Title: Help me choose my 3ds xl color
Post by: Shiroi Koumori on February 15, 2013, 02:39:07 PM
Well, you guys know that i would be buying a 3ds xl just in time for Mirror of Fate. I am getting a NA 3ds xl to prevent the region lock problem.
I saw both colors at my local game store and i am torn between them. I know the pink one is a limited edition and i love pink too, but i already have a pink/white ds. While i never had a red handheld before and i would love to get one.

So, please just vote and help me decide.

Pink/white because GIRLS.

(Really though, spare me and please don't.)

No blue one? That's what I have and I like it a lot. What I like most is it's a matte finish and the handheld is all black when open.

Get two screen protectors: one for the touch screen and one for the top screen.

I am not joking.

I didn't buy any protectors for my 3DS.. Dust collects under the top screen when it's closed and then every time you close the 3DS the dust cuts into the screen like a diamond saw, utterly ruining the screen. This has been documented on many forums and Q&As, so I know I'm not alone.

For the bottom screen, as anyone with a DS can attest, the styluses suck and are not suited for heavy use because they're a hard, abrasive plastic. My touch screen was pristine... until I played Kid Icarus. From then on it was scratched to shit. A screen protector helped hide a couple of the scratches, but the stylus still scratches up the screen protector too.

Just to clarify, I am looking for a 3ds xl for me, and I am not asking about what you have. hehehe.

Regarding the blue one. I am not fond of blue, so I did not include it. (plus I also have a blue ds)

I know about the screen protectors. :) Thanks for the advice.

Screen protectors are definitely a must. Elite Beat Agents did a number on my DS Lite's touch screen so I knew I had to be protected. Hori all the way.

I guess when deciding which XL to get, I'd think the biggest deciding factor is what color is around the screen. Do you wanna have pink or white outlining the gameplay? Because I think stark black is the way to go. :p

I'll suggest you the red\black, because i like that combination of colors, but since you are a girl, you might like also the pink, but since i'm a boy, i prefer the red one. Also, i would like to ask you, what do you mean by this?

I am buying the US MoF, cause I don't want to scratch my head with the Japanese script.
Well, maybe for Castlevania, the Japanese script isn't that hard, but I am also planning to purchase Rune Factory 4 (if and when it comes out, localization takes time), and that is a game that is hard to play in pure Japanese (I am a dialogue addict).

Yes all versions are region locked, which is a bummer.

As for the colors, I like them both, so it is hard to decide. hehe.

Alright, lemme break down my train of thought after I read this post:

"Huh, Shiroi's getting a 3DS XL. Good for her! I think she'll enjoy it. Let's see...she seems very soft spoken, sweet, feminine-I'm gonna vote for pink. Oh, wait-she says she already has a pink one. That's what made me decide to get a blue one when I purchased mine-my little darling pink DS. Man, that bubblegum pink is adorable though! I felt somehow cuter & more ladylike just holding the darn thing. She seems to already have that going for her though, not a little rough around the edges like me. If it were for me personally, I'd go with the pink again, but this is hers. Hmm...I could see her in red too though the more I think about it actually. It'd be something new & bold for her & she's already said she likes it. Black borders are a smidge easier on the eyes too like Abnormal Freak said. Uuuugggghhhhh...tough call. Okay, okay, final decision-red. It'll be new, bold & fresh to her, easy on the eyes & red can easily be gender neutral. Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I could see her with it. Red!" *click*

Enjoy my lady perspective.

I think black would be nice. 'Black', like 'White' encompasses the entire color spectrum so you really can't go wrong there.

Ooohhh... Laina, Thanks for the female intuition. :)

I'll still check on the voting from time to time until I buy my handheld sometime before March 5.

Hmm go for a color you do not have and from what I understand you already have a pink one so go for red but if you did not have a pink ds I would 100 percent encourage you to get a pink one and not because your a girl it's because pink is an awesome color in most cases. Let me tell ya I look damn good in pink.   :)

but wait go for the fire emblem 3ds special edition but you do not want a 3ds do you? Just the xl.

You forget a shield for the 3ds it's self not sure about the xl but it's a manget for finger prints which piss me off till no end I saw some fe special editions ruined by finger prints I'm like

Darth Vader NO! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s#)

so yeah 100% agree I did this while buying my 3ds zelda edition like hell this is getting ruined.

Thanks for the advice. So red is winning. ehehhe.

Really? it is a fingerprint magnet!?! Oh boy.... I suppose my numerous eyeglass cleaner cloths can do the job too.

Unlike the regular 3DS, the XL has a matte finish so you don't have to worry about fingerprints.

That's one thing I hated about the regular 3DS and the Wii Classic Controller Pro. Glossy surfaces should not be used on something you're going to handle frequently.

Oh i see. Thanks for the clarification.
