At the end of Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest we see Dracula's hand come out of the ground. As I haven't played all of the Castlevania games yet I was wondering if any of the games in the series picked up on this plot point.

I don't think that is the canon ending (there are several endings, including one where Simon dies) or at least the rising hand probably isn't. Since the next time we see Dracula chronologically is 50 years later in Harmony of Dissonance with Simon's grandson Juste.

I heard a lawnmower went over it.

The odd thing is that Dracula's hand raises from the grave in the best ending. It would make sense if this happend in the worst ending, because according to the game's story, if Simon were to die due to the curse, Dracula would come back to life. I wonder if it's not just simply a programming error.

I've liked to think that this was the prelude to Super Castlevania IV, since it's similar to that games' prologue. But alas, I know that SCVIV was meant to be a remake though. But anyways, we do know that somehow Dracula's relics somehow sprang back into being after Simon had burned them. This could have been part of the process?

I could be that Dracula's remains came back to life briefly and exploded scattering the "relics" across the countryside. Or, perhaps the body became reanimated briefly and wondered around like a zombie but because Dracula's soul wasn't in it, it collapsed a fell apart somewhere and then 50 years later Maxim found them. Thus, starting the events of Harmony of Dissonance.

And let's not forget his relics show up AGAIN in SotN.

That hand raising happens when the scene changes to night.
It could be the same grave, but many many years later.
