Well yesterday my parents took me to dinner at a BBQ place called Dr. Hogly Wogly's for a late birthday gift
A pic from the site

And well I was like hmmm I want beer and while I have been mostly agains drinking beer I can say that my Heineken tasted all right in fact I have the empty bottle in my hand as I type to commemorate this occasion.
I am not going to get into the habit but I do not think having one every now and then will hurt I am not super crazy about but it was not that bad 8)

Heineken: the gateway beer

Heineken: the gateway beer
yep
-
One of my most favorite beers.
-
I was on reserve duty last week for some good-ol' training in the desert. We organized a team building night and our platoon commander allowed us to bring some beers on the condition that we didn't wouldn't get drunk, lol. What a guy!
-
My first beer was Budweiser.
But my gateway beer was Mack & Jack's. Now I won't drink any beer I can see through unless I'm bowling, and even then I bowl like shit if I can see through my beer. ... Well, I bowl like shit anyway, but can't break 100 on piss beer.
My favorite so far was, um, I think it was Autumn Ale by Sam Adams. I liked their pumpkin ale too, but the Autumn one made me go, "WOW!" I can't remember. It had brown sugar, cinnamon, and something else. It was so good. My favorite dark beer so far is that coffee one by Kona, I think Pipedream or something. If I really want a beer, I'll go to the Scuttlebutt Brewery about a mile from my apartment. Their food is overpriced (the sandwich I had was yummy, though), but their happy hour beer made me feel warm and fuzzy all over. Only time I've ever been there though was to meet Danny Bonaduce (the red-headed kid from The Partridge Family).
My mom and stepdad don't approve of alcohol except in church, but on my birthday he always tells me to order a beer or cocktail if I want. I usually just get one because it's too expensive when we go out.
-
I approve of Heineken but I find Beck's a little better.
-
Beer tastes like water to me, unless it's Red Stripe. I'm a vodka or whiskey kind of guy these days. ;D
-
I'm a lightweight, so it doesn't take me much at all to get annihilated. That being said, I'm not a beer person at all; put a "girly drink" or mixed drink in front of me though & all bets are off. Gimlets, Cosmos, Godiva Chocolate Martinis, Appletinis, White Peach Sangrias, Champagne, Long Island Iced Teas, Margaritas and blush wine are my go-to's to name a few. I'm a social drunk. :3
-
I personally prefer dark beers. But Heineken is ok.
-
Congrats on your first beer!
Mine was a Rainier (TheouAegis should know what I mean...), not exactly my favorite. For me now, I prefer darker beers, though I don't really drink a lot of beer since I think I might have an allergy to hops. And I mean beyond the standard "flush red Asian" allergies, like "ugh, I feel sick after half a bottle..." kind of allergies. I'm decent with Shochu and other harder alcohols...but again, I don't really drink that often in the first place, since I'm usually DD. ;D
-
Heineken's alright. There's nothing bad about it, but not much good either.
I would recommend the following: George Killian's Irish Red, Guinness, and Blue Moon (with slice of orange).

Mine was a Rainier

May it rest in peace. Oh wait, it's can't -- it's a fucking museum piece now!
I find this pic kinda disturbing:

I remember the first time I drove by the T. I'm glad they kept the style at the time, but it was still unnerving. It's like walking past a house every day on your way home from school, then one weekend it burns down, and when you walk past the ruins for the first time the next Monday -- it's kinda like that.
That and they're turning impressionable teen girls into alcoholics now. :D

And then there's this story showing how much Anheuser-Busch sucks compared to our beloved Washington beers!

I'm not much of a beer fan, but DiamondBear beer is pretty great. It's brewed locally here in Arkansas.
I'm more of a rum & Coke guy though, myself.
-
Aw, rum & coke. The only way I can justify drinking at a bar. ... Well, that and the fact that now in Washington it costs $20 for a fifth of the cheap shit, so making a cheap-as-hell Long Island would cost $80 just for the ingredients.

Love that news article! So much local pride welled up in me after that story came out. :P
But I agree, it's totally jarring to no longer see the beloved 'R' when driving into Seattle northbound. =\ Even to this day it throws me off a little. At least when they put the 'T' there it was a little less painful.
Though speaking of local brews, Iron Horse Brewery (in Ellensburg, my college town) has a nice dark beer that I really like, "Irish Death".

Of course I didn't realize I liked darker beers until my mom took myself and my wife (g/f at the time) to the Elyssian by Safeco Field and ordered the beer sampler. I tried them all and determined I liked the Dragontooth Stout the best. Also I was a little tipsy afterward...by like 12:30...with my mom. A little interesting day that was, to say the least...
Moral of the story! Go to your local brewery, order a sampler of their beers and try them all to see what kind of beer you like! ;D

such interesting stuff .
