Yeah, I thought Raiden was an interesting character with a unique back story compared to most VG protags.
Or rather, I don't know of many protags that have a child soldier background (Setsuna F. Seiei did this after the fact ;)) Yeah sure, they he went through the VR training, but how much did it train him versus just hone skills he had already developed during the Liberian Civil War?
Also, if I remember correctly with what Big Mama was saying during MGS4...
That Raiden had been fatally wounded during a mission and the only way to save his life was to turn him into a cyborg. It was in a mission against the Patriots, assigned to Raiden from Big Mama, but I don't remember the Patriots actually turning Raiden into a cyborg...I thought that was Big Mama. It's been since launch that I've played MGS4, and I'm too lazy to research and confirm my memory. I'm hoping we learn more about this particular mission, the extent of the damages done to Raiden, etc.
Though, since I know Kojima is a fan of Kamen Rider, I'd really love to see aspects of Raiden's normal life dealing with being a cyborg. It was an interesting angle seeing Hongo Takeshi cope with being a cyborg during day to day living (knowing full well he will never fully integrate with society again), and I think it would be a pretty sweet nod to show something similar in MGR.
Though I am excited to see Raiden upgrade from a body similar to his MGS4 one to the one in MGR. ;D
