Title: Metal Gear Rising: Revengence
Post by: Profbeanburrito on January 23, 2013, 02:15:24 PM
Im a huge MGS fan and last night I played the MGR:R demo. I was very skeptical at first, and I still kind of am. I like the original idea of the game being between MGS2 and 4 and showing how Raiden became the ninja.
But anyways, after playing it I became a little more interested, but I still have some doubts.
The game is fun, I like the stealth of Metal Gear better, but it's a fun hack-and-slash, so it gets credit in the fun/ gameplay department.

But here are my concerns:
1 - will it explain why Raiden became a cyborg ninja in the first place ( I'm expecting flashbacks to the Patriots doing this to him)

2 - at the end of MGS4 he is kind of reverted back to a normal human, reunited with Rose and the son he didn't know he had. What happened to all that?

3 - After being reunited with his family, when did Raiden become a cold hearted killing machine and why? In MGS2 he's doing his mission, but he never comes off that way, he still has a heart. And 4 he's pretty ruthless, but you think after meeting your child and seeing your woman again would change that.

So I really hope they touch on all that. It's a very over the top action game, even by MG standards, but I guess that's the point. What does everyone else think?

I'm hoping they touch on those points too. Otherwise that really seems like a wasted chance. =\

At least this title and MGS4 lets people think I'm less weird for liking Raiden since MGS2.  ;D

Initially MGR should have been about exactly this. But now I don't think it will be mentioned.

He wasn't reverted to a human. He was given new human-like body, but technically he was still is a cyborg. Even in MGS'verse it's hard to be revrted to a human, if only human parts you have are head and spinal cord.

Yeah I know, I guess I should have phrased that differently. They really need to explain all this

Also, it looks really silly in the one trailer. He's driving a car in full ninja cyborg get-u. I don't know what to think of this!

I suppose they would explain some things then leave your head scratching over other things... Then they would say wait for the next game.

Hear! Hear! I'm really glad people's perception of Raiden improved after MGS4.

Yeah, I thought Raiden was an interesting character with a unique back story compared to most VG protags.

Also, if I remember correctly with what Big Mama was saying during MGS4...

Though, since I know Kojima is a fan of Kamen Rider, I'd really love to see aspects of Raiden's normal life dealing with being a cyborg. It was an interesting angle seeing Hongo Takeshi cope with being a cyborg during day to day living (knowing full well he will never fully integrate with society again), and I think it would be a pretty sweet nod to show something similar in MGR.

Though I am excited to see Raiden upgrade from a body similar to his MGS4 one to the one in MGR.  ;D

I've been playing a bit of this and I ike it much better than I thought I would, learning the parry system makes this game. I don't see it as it being some legendary classic in the making, but definitely one of the better action games in the last few years.

The Metal Gear Solid Database which is downloadable off the PSN does mention that Raiden's mission to save Sunny nearly got him killed. After all Sunny was held in AREA-51. Apparently Dr. Madnar (The same Madnar that worked under Big Boss in the original two Metal Gear MSX titles) saved Raiden's life. Raidens mentions this in MGS4.

Thats a very resistant old mand then, you needed to use various missiles in Madnar when he tried to strangle Snake from behind.

Never really hated raiden. One of my friends on the other hand Raiden has been his favorite but I cannoot recall if he prefered his mgs2 version over cryborg version me on the other hand I love big boss one of the reason why I believe on the msx2 version of mg solid snake BB looks like Sean Connery

I hated Raiden. Mainly because he just wasn't very cool and I had to play him through majority of MGS2. Along with the stupid conversations he had, and how naive he just was. I still dont' get how he got the mission.

In any case, I still haven't played 4, so I still dont' much like him. Revengeance though, looks fun. So despite not liking Raiden, it shouldn't stop me from trying it. Gameplay trumps all after all.

Wasn't it mentioned that Raiden being generally uncool in MGS2 was pretty much Kojima calling the players Snake-wannabe losers?

Kojima's purpose in creating Raiden was to prevent veteran players of Snake to start from scratch and let snake ask stupid questions on how to go with the mission.
But i would say Kojima was a great troll in showing the gameplay footage of MGS2 with snake as the lead when in fact it is Raiden in game. Though that made quite a number of players pissed with Raiden.
