Post by: Dengo vlad tepes on December 28, 2012, 02:09:55 PM

Koji igarashi's latest FB post !

when i translated this , it says : Today is my last working!
Become a WH, with a broken cell phone this year, and even the backup hard disk crash bonus (´ Д '), it plans a career change next year. And, together, I think you have my cell phone Mercado, who contacted good (¯ ^ ¯) Isuzu change models so you can contact "  (Translated by Bing)

i became really depressed after i saw this , there are many peoples who hate this guy but this guy made 2 of the best CVs i have ever played "Aria of sorrow and DxC" "he didn't made  SOTN as many peoples think SOTN is my favorite CV game"

anyway it seems we're sharing IGA's last news here ...and i hope its a bad translate from bing , someone verify this translate please

This shouldn't be surprising; it's common knowledge that IGA has passed the CV torch to Dave Cox/MS, and once LoS2 is released, the torch will be passed once again. It's the nature of business. Who's to say IGA wasn't stressed out during his long tenure as CV's producer? He may be in good spirits to start a new chapter in his life, as he & anyone should. But this translation's extremely shoddy so it could mean absolutely anything, or nothing at all.

But keep in mind, no where does it or anyone[Konami] say "IGA will never make/contribute to Castlevania again," it's just that he prolly won't be Castlevania's figurehead as he once was, that's all.

I hope that's not saying what we think. IGA seems to be one of those people you either love or hate, but his potential HAS been illustrated in the past. It will suck if he's really gone.

I have a ton of respect for IGA in the long run. Not everything under his run was perfect, but I think a lot of it wasn't necessarily his fault. He just did what he could given the cards he was dealt. He was putting out games at an extremely fast rate, with probably not a lot of funds to work with, hence a lot of corner cutting and shoddy work. I, personally, blame Konami for stuff like that. If they expect big returns from Castlevania, and for it to be competitive in the market, they need to give proper time and resources to the project. It's smarter business in the long run, I think. What they were doing was shortsighted. However, some of IGA's ideas were bad, like making some of the games bizarrely easy, and switching to that anime style... and Dawn of Sorrow in general.

IGA's managed to make many of my favorite Castlevania games (Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow, Symphony of the Night, Order of Ecclesia), some of which rank high among my favorite games, period. If he is getting out of the game business, that's saddening to me, but I will always remember him fondly.

Someone replied to that post saying "The translation I got said "career change" but he's talking about his broken mobile phone and contacting folks when he gets a new model. I -think- "kyariya" (katakana) is meant to be "carrier", as in, a new phone service provider, not "career". At least I hope that's the case."

So I think it's just a bad translation guys. We need someone who can properly read Japanese. I only know a tiny bit, and it's not enough for me to figure out what that's saying.

Lol there is a lot of difference between a "carrier change" and "career change", such is the nature of automatic translators perhaps. But really I think he was sick to death of Castlevania by the time he left, understandably so considering how long he was attached to it and the rate he had to pump them out at. I disliked some of the things that happened under his tenure (HoD, the timeline business, a few other things) leading the franchise but a lot of that was probably out of his hands and I have nothing against him personally, so as long as he's doing something he likes more power to the guy. I always remember an early interview about Dracula X Chronicles in which he concluded by half-jokingly saying he was just playing the lottery hoping he wouldn't have to work anymore.

IGA: "sorry guys, lost cell phone, but acquired new carrier no worries ^_^"
World: "OMG IGA changes his career! no more games :'( :'("

I believe there's a foreign saying that goes "translator, traitor."
Don't remember the original language though.
(Not saying that Dengo's a "traitor", BTW. Just try not to jump to conclusions next time.)

It's been a while since IGA worked on a CV game. I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to turn the page definitively.

I hope so. Because I would be very depressed if he changes his career, because it  means that there's no  more hope of getting a Metroidvania in the near future.

This I don't understand. Even if IGA would make another game, there's no guarentee it would be a Metroidvania. In fact, I think it's pretty unlikely since he's made so many already. I think he's tired of making the same game over and over and over... Also, there's nothing stopping new producers from making a Metroidvania of their own. So, relax :D

Not to mention, regardless of what Cox says, Mirror of Fate contains almost all the elements of a Metroidvania.

Amusing thread for sure.

To be honest, im kind of indifferent to the idea of IGA making CV games again. While Ive liked many of his CV games, (just because I criticize him doesnt mean I hate him or all his games, just syk) hes made so many already, and while I would be curious to see him try his hand at another classicvania a la Adventure Rebirth, I think it's just plain time for the torch to be passed for the time being. Get some fresh blood. MS, Konami of Europe and Cox are all just a step in the big picture, which is different folks tackling the franchise and giving their own spin on it. Their own take. Bringing in fresh ideas. At least that's what I would hope for.

As for the mistranslation of changing CAREERS, well that would have been a bit more shocking, though given I dont know the man's life or feelings, I couldnt possibly say whether it would be "strange" or "weird". he could have (all theoretical mind you) been unhappy with his job for a long time, and decided he really wanted to try his hand at something else, and we wouldnt really know.

Inafune started criticizing Capcom and the Japanese gaming industry and then  left to form his own Gaming company in a relatively short period of time, all things considered, and yet it seems he was unhappy with his job for far longer than that.

That said, nice to hear it was just a mistranslation.

But boy, one hell of a mistranslation THAT was, lol.
