Title: Special version 3DS console (tuned), if Konami wants ..
Post by: Bergaron on December 13, 2012, 07:32:55 AM
A person who works in marketing for a major chain of distribution of electronic products (games, computers, appliances ...) has asked nintendo if they intend to make a special version (tuned) of the 3DS or 3DSXL with Castlevania (like they did with zelda ..). Many customers have asked, arises because many people buy the 3DS just for this game. Nintendo has not responded either yes or no, in principle very interested in them because it's the most important game of the 3DS in the next six months and want to top the sales and combat the console market second-hand (there are a lot in Spain ) with an exclusive model. But there is a major problem, Castlevania is not a franchise of Nintendo, and Nintendo has just done these things with their franchises (legal and economic suppose, because usually the pack console+game was cheaper.). But if they reach an agreement with Konami they are interested.

I would like to write to Konami Japan to seek to reach an agreement with Nintendo and release a 3DS model with the game in a pack.  :P

Only imagine they would do with these pictures we have... especially XL that has much more size cover.  :o :o :o

I don't think this game will sell as well as you're thinking. It'll have moderate sales, no need for a special version of 3DS for that.

Yes is very Hard, because Nintendo never lauch a special edition with a no own game. But is 25th anniversary (was 2011 but.), who khows...

Why do you have the same avatar than me?

...Er...

I don't think they'll do a special 3DS pack for MoF or another CV game. They only do it for Nintendo franchises, such as Zelda or Mario. But it would be cool.

I see images like this Pokemon (http://backend.meristation.com/files/imagecache/inline/imagenes/noticias/2012/11/12/el3ds_07.jpg?1352724283), Zelda (http://www.edicioncoleccionista.com/wp-content/gallery/3ds-25-aniv-zelda/edicion-coleccionista-nintendo-3ds-edicion-limitada-25-aniversario-legend-of-zelda-foto-1.jpg), Mario (http://img.vidaextra.com/2010/09/dsi-xl-25-aniversario.jpg). And it breaks my heart just thinking that Castlevania does not have its own version ..

They have released special edition DS's for a few non-firstparty titles, so it's not impossible:

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fvideogames.techfresh.net%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2007%2F02%2Fffrw011.jpg&hash=14e644cfa70c2497805a35e74fa810473c5f3c4e)
This game did not do that well.  It was a pretty OK game but nothing ground-breaking.

(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamesniped.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2008%2F09%2Fnintendo-ds-final-fantasy-white-le-iii.jpg&hash=6121963d310aee498eae0fce6d8885795c200bdf)
This game did much better.  Very cute game. :)

The 3DS has gotten some love as well... though it's usually in Japan.  They always get the coolest stuff, like this:
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-zm3j84BM_S4%2FT19jttt55KI%2FAAAAAAAALm4%2FOGIA32dql2s%2Fs1600%2FNintendo_3DS_Gundam_Bundle03.jpg&hash=29b5d2072a2325ed745b6ea38171451dba368aaa)

And this:
(https://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstorage.siliconera.com%2Fwordpress%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2012%2F01%2Fkingdom_hearts_3ds_thumb.jpg&hash=50492816d3702e2c9518684d4e8dc72de182d7e9)

I would imagine that Mirror of Fate, if it did go the Limited 3DS Bundle release way, would do so in Europe, as MercurySteam's stuff is centered around Europe...

Pretty much as Jorge has said, it's not unheard of (outside of the states) for non-1st party titles to get special editions of consoles (heck Sony did limited edition Metal Gear themed PSPs and PS3s for the states too!) so a special CV version of the 3DS is plausible. Getting it stateside? Probably not, but as Jorge also pointed out a Euro only version is probably the most likely.

Though if we did get a special 3DS XL for MoF in the states, I would definitely buy one (though I already own a 3DS).

WoW did not know those models!. I guess it would come out only an Japan. I wish we could give Nintendo and Konami reaching interest in a special edition of the 3DS, it seems that if t must pack, it's something.

Even if there have been customized 3DS consoles for 3rd party games in the past, we're still talking about games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and such. Castlevania is sadly enough not even half as popular as those franchises. But yeah, I guess it could happen. Especially since the first Lords of Shadow performed reasonably well, so maybe expectations for Mirror of Fate are a little bit higher than usual in this series recent history.

Still, there is a problem in making a sequel to a PS3/XB360 game and releasing it on a Nintendo handheld. It's an entirely new target audience. Most of us in here play on multiple different consoles and handhelds, regardless of the brand, but many of the people who'll buy Mirror of Fate may never even have played the first game. So I'm not sure how "strong" this game really is... Though Castlevania was reasonably popular on the DS, of course.

Same problem I have the zelda version who would have thought that konami is even having a thought of making a cv3ds version yet, I know one thing it would look 100 times better than that f-ing pikachu, or kingdom hearts one( how the heck is that series so popular and cv not it makes no freaking sense oh wait.....)

But on the other hand tobe gundam!!! That red one is hot  :)

Was there not a fire emblem bundle as well?

Is MoF that important? Then why release it right next to luigi's mansion that seems to be the talk of the town right now from my understanding  :o

Yes, it's strange, I'll tell you what I know (warning: almost all rumors are nothing confirmed from official sources, MS keeps its secrets well)

The game was announced for December 2012, perfect date, not many strong competition in 3DS. But ..... development problems (framerates and some complaints during E3 ..). The game was delayed as you all know. The problem is that just finish it and can sell it at the latest in early March (duplication, distribution, etc. ..) Can delay until summer? NO because on July to September is expected los2 not have to be so close to launch. And Nintendo and fans .. want to play as soon as possible (because it is a game-consoles sold) Nintendo did not like the game delayed because there is not in this Christmas season..

