teenaged brat!!", jokes regarding the situation and Julius. Then, a swarm of giant bats(Phantom Bats) attack the plane, the soldiers that aren't killed start parachuting down(one notices Julius isn't following, and Julius tells him he'll be right behind him). Julius makes his way to the cockpit as a phantom bat slams head first into it(basically ripping off the top, and taking out his whip, Julius latches onto the bat and starts fucking it up. The the bat carries him away from the falling plane as other phantom bats head towards them, setting their sights on Julius, he leaps from the dying bat to another and starts wailing on them. Meanwhle, outside of a Romanian village(maybe modern Jova), where all the surviving soldiers have gathered, they see the plane go down and think the worst("Well, looks like the savior's dead. We're fucked, aren't we?!"). Then, "Incoming!!", the bodies of the giant bats fall, crashing into the surrounding forest, and last, Julius via parachute, letting it go before touching down and falling into crouching position. That's just the intro, LOL! ;D

^I imagined the ending to your intro of Julius landing in the crouch from the parachute much the same way Naked Snake did so in the intro to MGS3.

Julius will stand up, toss his hair back with dramatic music, show a close-up of his face, and on the screen it will say

Julius Belmont (insert actor name here)

I've always thought that the DCW should be played on the more classic style of game play rather then going the Metridvania route. And that the opening scene along with the first few stages should be more hard, fast-paced action oriented to let the player know that they are in the middle of a full-scale war, kinda like Contra. But once inside the confides of Castlevania then the game can slow down a notch and take it's time. And if it had to be done in 3D then do it in the style of CV64/LoD except without the exploration and puzzles. In essence like the cancelled Dreamcast CV game was to be like.

Nice intro DragonSlayr81! But was Julius a teen in 1999 or a young man?

He's 19, last of the teens, a few years shy of being 21. It's that age where you are(at least in America), old enough but not "old enough". It would be an interesting aspect of Julius to go into, especially if he was to eventually start having doubts that he COULD do what others are expecting him to do. Of course, with my intro, in my idea, he CAN do phenomenal things, but even people who can do phenomenal things can have doubts about their own abilities. It would also be an interesting side comparison with the whole thing regarding a DCW game having high expectations. Julius would come to points where he asks himself, "Can I really live up to my ancestors?". Of course, we know he does live up to them, and defeats Dracula once and for all! ;)

That all sounds pretty exciting, but where would Alucard be in all this?  We all know that with a battle this gigantic, he would have to be involved.  Hell, it's the final battle against Dracula.  And, I assume the idea to seal the castle inside the darkness of the eclipse was his idea.  While, Alcuard could have gone back to sleep after the events of SotN, we don't know that he did.  He could have been traveling the world and researching a way to put an end to Dracula for good.

I think that's what he did too. Alucard would very much be a part of it. My guess is that he has somehow made the threat known and has reached out to various other "mystical" organizations of the world. That he's the one who hears of the Hakuba priests, and, becoming an ally to the Japanese government as the mysterious Genya Arikado, enlists them to help combat the evil. Meanwhile, I'm guessing a Belnades(who becomes mother or father of Yoko, perhaps meeting and falling in love with one of the Japanese agents sent with Arikado and Hakuba) is allied with the church, and is also sent to heart of the fray. My idea is it IS going to be a World War type scenario, and various countries sending troops are also sending some of their holy warriors too to aid Julius, Alucard/Arikado and the others. Of course, not all prove their mettle(some might even fall under the influence of Dracula and turn against Julius and co.).

I think Neobelmont meant a DCW game set in the original timeline, in which it would be Dracula.
