This is directed at those people who complained about how Kojima gave Simon red hair in her redesign of him. I can't believe I didn't those this before but if you take a look at the Japanese manual for the original NES game you can see Simon has red hair as well. He has brown hair on the cover art for the game but I consider the manual artwork to be closer to the creator's intentions. So Kojima's design is actually very faithful in that regard. :)

I always thought Simon's hair was more Auburn then brown to be honest.
And I like the red hair.

In game his hair's color is brown (Castlevania 1 Nes). In Vampire killer his hair is black. In Simon's Quest it's also black. In "Chronicles PS1" it's purple! May be he just likes to dye his hair in different colors. :)

For simplicities sake, I tend to ignore the hair color used in sprites. I think artwork takes precedence over that anyway, since what looks good in artwork does not always look good sprite-wise. However, that still leaves us with Simon having auburn/brown, blond and red hair. And that's just counting CV1, 2 and Chronicles.

The ones I like are the Simons from SCIV and CvChronicles. :P
Other is the Simon from Haunted Castle. I think is because i love how difficult was that CV (to me).

Anyways... He always gonna be the most powerful Belmont in my opinion. :P

I haven't looked at my Famicom Classics version of the first game in a while but this does sound familiar.
Of course it's not like the characters across the games don't already have bazillions of different hairstyles already.

Dracula: *holds up mirror* And what of you, ginger? Dare you to challenge me, when you, yourself, have no soul? But enough talk, have at you!
Simon is emotionally scared by this revelation and is easily defeated by Dracula. The world remains in darkness for all eternity.

:P I kid, I kid, though seriously, I think fiery red haired Simon is awesome, even if CVIV is my favorite. Definitely excited to see how Simon plays out in MoF with his red hair and beard goodness. ;D

Kojima's haircolor choice for Simon is way too sharp on the red. Like Inccubus had said; Hair-dye red. Not good really. It just doesn't seem to fit his character (and his prettyboy looks don't help either). That and his chronicles' sprite's hair color isn't even red. It's like a candy red going on a faded dark pink...or something.

i figured it out!!!! Don't you see?... his hair turned red due to the amount of vampire blood spilled on it... it progressively gets darker... duh! :rollseyes:

I actually much prefer that slick candy apple red on Simon. Like a gaudy sports car...that slays demons for a living. I'm sure a Ferrari could do that. Somebody get Michael Bay on the phone because all this formula needs is 'SPLOSIONS!

Since Simon is a legendary chrctr in CV, in every game he looks different. It's okay, though. He's like a historical figure that nobody really knows how exactly it looked like.

Actually, yeah. It's shocking and vibrant in a good way. I don't really care that it isn't "realistic" or "gritty" or whatever. I don't really look for conservative realism in Castlevania games. More like vampire slaying stuff that takes historical cues but with a sensational, often Japanese entertainment-infuenced flair to it.

Thank you! I was hoping to find a similar shot with a 458 Italia with sweeping hills in the background (so I can shoop in the Castle) but the best I could really find was this Enzo from Forza. :(

Sure they do. Just not the way Kojima does it as it's more along the anime spectrum then it is in the normal spectrum. Besides, the only person who can pull off such red hair and get away with it is not a man, but a woman; Red Sonja.

I love Kojima's art work, but the red hair for Simon in Chronicles was just weird. The Japanese though have an odd thing of attributing certain personalities to someone's hair, also the blood type. So it could be assumed that the red hair was meant to clue us in on his personality. Also, I don't think it's blue in Haunted Castle but black. It looks bluish because they used that as a light effect. Much how Superman's hair in a lot of the older comics seems to have blue highlights. It's just meant to give shadow and light sourcing to someone with dark hair.