Matches other major titles at launch, yes, it's a shame .. but there is no alternative.

And.. Raise your hand if you know someone who is going to buy the 3DS just for this game ... That's the point for Nintendo. Those who buy the Luigi game are already customer of 3DS is another audience that wants to capture, so the game is so important for them.

I wish I had a Char Aznable 3DS...

anywho, I would love to see CV themed 3DS even though I have one, I'd still buy it. But part of me hopes there isn't, cause that's a lot of cash to spend. Hoping at least for a special edition of the game

Oh look... well stablished franchise's special editions... that's nice and all... but Castlevania don't sell well on the east. The chances of a special edition are almost zero.

Unlike the Char 3DS the Char PSP could still play US games.  ;)

I'm surprised with the amount of Gundam fans around here (or at least knowledgeable of Gundam memes....), and here I thought I was the only one!  ;D

Oh look... well stablished franchise's special editions... that's nice and all... but Castlevania don't sell well on the east. The chances of a special edition are almost zero.

You know that Gundam 3DS? The game that came out with it SD Gundam G Generations only sold .16 Million units (in Japan only).

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow sold .10 million units in Japan. .11 million units if you count 360 sales.

(Sources: http://www.vgchartz.com/game/35059/castlevania-lords-of-shadow/ (http://www.vgchartz.com/game/35059/castlevania-lords-of-shadow/) http://www.vgchartz.com/game/70368/sd-gundam-g-generation-3d/ (http://www.vgchartz.com/game/70368/sd-gundam-g-generation-3d/))

So, while it is true that FF, KH and even FE sell much better than Gundam or Castlevania titles, it doesn't necessarily mean that they cannot/will not see a special edition console released for them. I agree the chances are low, but I wouldn't outright call out a 0% chance. I mean, unless you work at Konami or Nintendo with contacts I could never dream of achieving, and know with 100% certainty and without a shadow of a doubt that it will never happen, 0% is a pretty bold statement. I mean, 15%~25% likely is a better guesstimate, imo.

Sorry Cruel, but VGCartz is the least reliable site in the world, it's banned for seious discussion in many parts of the web incluiding neogaf. They have admitted to MAKE UP numbers. If something doesn't come from the NPD or the official statement from a company, it doesn't exist.

Proof: Konami said LoS sold 2 million+ copies. Here it says 770k

Ah, thanks for the pointing that out, I was unaware of it's reliability (though I did feel the LoS sales figures were a bit, slim). Though technically your proof doesn't have a citation to back it up (it's true, but I still believe you and have thus confirmed using different resources).

OK, some revised numbers (hunting down JP sales figures is hard!) LoS sold 95k according to Famitsu's 2011 sales figure (source: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AD%E3%83%A3%E3%83%83%E3%82%B9%E3%83%AB%E3%83%B4%E3%82%A1%E3%83%8B%E3%82%A2_%E3%83%AD%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89_%E3%82%AA%E3%83%96_%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A3%E3%83%89%E3%82%A6 (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AD%E3%83%A3%E3%83%83%E3%82%B9%E3%83%AB%E3%83%B4%E3%82%A1%E3%83%8B%E3%82%A2_%E3%83%AD%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89_%E3%82%AA%E3%83%96_%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A3%E3%83%89%E3%82%A6)) so that .10 million figure is pretty close. Has the game sold more since the 2011 numbers were published? Probably but that's a moot point for now.

For SD Gundam G Generations 3D (ha, found the specific title this time /dork) is cited at 139k or .14 million units. (source: http://nipponsalesage.blogspot.com/2012/07/famitsu-mid-year-top-100.html (http://nipponsalesage.blogspot.com/2012/07/famitsu-mid-year-top-100.html)) which is newer information than was probably available for that VGChartz (which I'm starting to believe doesn't update very often...). And I know Famitsu is definitely considered a reliable source, because mascot.  ;D

So a different of 40k units sold (again LoS could have sold a bunch more in Japan since then but I don't want to dig around anymore for more information) so a MoF special edition 3DS is still plausible, but again with low chances. I also feel like Gundam has a much more substantial market for collector's items than CV to warrant a special edition console, so~ I don't really know. So, same conclusion as last time.

Also, yeah that extra case thing would look kinda...meh. o_O I think I'll stick with my pre-order on Amazon.

That was 2010 it has been two years we can safely assume over 1 million( combined that is) has been sold now if a pc version comes out with a full 60 fps or wii u version then yeah  it can hit an all time high in sales (the series deserves it) also if people buy los 2 or mof and have an xbox/ps3 and have intrest in the first game it would go up even more.

Gundam is a well established franchise in Japan, spanning in multiple media formats. Seriously, it's not even funny to compare. That's why they make PS3, 3DS, etc. special Gundam Editions.

Except as far as my recollection goes there was never a special edition Gundam PS3. Just PSP and 3DS (hand helds). In fact, very few franchises or titles actually generate a special edition of home consoles anymore (with the exception of Halo and Star Wars for the 360 since those are domestic [read: 'Murka!] IPs). More to the point, Konami has worked with Sony to release special editions of PS3s1 (not just bundled) and PSPs2 for a game that is not as popular in Japan as it is in the west3.

So yes, while it is not surprising for special edition Gundam consoles to be released in Japan (I should know, I'm a huge Gundam fan) the point was based on sales, not popularity, which is what marketers and business men tend to base their decisions on. I do get your point that CV and Gundam are definitely two different animals in Japan, and I don't discredit that, but that wasn't my original argument.

And I would also like to think us CV fans are just as collector geared as Gundam fans, especially with the limited love we receive for our franchise.
